View Full Version : Another school shooting
Well.. another school shooting this morning.. just moments ago :(
in Maryland... school is still open... just no recess..
For those who haven't seen the news yet (it will be on all day, I'm sure)... a mother was dropping her boy off at school and he was shot twice, once in the chest and once in the abdomen.
He is in critical condition... that's all we know about him right now.
No other shots have been fired and the shooter has not been found.
They are speculating that it may be the same shooter involved in last week's shooting.
 I can't believe this is happening again. I just can't stand this!!!
You scared me for a minute Tina, I thought it was another Columbine...
This is sad enough though.
Prefab Sprouter 10-07-02, 09:54 AM This is terrible news indeed!
How do these kids get access to weapons???
bigcozy 10-07-02, 10:43 AM It's not a kid, odds are it is the same guy that has been shooting for a couple of days. If he is willing to keep exposing himself, they will catch him before long. I would be willing to bet that they will have to kill him, he probably wants a big fight and to die. Probably a white male, employed, never been in trouble before.
The press keeps saying some things that are wrong. They say it is a "high powered" rifle, it isn't. A .223 (5.56mm NATO) is one of the lowest powered rifles there are, that is not to say that it isn't deadly, it is. It shoots a bullet about the size of a sharpened pencil lead, but it is the speed that makes it effective (3400fps). More than likely this a semi automatic rifle with a scope. The .223 is both a commercial and military round, there are over 30 guns chambered in this caliber. It is possible this guy may be ex military, the US usues the .223 in the AR15/M16/M4/M249.
They also say the guy is an expert marksman. Anybody with 10 minutes and an instructor can master a rifle, not that hard. Drive up, take a rest across the door with rifle, shoot some unarmed person that doesn't expect it........how hard is that? He is animal not an expert.
The little boy's size probably helped him. If he was shot with the .223, the bullet probably zipped through him, although I am sure the wounds are devastating.
I had a distant relative killed in a school shooting some time ago, and my parents are both retired teachers. My father was telling me that school shootings get a lot more press now, but that there are actually much fewer of them now than there have ever been. Still hits home though.
This is really getting scary. I hope they catch that !@$#$&@ soon. Several of my college friends are from the Montgomery County area, but they've all moved out of town; so far all their families are OK.
{{hugs}} to all the DC-area Xchangers!
This is all happening practically right next door to me. I can't tell you how terrifying it is to be afraid to go out to the store even.:(

The news has been saying that that's not necessarily the profile that he's an expert marksman anymore because of the accuracy of the scopes available. They say he could shoot accurately from a great distance away.
All these shootings have been happening in crowded places--how can someone not be able to tell where it's coming from or see who did it?

That is what I thought as well. These are terrible times we are living in. You can't seem to be safe anywhere anymore.
Glenn Gulia 10-07-02, 09:30 PM Well i'm sorry to say i live in Rockville about 2 miles away from where this clown shot and killed 2 people. This butthead has now shot 8 people,6 have died. It's kinda like 9/11 again around here(only a few miles from D.C.) everybody is on edge. Now we have to worry about the kids going to school.I hope the police nail his ass soon.
Why would they not cancel school?!?! These kids are walking targets for this maniac! I wouldn't send my kid until this person is caught. It's not enough to have security cameras and metal detectors, now we need security guards to search high and low just to get the kids in the door? Prisoners are safer than our babies, for crying out loud!
Why doesn't this jackass go shoot up a prison or a crack house? Is there not enough press coverage for that? Does the price on the book/movie deal go down if you flush the shit no one cares about instead?

Keep in mind when shots are being fired, people's normal reaction is to run and duck. There is chaos and confusion going on and no one cares who is shooting, what he or she looks like or why they are doing the shooting, all that matters is that they find a way to get out of the line of fire. This ofcourse works to the shooters advantage, as people are too busy runnning or ducking to look at who the suspect is.
I wouldn't call this a "school shooting" though in the way many are used to the term, i.e. some stupid kid who goes on a rampage, and lets now blame all these kids for being so evil and endlessly talk about horrilbe all these kids today are. This incident appears to be a crazy guy who isn't a kid or a student and for whatever reason decided to go on a killing spree. For a change, these kids may actually be free of blame for a school shooting.
I spoke with a friend of mine who lives in D.C. and he says it is pretty strange around there right now. Doesn't have his kids in school and he says that he is constantly looking at the other people around him. I just don't know what would drive a person (or persons) to do something like this.
Tydestra 10-08-02, 04:38 AM This absolutely reeks, but looking at the pattern in this cases, this serial killer (that is basically who it is) is targeting people who least expect it. I was watching CNN when some serial expect was saying that he or she (cause it can be a women) is trying to show the soft spots we have or something.
And the person really isn't a expect shooter... the 1st for shootings where done from a 10 mile radar. The women shot in the head while reading on a bench was within a 5 mile span. It just really, really reeks. I hope they catch this person soon, cause thou, I'm anti-death penality, in cases like this, I can see what the pro-death people talk about.
As for witnesses, all of these attacks, sans the child at school were done in non busy areas and in non busy times of day. A shot ringing out sends everyone running from cover, its our human reaction

Exactly, abcmd! I live in Maryland too, and it is pretty scary. I live in Baltimore County, and I am hoping that they aren't coming up this way. Bowie is a lot closer than Montgomery County. :yikes:
Let's hope that they find them abcmd and don't go anywhere else.
