I can remember my Mom & I sitting in front of the t.v. for days...knowing in our hearts that she would not survive and being so relieved when they got her out! I felt like I had been holding my breath all those days. Even tho we were the width of a country away and had no idea who any of the people involved in her rescue were, we still said a prayer of thanks for the heros in Midland, Texas that night.

I remember the event but I don't remember where I was when I heard about it. I didn't really watch all the coverage but I definitely prayed for that little girl. I was a little amazed that open wells like that still existed. She was definitely very lucky. I always feel good when I see people pull together in a situation like that.

I had just barely moved to Austin the week that it happened. Continuous new coverage on that one. I didn't think she was going to live through that..miraculously she did.

What year did this happen? I'm trying to pinpoint where I was when I heard of it but I just can't remember when it happened..

The baby Jessica, the one that fell down the well, that happened like October 1987 in Texas.

Wow, that's so long ago now!!!! I can't remember WHAT the heck I was doing back then.. Jeez. I'm not much for remembering things. I could never make my own 80s Timeline!

I only remember it because we had just barely been in Texas a week. I don't think I would have remembered it if we'd lived someplace else.

I remember that. At the time, I worked with a guy whose parents lived close to those people. This may slash about those people, but according to this guy, they were white trash. And the baby often went unsupervised. When one of those news shows do a retro thing about it, they never mention that the baby was nearly taken because of neglect. Sorry to bust any bubbles but that was an avoidable incident.

Well, that's not hard to be Annual_Mayhem! It's pretty common these days as well. Some people just aren't cut out to be parents...

I remember the event clearly, but don't remember what I was doing at that time. I didn't think she would make it either. I remember it being all over the news here in Texas.

I remember the event...don't remember where I was though. I do remember watching the coverage on it though..

I agree Mayhem...that was definitely an avoidable thing to say the least.

I was working at my first job. AJ's bar. $2.00 an hour under the table. I remember it being on the TV in the bar.

I remember the Baby Jessica thing. I was 6 when that happened. I remember being in my room in bed watching the coverage on TV. My mom was really into the whole thing. I can still remember that image of them pulling her out and carrying her away. Poor thing.

I was about 17 when it happened...I remember thinking....why weren't these parents watching her? Why would they just let her go outside by herself? I'm glad things turned out ok in the end, but, I was a bit at the time. I agree w/ Red...it was avoidable.

I saw a documentary on this event. The guy who eventually got her out later killed himself. He couldn't take the stress of being an overnight hero and then nothing in just a few short months. Sad really.

I was in college in '87, so I'm going to take a wild stab and say that I was probably drunk when this happened. And, Yes! I do mean all of 1987... And '88 and '89 too.

Since I was only 3 at the time I can't say I remember it. But when I was in school, a few years after that, we watched a movie they made about it. I think I was like in 7th grade or something. I was shocked when my teachers said it was a true story.

I'm a native Texan, and this happened in Midland, Texas - relatively no where NEAR Dallas, where I lived... because Texas is so huge. But her name was Jessica McClure, and I remember being in my early teens, I thinkk, and being GLUED with my mom and dad to the television - contant coverage.
I remember my church had 2 extra bible studies 2 nights in a row where they did nothing but pray for "Baby Jessica", as she had come to be known all over the state.

Later there was a REALLY CRAPPY movie made for Lifetime TV, where Patty Duke (of all people) played Jessica's grandmother. Patty Duke faking a Texas drawl is NOT pretty.

I remember being glued to the TV when that happened with my mom, and she went into the kitchen to see my dad in who had just got home from work and I started yelling 'they got her out they got her out!!'. They both came running in and we were all so happy she was okay:)

She just graduated, and still lives in Midland. I used to live 20 miles from her. Never met her, they never made a huge deal out of, not to my knowledge.

I do remember feeling bad about the news of baby Jessica. I recently read an article about her in People magazine & she seems to be doing good.
