View Full Version : Will You Be Watching The Sept.11 TV Coverage?
Iluvthe80s 9-10-02, 05:00 PM September 11th will be covered with coverage of the year anniversary. Every channel will have some kind of tribute or even footage of what happened last year. Will you be watching TV shows on Sept. 11 that are connected to the day's events?
80sTrivia 9-10-02, 06:35 PM I don't plan on watching very much television tomorrow. I don't know that I can take watching more footage of the planes crashing into the buildings and the towers collapsing. It doesn't seem possible that it has already been a year since that horrible, unforgettable day...
djdaffy1227 9-10-02, 06:40 PM yes I will
I know what you mean, Trivia. There seems to be so much sensationalism surrounding everything in the news these days, and September 11 in particular, that it does tend to wear thin. On the other hand, this has been such a defining moment for our generation that in a lot of ways it's impossible to escape regardless of what's on TV. Whenever I see a picture of the World Trade Center in a book, or in an old movie, I can't help thinking of our great civilization and the great things it is capable of building, and of all we lost as a society and a family of human beings that day. So, my attitude is sort of passive. Like any good American, I think I will do my part to live my normal life as much as possible as we commemorate this terrible event, but I will certainly be listening and thinking of the victims as I do so.
DC Rebel 9-10-02, 07:33 PM Nope, I will not be watching television on that day. I will spend my day doing other things.
BlueMolly2001 9-10-02, 07:36 PM I'm going to watch some, but not all. I do think the TV stations are going a bit too far with this. I know we need to remember those who died, but do we really need to show 16 hours of the planes crashing into the towers? Once is enough for me thank you.
Iluvthe80s 9-10-02, 07:38 PM I might watch a little in the evening. I will probably spend more time on the computer though.
BlueMolly2001 9-10-02, 07:45 PM As someone wisely said, "Thank goodness for the invention of video, DVD players, CD players and computers. I'll probably stick VH1 Classic or TechTV on tomorrow evening and night.
totallycait 9-10-02, 09:57 PM Add me to the list of folks who will be avoiding TV coverage tomorrow. If I turn on the telly I will probably look at Lifetime Movie Network or something like that.
ImSoooSure 9-10-02, 11:54 PM No, I can't believe all the TV stations are dedicating the entire day to it. I don't think we need that in order to memorialize what happened. I don't anyway. I'll never forget with or without it being on TV 24/7.
NO I don't plan on watching tv. During the day I am at work and I am to busy at night to watch anything.
I was planning on not watching any of it, but I wound up watching about an hour of the Today show this morning. ("some" for the poll's purpose) Even that was too much for me. I think it's good to commemorate the day but I don't think it would be very healthy for me to watch the coverage all day. It's not like I'm not thinking about it.
Anyway. I hope everyone is doing all right today. {{hugs}}
On BBC there was a 5 hour documentary on the WTC in 2 parts - the attack and then the cleanup operation.
This featured camera footage taken by the Fireman attached to one of the NY squads. One cannot begin to imagine what they went through.
By the end of this show, I had wept. :cry:
I didn't intend to, and didn't watch any of the coverage. I watched it all last year, and cried my heart out. My son and I discussed the importance of the day, and the effect we each felt.
I think if we would have all shown a quiet dignity, had a memorial show (maybe an hour or two), we wouldn't have let those bastards see how deeply they could affect us. Don't give them the opportunity to see our suffering, it just motivates them to do it again. That's just my twin Lincolns.
