Speaking of Nena's best known hit, could someone help clarify something that is confusing me a bit? Based on my observations, there appears to be four different recordings of the same song, with the following titles.

99 Luftballons (German)
99 Luftballons (English)
99 Red Balloons (German)
99 Red Balloons (English)

The only one of those I have in my music collection is the German 99 Luftballons. "Weird Al" Yankovic used a sample of the German 99 Red Balloons for his "Hooked on Polkas" song, and that sounds very much the same to me. Are those four different songs I just listed, or are they really just two in which they go by two different titles? Thanks.

Strictly said, there are only two versions apart from the 2002 reworks/remixes - the German one (99 Luftballons) and the English one (99 Red Balloons) which features different lyrics - the music is the same.

I've heard both the English- and German-language versions--but no remixes--of "99 Luftballoons"/"99 Red Balloons."

Don't forget the 12"! The one from the 80s, not 2002. I have the English one but I don't know if there's a German one.

I don't want to sound ignorant, but I thought they were the same lyrics just different languages.

I don't want to sound like a smart ass, but they are different...just a little bit, admittedly. :D

Basically, the subject is the same.
