View Full Version : Official 80sxchange Awards: Category #36 - Best Board Game Of The 80's
Iluvthe80s 9-21-02, 09:30 AM *I give some credit to Roem for helping me think of this topic.* This week you will vote on the best board game to play in the 80s. Some of these games got there start in the 80s, while others were old favorites that continued to stay popular through the 80s. On this one I feel I will have a lot of "other" votes. Please write the game you vote for with "other" next to it so I can find them easily. You have two weeks to vote. This voting session will end on 10/05/02. Have fun! :)
80sTrivia 9-21-02, 11:48 AM Being a trivia buff (natch!), I gave my vote to Trivial Pursuit. I actually enjoyed the stock yard trading game Pit! the most of any board game!!! :thumb:
Roemello 9-21-02, 01:43 PM Wow...I actually had a decent idea? I went with Monopoly...I just kicked arse in that game :hammer::D
I voted Other. :) My favorite was Bargain Hunter.
LOSTNTHE80S 9-21-02, 09:38 PM TRIVIAL PURSUIT! I had about 4 different sets of the cards..ORIGINAL, BABY BOOMERS, SILVER SCREEN, and I forget the other one. I have several other sets now also. Still love to play once in a while.
Iluvthe80s 9-21-02, 10:22 PM After thinking about it awhile, I decided to vote for Trivial Pursuit. That game really stood out in the 80s and was very popular. Plus, it brings back good memories of my cousin and I playing it.
Definitely Trivial Pursuit. I may not know a lot of important facts, but I know plenty of trivial nonsense so this game is perfect for me.:p We've got 4 or 5 versions around the house right now. Bill (my husband) was shocked because I am the first person who was ever able to beat him at this game.
ImSoooSure 9-21-02, 11:10 PM My vote goes to Monopoly.I just don't want you guys to know I really liked Operation. :shh: Is that a board game anyway?
DC Rebel 9-21-02, 11:41 PM I would have to go with Monopoly on this one.
Trivial Pursuit for me! I got a little sick of Pictionary, everyone was playing that one.
Scattegories was a brilliant game too. I'm not sure how big it was around the world, but it was a personal favourite of mine and still is.
Duece5150 9-22-02, 07:21 AM I'm going to go with Monopoly on this one. I have some very good memories of playing this with the family. :)
totallycait 9-22-02, 09:36 AM My friends & I spent the most time playing Pictionary. I don't think we ever finished a game of Trivial Pursuit; we'd get bored partway through.
Darkside 9-22-02, 09:41 AM I enjoyed Monopoly and Trivia Pursuit in the 80s. I went ahead a voted for Trivial Pursuit though.

I'd consider it one...kinda. A very innovative board game perhaps? (either way, I liked it too ;)).
Voted "Other" - as I would go for Risk (I think it was around in the 80s?).
Just bought the "1980's" version of Trivial Persuit today - filled with wonderous 80's questions only :) Gonna be great fun playing it sometime with a few beers, some good friends and mixed 80's music on the stereo - aaahhhh :D
80sTrivia 9-30-02, 06:11 AM Speaking of Trivial Pursuit, has anyone else seen the commercials for the new Trivial Pursuit that's based on the past twenty years since the game debuted? Lots of 80s pop culture references, as you can imagine! Since I've never been able to locate the 80s Edition Trivial Pursuit, looks like I'll have to purchase this one! :)
Prefab Sprouter 9-30-02, 08:53 AM I went with Harket's choice RISK. The best board game I ever played!!!!
BlitzKid 10-02-02, 06:23 PM If Risk ist the game where you have tiny pink army (yes, i always played with the pink stones) and you try to conquer the world, then i loved that game. Would be fun to play it against Harket and Prefab! I'll kick your butts guys! :p
And if Life is the one were you turn a wheel and go with your little cars through a whole life incl. kids, inssurances,... then i I loved it as well!

OH YEAH??! I'm the RISK-F******-MASTER :hammer:
...and PINK - what are you thinking??? The only color is RED, as in the RED Army (he he) :p
Btw. a funny story I've been told about the game (Don't think it's true but...) - in the beginning it should've said on the box (at least here in DK) "A game to gather the family" - this was cancelled in subsequent versions, as it did quite the opposite  I haven't played a game yet where there hasn't been loud arguments during play :) Even had games where people wouldn't talk for days afterwards :D
Iluvthe80s 10-05-02, 08:17 AM This poll is now closed. The winner for best board game of the 80's is TRIVIAL PURSUIT.
