In case any of you downloaded this song from the "Featured Artists" section, and since I wrote these lyrics, I'll post them for anyone who's interested....
_____________________________________________

DARKEST HOUR

I lost the battle for my soul
Condemned to walk this world alone
A shadow of what I have been
And now I pay the price for all my sins

Now when it's dawn, I must hide my face
I've passed beyond the other side

I curse the sun, I curse the light
My only comfort is the veil of night
The answers that I need to know
What have I done? What have I become?

Now when it's dawn, I must hide my face
I've passed beyond the other.....
Now the hunger burns in me
Fills my heart with endless horror
Damned for all eternity....

Ok, I'm probably totally way off but I think it means that you have done something (obviously bad) and that now you are hiding even though you want to do it again.

The Gothic little freak in me.. .says Vampire poem! Something that some vampire w/ a soul would write.

Other than that... you've noticing how much you're changed and you're shocked or scared...

I can do a better reading on it... but its 10:38 am, my brain is still sleeping /ubb/smilies/00sleepy.gif

Give the prize to Ty!!! Good work kid! I have some other lyrics that are not Livesay songs....let me know if you guys want to read them. They get a little deep. I don't write love songs often, except the one I wrote and recorded for my wife & I to use at our wedding for our first dance. I mostly tell tales or try to describe something in a manner that you wouldn't think of. I'll post the wedding song too if you like.

I wrote this about a guy I used to pass each day on the way to work....what I thought his life was like....

SNAKEYES

HE LOVES THE NEW YORK TIMES
ALTHOUGH THE NEWS IS OLD
IT MAKES A PERFECT BLANKET
COMFORT FROM THE BITTER COLD
THE CARDBOARD BOX THAT HE CALLS HOME
IS TORN AND STAINED
FATE HAS ROBBED HIM OF HIS SOUL
AND WHISKEY EATS AWAY HIS BRAIN

HE USED TO HAVE IT ALL
HE USED TO BE A MAN
NOW HE WALKS THE STREETS
BAREFOOT WITH FILTHY HANDS
A WEALTHY CORPORATE BUSINESSMAN
WHO ONE TIME HAD THE CLOUT
TILL NASTY RUMORS DID HIM IN
CHEWED HIM UP AND SPIT HIM OUT

SNAKEYES - LADY LUCK HAS TURNED HER BACK ON HIM
SNAKEYES - HOPELESSNESS HIS ONLY FRIEND
HE CRIES - THE TEARS ARE FROZEN ON HIS FACE
SNAKEYES - ALL HE WANTS IS FOR THE PAIN TO END

HIS WIFE ABANDONED HIM
WHEN HE BEGAN TO FALL
SHE'S GONE ELEVEN YEARS
HER FACE HE CAN'T RECALL
IF SHE HAD STAYED TO HELP HIM THROUGH
HE MIGHT HAVE TURNED THE TIDE
INSTEAD SHE RAN FOR HIGHER GROUND
TAKING WITH HER ALL HIS PRIDE

THE STREETS ARE SILENT NOW
THE CROWDS HAVE ALL GONE HOME
HE CURLS UP IN AN ALLEY
CONTENT TO BE ALONE
THE VERY LAST THOUGHT ON HIS MIND
IS OF HIS LIFE'S MISTAKES
AND THEN HIS EYES ARE CLOSED IN SLEEP
FROM WHICH HE NEVER WILL AWAKE

NOBODY'S FOOL

JUST A PUPPET ON A STRING,
AN AMUSEMENT FOR THE KING
NOBLE LORDS AND LADIES LAUGH
AS THEY WATCH ME DANCE AND SING
TO PLAY THE JESTER'S ROLE
TOOK MY DIGNITY AND SOUL
A TARGET OF THEIR RIDICULE,
A FUNNY LITTLE TROLL

HIS HIGHNESS STARTS TO LAUGH,
AND IT TEARS MY HEART IN HALF
FUELING MY DESIRE TO WRITE HIS ROYAL EPITAPH
HE SITS UPON HIS THRONE,
AND THOUGH POWER IS HIS ALONE
ONE LOOK BENEATH THE MAJESTY,
HE'S ONLY FLESH AND BONE

BUT LITTLE DO THEY KNOW
OF ALL THE RAGE I HAVE INSIDE
BOILING UP FROM ALL THESE YEARS
OF SWALLOWING MY PRIDE

WEARY IS THE MAN
WHO WEARS THE CROWN UPON HIS HEAD
WHAT HE DOESN'T KNOW CAN'T HURT HIM,
BUT CAN SURELY STRIKE HIM DEAD
IN HIS COURT I'M CALLED THE FOOL,
FOR HIS LAUGHTER I'M A WHORE
THERE'LL BE BLOODSTAINS ON HIS BEDSHEETS, AND I'LL BE A FOOL NO MORE

A CALCULATED SCHEME
TO FULLFILL HER WILDEST DREAM
I LOOK INTO HER EYES AND SEE
A WICKED, EVIL GLEAM
"DO THIS," SHE IMPLORES,
"AND MY LOVE, I WILL BE YOURS"
I'M SENT TO DO HER BIDDING,
THE UNHOLIEST OF CHORES

SO IN THE DARK I STAND,
HIS BLOOD IS ON MY HANDS
A DAGGER BURIED IN THE HEART
OF THE RULER OF THE LAND
SILENTLY I LEAVE,
PEOPLE HEAR BUT CAN'T BELIEVE
A KINGDOM'S HEART BREAKS WITH THE DAWN
AND QUICKLY STARTS TO GRIEVE

PHONEY TEARS RUN DOWN THE FACE
OF ONE HE CALLED HIS WIFE
“WHAT HE DIDN'T KNOW”
WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO TAKE HIS LIFE
NEVER WILL I DANCE AGAIN
UPON THAT ROYAL FLOOR
FOR THE KING IS BURIED ON THIS DAY,
AND I'M NOBODY'S FOOL ANYMORE

Well, I'd love to see your stuff make it into music. That would be really cool. They should make good songs because they make so much sense. I love it when music has a meaning, and not just a sound...

My stuff is lyrics... I write a lot of things for Freestyle Dance type music, but the three that I've written here are meant to be screamed with an extreme power and violence. Something along the lines of Chuck Schuldiner's vocals in the band, "Death"... I usually write with a feeling in mind that violence should be destroyed with a violence beyond all comprehension. Where a person would give up his right to go to Heaven in order to abolish "hurt on Earth" in a way that Heaven could never accept...

If you guys would be interested in hearing this, let me know and I'll see if Sal would put it in the "Featured Artist" section. I just found a CD from an old band I had together with myself and my best bud (and vocalist of Livesay) Anthony's 80's metal tribute band "Strange Behavior". It's a demo we made of us doing Motley Crue's "Kickstart My Heart", RATT's "Round & Round", and Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive". We were together in 1998, and played everything from Iron Maiden to Poison. Unfortunately, one of our two guitarists quit, and before we were able to replace him Anthony got the gig with Livesay and then dragged me into the family. Hmmm...I guess you could say then that it really wasn't unfortunate after all! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif Anyway, let me know if there'd be any interest in hearing the songs...

Peace,

This one was recorded by my old band TRIAL BY FIRE. Anyone ever read the comic book or see the movie "The Punisher"? That's what this song is about, but I couldn't use any names because Marvel comics wouldn't let me!!! I had called before we went in to record it, and had to do a massive change to the lyric to get out all the references to the character. However, if you're familiar with him you'll see it in the lyric. If not...a brief description. Frank Castle was a man whose family was gunned down by gangsters while they were having an outing in the park. The stumbled across a mob hit, and the gangsters wanted no witnesses. Frank survived, and spends the rest of his life waging a war on organized crime. His catch phrase in the comic is "The Guilty Must Be Punished". Anyway....here's the lyric....

-----------------
WRONG PLACE, WRONG TIME

All alone, he sits in darkness
Memories won't let go of his mind
Visions of his wife and children...
Wrong place, wrong time!

Silently he swears a vow
He will punish them somehow
Don's his gear, goes out the door
Now it's time to go to war....

All too familiar is the scene
His bloodshot eyes drink in the light
No one sees him from below
He's learned to blend into the night

A loaded weapon in each hand
High explosives on his belt
Their deaths will be the payment for
The haunting pain that he has felt

He's contemplating his attack
Fifteen heads crowd in the room
His blood is boiling as he waits
He cannot make his move too soon

He breaks through the skylight, the battle's begun
Opening fire, the criminals scatter like rats on the run

Bullets pierce flesh as their cries fill the air
He feels a rush just to know that he's killing
The beast in its lair

Payback for his family
Wrong Place, Wrong Time!
The guilty will be punished
The guilty must die

He stares down at his smoking guns
Feeling they're his only friends
And as he hears the sirens wail
He knows his war will never end

I'm not surprised that Pagan is top notch at writing songs, for everyone knows that bass players are the most important, intelligent & talented people in a group - look at Stevo in Iron Maiden, he's responsible for most of the lyrics, and look at their success!. All i can say is bass players rule! they are superior beings! (I'm sure Taz is going to make a comment about this any minute now :p)

Well Retro, you're right.. I'm gonna comment.
...and I'm gonna say... Bass players do rule but they aren't superior. Let's not forget that some drummers & percussionist also can be great songwriters.

I see it as both Bassist and Drummers need each other to groove & rock. Without one or another... it would be boring

WHEN DREAMS DIE

She walks home every morning, down 33rd and 10th
A long night on her back, so she can pay the rent
She used to be a dancer, a future ballet star
Fate had a different answer, can't believe she fell this far

chorus:
When dreams die
When hope turns to despair
There is nothing to compare
To all the unheard prayers
When dreams die
Your life becomes a haze
You sleepwalk through the days
Like a rat lost in a maze
When dreams die
When dreams die
No pain cuts as deeply as
When dreams die

He loves the Wall Street Journal, although the news is old
It makes a perfect blanket, protects him from the cold
He was a Wall Street broker, who one time had the clout
Fate dealt him the joker, chewed him up and spit him out

(repeat chorus)

He stands there washing dishes, a net holds back his hair
He hears them cheering for him, back when they used to care
Touchdowns were all that mattered, they loved to watch him run
But now his knees are shattered, his dreams have come undone

(repeat chorus)

Pagan, Those are very powerful lyrics, awesome writing. It's like looking into three peoples lives from what they dreamed of doing in an earlier time of their lives and what life as dealt them in the present. I would love to hear the music that accompanies those lyrics. Absolutely love the lyrics.

Pagan
2-18-02, 10:02 PM
Thanx people....you're quite right Sarg. I saw a hooker walking home one morning, and the sight triggered the lyric. Originally it was going to be sort of a love song and include a first person view of how it wouldn't matter if my dreams died. Something like:

I have my family, I have my friends
To cushion the fall when this wild ride ends

However, I thought it would be better to leave as is. You may hear the music soon. It may end up being one of the new tunes on the next CD. Definitely a power ballad.

I'm working on another one that my keyboardist tipped me to. There's a building in India called the Tower Of Silence, that people of all castes are laid to rest in. The top of the building is open, and the sun decays all the flesh and turns the bones to dust, which falls into a pit below. That way, all are as one in death. Pretty powerful image. I'm working on it now....should have it done in a week or two.

Thank you for the compliments, Stacy & Trix... :)

This one is basically an old song I wrote that I completely rewrote, keeping the same topic. It's about giving the emotion of fear a personality.
________________________________________
FEAR

Since time began you know
I've taken many forms
Lurking in the hallways of your soul
I've been called many names
And answered to them all
I'm the one who plays the villian's role

I am the monster
That you hid from as a child
Imaginary demon
That makes you heart run wild
I'm the rotting attic stair
That makes an eerie sound
In the night I hear your cries resound

You look around
But you will never see my face
Even though I'm everywhere you see
Every sound comes from my mouth
Every shadow I displace
You'll learn there's no escape from me

I make you nervous
When you walk a lonely road
Your heart is racing
As the sweat begins to flow
Your skin begins to crawl
You turn and try to run
My twisted game has now begun

chorus:
I am the nightmare
Terror unknown
The shiver running down your spine
The instigator
When you're alone
It won't be long until you're mine

You beg for mercy
I'm immune to all your pleas
As I invade your every dream
I will remind you of
Your own mortality
My pleasure lies within your screams

I feel the tension
As you lie awake at night
A downward spiral
As you pray for morning's light
I will return to you
Of that you can be sure
We'll play my wicked game once more

I may have posted this already, but now that it's being recorded....

There's one more song being lyrically written by my singer.

This one is about the Salem Witch Trials. (Ty should love this!)
________________________________________

THE BURNING TIMES

It began with a vicious lie
Madness swept through the winter sky
Pointing an icy finger
At those they thought should die

"The devil lives within," they'd say
Shackled and bound, they were led away
Caged with no hope for justice
Their sanity decayed

pre-chorus:
And the gallows claimed their prize
The blood of the innocent
And the hate spread like pollution
Andthe tears fell from their eyes
One by one they died
There would be no absolution

Panic ruled the village court
Casting a shadow on Salem's port
Fanning the flames of anger
And stretching patience taut

Justice served to suit their needs
Convicted of evil deeds
They're sacrificial lambs for
The pious wolves to feed

chorus:
The Trials
Misunderstood
They suffered through the Burning Times
Denial
Their faith held strong
Their souls lost to the Burning Times

So to the wolves they all were thrown
Seeds of ignorance had been sown
Till one day the finger turned and
Accused one of their own

All at once they began to hear
Cries that once fell on deafened ears
Now they gave in to reason
And stopped the reign of fear

Like I told you in my PM, I love this song Alan, every time I read these lyrics it sends a chill up my spine, I think you've done more then just give "fear" a persona  thanks for posting it too :) I look forward to reading more.

That was very good, Pagan. I just had a discussion with someone about the lack of energy in lyrics nowadays. It is nice to see that the good lyrics is out there, if you know where to look.

Thank you for sharing with us.

But you will never see my face

Every shadow I displace
You'll learn there's no escape from me

Your heart is racing
As the sweat begins to flow
Your skin begins to crawl
You turn and try to run
My twisted game has now begun

Great lyrics! It is true that lyrics of lots of today's songs lack energy or imagination for that matter. There needs to be more Pagans in this world. ;)

You make Fear sound more scarey that what it should be. But good writing none the less.

That is very dark and heavy, Pagan. I am not sure I like it.

I do love your lyrical talent. Very well written.

Awesome:thumb:, just awesome and it reminds of a little something I wrote not too long ago:

Can't remember the title...

Go and huddle you all in fear
Call the arms and chase us out
Your foolish lies, your illogical ideas.
"Burn the Witches" you tell your sons and daughters while they sleep linking the past to the future
Passing on your ignorance

For all your ill wishes, your ill fated attempts to burn us all
From the ashes of your hated we shall always rise
Higher than your closed mine will ever let you do
For damned that we may be by your word
Blessed and gifted beyond you we all are

For our hands are free, our thoughts are clean
Hunted and burned your neighbor out of spite, now who is damned?
Took your God's duty into your mortal hands
Who is on the darken path?
Can you sleep at night? With the screams of today's burning echoing in your head
Did you do right, did you save your soul?
Or did you damn it all?
For all your good, in one second to hell you vanish yourself
Eternity in pain

For you hunters have died with the ages
We still dance, celebrate the Goddess, worship what we will
Live and free we be
And when our time comes, in Summer Land we all will be
Still celebrating, happy and free.

To give you a hint Amy....it has a very "Mr. Tinkertrain"-like Ozzy sound almost. Very driving....

Go down and read the other lyric....let me know what you think....

The final song to be recorded on our re-released CD. The first person to guess what it's about gets a cookie....

Forgotten

I don't know what tomorrow brings
Since they put me in this cell
I watch the shadows move across the wall
No sense of time when you're in hell

Took my life
Took my pride
And left me wondering who I am
On silver wings
I used to fly
Now I'll never see the sun again

There's nothing left for me to believe
No hope for me to escape
I walk the razor's edge of sanity
While deep inside, my soul's been raped

Thirty years
I survived
Although nobody hears my cries
Left to die
Still alive
Only darkness meets my burning eyes

As my memory starts to fade
On my own
I still recall, but it won't last
Fight to hold on to my mind
All alone
Scattered pieces of the past

I carve a line into the prison wall
As another day goes by
I sit abandoned by the hand of fate
No tears are left for me to cry....

Probably wrong, but by the lines that I quoted by you it sounds like you are talking about Charles Manson. If not don't take any offense by my answer. :)
