Dallas: The Movie?
J.R. Ewing could be coming to the big screen.

October 10, 2002 - From the believe it or not file, comes this news nugget from today's Daily Variety. Nostalgia-crazed Hollywood is getting set to bring everyone's favorite evil oilman, J.R. Ewing, to the big screen! According to the trade, Fox-based Regency Enterprises has just worked out a million-dollar deal to turn the classic primetime soap Dallas into a feature film.

The current plan is to have all new actors playing the familiar Dallas characters. Series creator David Jacobs said, "I like the idea of doing it for the 21st century, with a new cast. We've got a new take on it. It's a much bigger canvas today and it belongs up on the big screen. Before people would have been interested in who is screwing each other. Now it's the national crimes that are affecting everyone. The conflict is still about family conflicts, but the stakes are higher now. That's the thing that excites me about it."

Former Sony exec Michael Costigan (Charlie's Angels) will produce the film along with Jacobs. He adds, "So few of the great TV titles actually have a good enough story to work as a stand alone movie. I believe Dallas is the jewel in the crown."

You can expect Bobby and Pam, Jock and Miss Ellie, Lucy and Ray, Sue Ellen and Cliff Barnes and, of course, J.R., to all figure into the story. And the film, like the series, will be set at Southfork Ranch.

Jacobs added that the film will have "new themes" and a new "storyline," but that it will "retain the spirit" of the series.

It'll be interesting to watch this one cast up. Stay tuned.

If they do make a movie based on the Dallas tv show it will probably be as bad as the Charlies Angles movie that is now on HBO. I can't even watch the movie it is that bad and the acting is even worse.
But that's just my opinion

I'm not sure why Hollywood is taking all the old TV shows to the big screen. There is something to be said for originality... Ooops, I forgot, it's all about the $$$.

I think Dallas might be a good movie, sometimes they get it right (I really liked Charlie's Angels).

I enjoyed the show DALLAS very much when it was on tv..but I can't see making a movie about it. A big part of Dallas' success were the actors/actresses who played those characters. I would like to remember those characters as they were played then.
