i just came to the realization that my vhs music tapes will eventually have to be converted to dvd!!!!,i knew that tapes fade over time but i just saw a site that charges(a good deal of money too) to convert vhs to dvd and cd!!........only it's like 99 dollars per 2 hrs!....good idea but it's pricey....i gotta store my vhs tapes better, and it is reccomended that if you plan on watching vhs any,......that you make a copy of them and store the original away!!
better to watch a copy than watch your original fade right?(master which may be from the 1980's)because it is said that each vhs has an exp date!!!,and that exp dat is 20 yrs!!!,thats right 20 yrs!!...and i guess thats only if you watch it a moderatly!!.......anybody know when the recordable dvd players are coming?......read in a mag i believe that it is 2001..........2001 is supposedly the date, who knows!......anybody else know of where you can get 1? my tapes run great for now, only a few have some graininess to them, and those are the ones i am gonna be careful with!! just about all of them though run great for the time being guess i should get myself some copies right??...........thanks

Yes, definatly make copies right now. Put away the originals in a safe place.. When you get the extra money, get a DVD writer and copy them yourself. Forget that $99.00 for two hours.. Let the rich people use that service...

You can buy one of those Tivo setups that allows you to record to a Hard Drive.

Play your taped videos and record them to the Tivo Hard Drive which holds about 6 hours worth.

When you are done, play the videos that you saved to the Tivo hard drive and then record them with your VCR using new, high-quality tapes.

Oh, is that what TiVo is? I had no idea.. Cool concept. As soon as recording DVD devices go on sale, you can make your own DVDs. Interesting.. How much does TiVo cost?

Although it has been since May, since you posted this subject. I know the new DVD recorders (called DVD-ROM) is coming this year (2001). They will run $4000.00 dollars, to start. Blank DVD discs will run $35 dollars. They will act like VHS tapes. You can record on a blank DVD as many times as you want. Recording over old material. And it doesn't matter how many times you record over the DVD.

Just thought you should know.
