View Full Version : Neon Gensis Evangelion
DanAria 10-03-02, 11:21 AM has anyone ever seen this series. I was just wondering if there was any fans of this series in here. If not watch it. Its three teenagers in the future. They must piolt EVA's and fight angels. I can't tell you much of anything else or it would ruin it. Its on of the best anime's I have watched.:)
Tydestra 10-11-02, 09:10 PM I watched it when it started, but NGE lost me soon after that. Its lost its edge, but then again, so has a lot of anime these days. Even Manga is being too soft!
Ah... how I miss the straight edgy days of La Blue Girl :(
dumbdegenerate 4-14-04, 08:34 PM I LOVE Evangelion, and i've not even seen the whole lot yet!
They whole series, plus the 2 movies made at the end, are available on DVD and i am currently working through them with a friend. The first episodes all follow a very similar pattern, but i'm told that a more serious plotline begins to develop later on that is finally explained in the movies.
Apparently a live action/CGI movie in the making!
Metalfan83 4-14-04, 10:45 PM I've caught a couple of eps of it, but I couldn't tell ya what was going on. I want to get to Sam Goody's sometime and see if I can find any NGE DVDs, but I have yet to see any. Guess I'll have to order through TokyoPop.
And Ty - if you want a good, edgy anime, try CyberCity Oedo 8. Damn good anime! :thumb:
I've always thought it was an over-rated series with ugly character designs (including the robots).

Try Ninja Scroll if you like Yoshiaki Kawajiri's films. I think he also directed the new Vampire Hunter D film, so you know this guy directs high quality stuff.
Mamoru Oshii also directed some great films including Beautiful Dreamer, PatLabor, Perfect Blue, and Ghost In The Shell. The latter should only be watched for the animation and designs since the storyline is botched all over.
As far as series go, don't bother with Evangelion and instead get Gundam 0083. If you wanna get something by GAINAX, then get Secret Of The Blue Water and Aim For The Top. They also directed a favourite film of mine - Royal Space Force: The Wings Of Honneamise.
I don't think Katsuhiro Otomo's Memories was ever brought over Stateside, but that one is also a must-see.
Metalfan83 4-14-04, 11:20 PM Didn't Cartoon Network air Gundam 0083? It was probably severely toned down if they did. Still, though, thanks for the recommendations. I'll have to go check out my TokyoPop catalogs and see if I can order any of it. :yesnod:
dumbdegenerate 4-15-04, 08:15 PM Over here (Scotland) you can buy them in HMV, dubbed (pretty well, actually, and i think there is a subtitle option if you prefer), so HMV.com, or Amazon probably have them if you're in the states.
Tydestra 4-15-04, 10:07 PM Cartoon Network is launching an all Anime Network! Yay! After rewatching Neon Genesis all over again, I finally get it so I like it again :D

That's cool! But... wouldn't all the anime be censored, then, since Cartoon Network would be showing it? And would they play nothing but Dragon Ball on it? Not that I don't like Dragon Ball or whatnot, it's just they've driven it into the ground on Cartoon Network.
Anywho... have they announced when the channel will be available?
They'll probably be dubbed and edited for the tellie, but the exposure it will get is more than worth the hassle (anime has always been dubbed and edited when it has been aired on TV in almost any country - the UK and the US being the most stringent of cases). If you want to get the subbed, unedited versions then buy or rent the DVD.
