View Full Version : Who Is The Spookier Slasher?
Iluvthe80s 10-31-02, 06:22 AM I was thinking about this while watching "Friday The 13th: Part 3" last night. Of the two, who do you think is the more scarier and spookier slasher?
My favorite is Michael Myers. I'm a big fan of the "Halloween" movies (especially the first two).
80sTrivia 10-31-02, 06:47 AM I voted for Halloween's Michael Myers. Jason from the Friday the 13th movies never scared me. The original Halloween movie, however, did scare me the first time I saw it as a kid!!! :bigeek:
Roemello 10-31-02, 12:57 PM Out of those two, I'd have to say Michael Myers. Jason was kinda creepy, but Myers..especially the in the original....:vibrator::lol::p
Rhelawen 10-31-02, 02:33 PM Michael Myers, definitely. :scared:
I found Michael Myers very unspooky for some reason. I'm going for Jason.
Darkside 11-02-02, 07:52 PM I voted for Michael Myers. I always found most of the Friday The 13ths boring except for maybe the first two.
I was always able to laugh through the Jason movies, but Michael Myers always creeped me out.
In this first Jason thriller which I thought was done actually very well we see a good story line that consists of teenagers getting away for the summer at a local lake site where they will have fun and swim and even fool around...or so they thought. In the beginning of this film we see everyone gathered around singing and having a great time two of the teens sneak away into a loft above and start messing around if you know what I mean. All of a sudden they are approached by this certain someone and with no mercy they are slashed and killed and everyone is asking themselves the ever most popular question...Who did it?
At first we think its a crazed maniac but as the story progresses toward the end of the film a woman gets out of her truck and approaches one of the teenagers who is running from who we think is Jason. She starts telling the story of how that day was her son's birthday and how he got killed in that lake years back. He drowned while the camp teacher were doing their own thing. This is correct...the killer in this entire flick was Jason's mother! What a way to fool the audience who is closely watching to figure out who can be doing this and at the end we find who the actual killer was.
The weak point to this film and all its sequels was repetitiveness. It is the same story line over and over and over again. Same scenario different day with a whole new group of teenagers. it wore thin I think after the third sequel. This first film was a classic in its own right because it was really the first film with that particular story line but here is the exact problem with horror sequels is that it is the same plot but with different people and a different killer at times.
The music itself has gone down in history as a classic theme of horror films next to Freddy's and Michael's themes. If you think about the theme right now, how does it make you feel? Well I would think if anyone as an open imagination they would feel the music is morbid and cold blooded. It is the type of music you would not want to listen to walking down a deserted, cold, long street in the middle of the night. A musical piece is a great tool to have in a film because it often tells the films genre in this case horror. It gives a twisting feeling to the viewer in the sense of what is going to happen when the music starts playing which has the audience watch for more and hang on to their seats with hands over face so to speak.
The characters in the movie are good you know. By comparison to today's horror flicks we can certainly see the difference. It was a simple story line to do hence the actors had simple lines and parts. It is not like a comedy which are incredibly difficult to do. We see a familiar face in the first film...Kevin Bacon in his younger days. I think he did an excellent job for back in those days. One of his earlier films where he gets a knife coming through the back of his neck out his throat which I thought was extraordinary. Incredible special effect! The rest of the actors I think did a good job overall with the acting and the way they expressed the fear of this killer when they started to find all the bodies showing up. Way to go!
So when I think of Friday the 13th I think of a classic film which I think is excellent. I also think of a hockey mask for some reason. I do not know why that is :) Of course we all know what the hockey mask signifies in this film and all the others. It is the killer's trademark if you will. This is how the killer is recognized and known as. Without it it could have been anyone. The hockey mask itself makes Jason look demented and terrifying.
Overall this is an excellent film to watch if you want to re live the classic 80's of horror flicks. Jason is a classic character all together. We see him in a lot of places even today. We can still buy the videos of course and also back in 1999 Matchbox came out with a character car collection celebrating television and the movies and you guessed Jason was one of them. So be sure to take a look around the next time you take a camping trip with a lake that looks too good:)
True Rebel 11-17-02, 11:00 PM Gotta go with Myers. Jason just never hit that "I'm-a-killer-psycho" high fer me. ;)
Shortie Blonde 11-18-02, 05:40 AM I'm not much of a horror movie person. :p
angeleyes25 6-15-03, 12:51 PM Their both real spooky but I voted for Jason.Michael Myers never really gave me as many nightmares as Jason did.
andiegirl 6-17-03, 08:10 PM Michael. Definitely Michael. Halloween 1 is still one of my all time fav horror flics.
Blitzburgh87 6-17-03, 08:56 PM M.Myers
Mike Myers wins cleaver down
though similar in costume
and move as if they were both battery operated
the white sheet technique did for me
Ugly Kid Jeff72 6-18-03, 10:26 AM JASON!!! If he wasn't creepy, the surroundings ya found him in were. Myers, just a human psycho. Jason, immortal psycho.
whistledog 9-10-04, 12:19 AM always thought those 'Halloween' movies were kind of frightening
sweettarts75 11-02-04, 09:17 AM I went with Jason he always scared me.
Me this saturday - kinda underlines my vote :-) (http://www.sitecenter.dk/nitusfc/nss-folder/scrapbog/Jason%20strikes.jpg)
stlkev70 11-02-04, 12:35 PM Mike Myers, just because Punky said that I remind her of him!http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/eyebrows.gif http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/eyebrows.gif http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/eyebrows.gif http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/eyebrows.gif
this charming man 11-02-04, 06:14 PM I had to vote Michael Myers as I have never seen a Friday 13th film.
I learnt recently that when they made Halloween, they couldn't afford to make a mask. So they used a William Shatner face mask and melted it with a blow torch.
I think that fact alone makes the film scarier lol.
galaga-girl 11-02-04, 11:41 PM Jason always gave me the heeby-jeebies
Tanya1976 11-12-04, 12:35 PM Michael was creepy in the first two Halloween movies. Then, he became a joke. Jason got my vote, though.
80's fanatic 4-23-05, 12:05 AM I picked Jason myself. I'm not all that familier with the Halloween trilogies, but I watched the Friday the 13th trilogies and loved them.
Myers, just a human psycho. Jason, immortal psycho.
I gotta disagree there Jeff! Mike Myers, If truly "Human Psycho" wouldn't have survived as long as he did. I think there is as much, if not more "Immortal-ness" to Myers.
jaineytroll 4-23-05, 03:30 AM Jason gets my vote. I watched Friday the 13th when I was younger and the memories are still with me. I didn't watch Holloween until a couple of years ago so although I am sure I would have been freaked out it wasn't the same as if I had watched it when I was a kid. :thumb:
Darkhaven 4-23-05, 04:12 PM I'm going Myers, 'cause Jason Voorhees has always struck me as the stupidest of the slashers. Chucky could waste his ass, and that's a Cabbage Patch Voodoo Doll! Jason X speaks for itself.
I found Michael Myers very unspooky for some reason. I'm going for Jason.
Same here. Michael Myers just never scared me.
