Several big singers and groups of the 80's were also popular in other decades, anyone want to give an opinion on the following saying in which decade they were most instrumental

Madonna- I'd say the 80's

U2- my guess is the 90's

Elton John- I think he was at his best in the 70's,

Genesis- 70's were when they were making thier mark, but 80's produced both Genesis and Invisable touch , as well as phil collins singing

Red hot chilli Peppers- i think their big time was the 90's

Whitney Houston- I'd say the 80's

anyone one to argue with me, I could be wrong I usually am:)

Elton John is a tough one...70's, 80's,90's, and today!

The same with Phil Collins / Genesis.

I have never really cared for the Red Hot Chili Peppers but on all the others, I have to agree with you. Great thread.

I agree with most of them. U2 really made a mark in the 80's as well. I believe "The Joshua Tree" has been their biggest selling album to date (I might be wrong).

Elton John had great hits in the 80s as well, but you are probably right that his '70s stuff has made more of a mark.

I think you are right on most of them Cal, but I would also have to question Elton John and Genesis. In New Zealand Elton seemed to have hits in the charts throughout the 80s. He was just always there! Most of Genesis best songs seem to have come from the 80s as well.

Madonna was churning out top 10 hit after top 10 hit in the 80's, she's still chugging them out in the 90's and today, and will no doubt be No.1 in the UK this Sunday with "Die Another Day" - which is starting to grow on me - I'm a fan of James Bond Themes as you know, "For Your Eyes Only" being my fave.
