View Full Version : Yaz - "Don't Go" JS 10-20-02, 08:01 PM A few hours ago--via Absolutely '80s--I heard Yaz' "Don't Go," for the first time ever. Timbo 10-21-02, 03:26 AM And it's a top song, isn't it? Yea, being British, I did know about the name change, because of some blues singer!!! What was Yaz's original name? djdaffy1227 10-21-02, 10:22 AM Yazoo. Their lead singer was Alison Moyet who had the top 40 hit "Invisible" which BTW, is one of 80strivia's favorite female singers. jen* 10-21-02, 11:06 AM I wondered why the name change. Does anyone know the whole story? 80sTrivia 10-21-02, 12:55 PM I think they had to change their name here in the States because there was another group in this country with the name Yazoo. Sort of like when Wham! first came out, they went by Wham! UK in the States. :) JS 10-21-02, 07:10 PM Originally posted by djdaffy1227 Yazoo. I never knew. sarasunshine 11-06-02, 02:51 AM Yeah, if you have one of their CDs and you load into your computer their original name, Yazoo, comes up. I think their album Upstairs at Eric's is one of the best albums from the 80's which, btw, is the album that "don't go" is on. There is also a song called "Goodbye Seventies" on there that would be a good 80's theme song. :D NewRomantic 11-06-02, 06:29 AM There is also a city in the US called Yazoo, is there not? In Texas? And this coming from a bloody Australian!!! There is a terriffic 12" mix (yes an '80's one!) on a German compilation album called "Pop and Wave the best of the 12" Mixes" I can't find it at this moment to give you the catalogue no, but if you are interested, let me know. It appears in the original form on the album, "Upstairs At Eric's". If you like very early Depeche Mode, you'll love this. Vince Clarke, the fellow who wrote the DM track, "Just Can't Get Enough", among others, and who was in DM, split from DM to form Yazoo. The music is very similar. In fact the drum pattern on another Yazoo, sorry, Yaz, to you (!) sounds errily similar to the one used on Just Can't Get Enough... Well, the "beats" sounds the same even if the pattern is slightly different. Let me know if you are interested in this German compilation. It also features, Relax - Frankie Goes To Hollywood; Real Gone Kid - Deacon Blue; The Wild Boys - Duran Duran and more... |
