For the last year, I've been battling with this little furry guy for looooong time. He's been living comfortably in my attic. I could always hear him digging and scratching up there which was right above my office. The noise was irritating at times but I got used to it cause I figured he wasn't really bothering anything and I didn't have anything up in the attic that he could ruin, so I let him be. Just 2 months ago, he figured out how to get into our house. My wife must have left a Rieces Peanutbutter Cup in one of her purses in our spare bedroom which is where the hatch door to the attic is. One day I went in the room to get something out of the attic and I see little pieces of a Rieces wrapper everywhere. :irked: I KNEW the little varmit was in the house! I didn't know where he was and I was worried that my wife would have a run-in with the mouse and freak out (I was thinking 'serves her right for leaving chocolate in her purse burried in the spare room'). I'm too nice of a guy so, it was my goal to catch this furry critter. This all became more important because my Wife's sister is coming to town next week with her 1 year old daughter. So, I can't have a furry varmit critter loose while my niece plays on the floor. Anyways... so a couple of weeks ago... I spotted the mouse in the kitchen! Hey, smart critter... knows where the food is. Now that I knew where this varmit's new headquarters was.. I could build "The Traps". So, I set them in place but for a while nothing seem to be working... Everytime I walked into the kitchen, I see the varmit race across the floor! Sometimes I could've sworn the mouse was flippin me off!! Hey, Bronx mice are tough little critters! LOL. So, low and behold.... this morning I hear all this commotion underneath the microwave cart in the kitchen... I look under and THERE IT WAS stuck in the trap trying to get the peanutbutter!! WooooooHooooooo!!! I WIN! 1 to 0!!! http://websmileys.bei.t-online.de/div271.gif

Anyways... just wanted to share the story with you and here's a couple of pics of the furry critter varmit!!

I'm not even going to start on how very, very distrubing this is Taz... I'll let Pagan do it. But congrats on your hard fought victory :) But the pictures are way too much!!!

As for Bronx mice flipping you off... yes, they do that. I had one in my house after we remodeled the bathroom. He was a ghost mouse, no one saw him except for me. My mom thought I was losing it.

I'm not even going to look at the pictures. Glad you got rid of that mouse. I know how you feel, Taz when it comes to varmits. I grew up in the country and my family had our share of them.

Disturbing? Listen, when you have no job... and your sitting around the house with a furry varmit pissing you off, you let me know if it's disturbing or not. ;)

You don't like the pics? Come on! :p

Pagan already knows I'm not well.... it was a prerequisite for joining the band..... ask him. ;)

Well at least it was a cute little fuzzy varmint. I've been tormented by a possum before and that wasn't a pretty situation.
Anyhow, congratulations on the hard fought victory over your nemesis!:D

Hey, a rat is a rat! You should have called or PMd me Taz, Went to a special school in the Navy to learn all the tricks of pest control! I could have had him in your trap within the first week of your problem! Congrats anyhow!

Congrats on your victory, Taz.

Those pics weren't disturbing at all.......they would've been if they were pics of the mouse in the trap as he was reaching for the peanut butter with his last gasp of air! :barf:

LOL... I grew up in a forested area. Mice would spend their winters in the warmth of my house on occasion. I would trap them in a certain way. If I spotted one... which they usually would scurry and hide under furniture... I would grab a bath towel, stand by the piece of furniture with the towel hiding my feet... they can recognise your feet, but they tend to follow the 'out of sight, not there' thought pattern. I would wait until they made their break for it and throw the towel over them and trap them. I would then release the mouse outside. Of course, I guess it took them all of 20 seconds to get back into the house. Oh well.

Gluetraps rock, eh Taz? :D I once had a house near a field and caught over 30 mice in one winter. Never took any pictures of them though...musta slipped my mind

Funny story: during that winter, the wife & I could hear the mice playing on top of our bedroom ceiling. Now the ceiling was sorta vaulted, flat in the middle and then slants down towards the walls. We could hear the mice playing up there, sliding down the slanted part and landing next to the wall! That when I decided to take action.

Now your next task is rounding up all the traps. You think a mouse is trouble for a 1 yr old, a glue trap is waaaaaay too enticing for a curious toddler. In case of emergency, use veggie oil to release the glue. Not that I've ever had to do that...;)

I am sooooo afraid of mice! I'm not even lookn' at that picture. I'm an animal lover but mice get to me sooooo bad! I'm totally serious. So, I mean it when I say

 that's a funny story Buc!

I know what you mean about cleaning up. I have a week to do it. Plus, my wife is buying one of those gates for the doors so our little niece wont get into the kitchen. ;)

Veggie oil huh? Hmmm... you sure you weren't watching too much of that movie 'American Pie 2'? j/k ;)

No coment !!!!!!!

I know how disturbing a rat can be. But if you got that close to take the picture why couldn't you just grabbed it and taken it outside. So what if it is full of diseases and it might have bitten you... you could have sparred him his life

Who am I kidding.. :hammer: I am glad you killed the bastard.. now do you have a picture of it dead

Me too Pagan, probably because I actually own two pet mice.
I've had a little talk to them about all this and I've found out that they are close personal friends of Mighty Mouse!
I'd watch your back if I was you Taz - he's going to fly in one day and club you with an ACME wooden mallet :hammer: then twist you into a giant knot and swing you around a bit! ;)

Taz
9-30-02, 12:53 PM
Yea, yea... I know. I'd get a humane trap but #1- nobody sells them in the Bronx, that I know. #2 If I released it outside... who's to say that the varmit would come back to my house!

... So, what's done is done.

Retro, I guess I'm gonna have to take my chances now Mate!

Yeah... I hate to kill things too... well, maybe that just extends to all things furry. Anyway, scroll up to my reply... like I said, the whole cacth and release deal just continues the problem. Though when I was six, it was fun.

The problem with catch & release in the case of mice is the boomerang effect. Especially in winter, as darkmatter elluded to earlier, they make a beeline for your crib all over again. Also, if you release a common mouse far enough from human habitation, he may well starve to death if the predators let him live long enough. Either way, the mouse is toast.

Mice are not rodents they are cute cuddly..ok they are nasty rodents. Good point there Cal. :p

My cat loves to eat mice and especially like the one Taz had living quietly, not bothering anyone....stealing measly amounts of food to feed the childern since daddy mouse got hurt in the war.

I got the best mouse trap..a 20 pound Main Coon cat that eats them all up....except that one body part that I always seem to step on. :irked: :D

Jasper

Here is the deal, penut butter, and bacon are EXTREMELY attractive to rats, mice and most other creatures like them, use THAT to bait them, and if you can catch and release (not my preference, but still okay) you can, or use those items to lure them to a trap.

And, you can always release them in the nearest park, field, (or river LOL!).

Taz

Thanks Ron! :thumb:

I've got the peanut butter out... so far I've caught 4 varmits!

Ditto, me too... except when it comes to roaches. That rule doesn't exist for them. If I ever needed any clear proof that the devil is alive and kicking and planning in the destruction of the world...its in the roaches, the roaches are his minons. Those bastards just don't know how to f*cking die!!! And they are everywhere!!!!!

Go buy the pellets, You won't have any after they eat them, and they don't die in your house. From what I was told, they eat the pellets, the pellets make them real thirsty, they run outside to drink, and the drinking makes their liver bleed and they die outside. Check with someone, but that was I was told and it did work

Poor little mousies *pouts* Taz, you're a big meanie! I'm kicking your butt whenever I get the money to come down and see Livesay!
