Where was I? Jeez. I guess just living with my Father at that point.. I'm not sure when I got it - but I wanted Pac-Man! Oh, the graphics were so horrible! But for back then, it was awesome.. Ya know what, though? I always wanted that MINI pac man arcade game! That was cool! But the Atari is what I had. I loved Astroids and Star Master.. I think I had a few other good ones.. Combat?! Blah! It came with that for free. hehe

I Don't remember where I was, but I sure remember all the games. I think pitfall was probably my favotite, although I did get the required number of points to get the patches for laser blast, and river raider.

I was "lucky" enough to get the sears knock off version of the Atari 2600. It froze up all the time, and half the games would not work. But hey, at least it was better than COLECOVISION. And far better than INTELLEVISION (was that the name of it?)

Yeah, Intellivision was a system http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif There were all kinds of freaky systems out there...Coleco, Emerson Arcadia, VideoPac, Vectrex...not sure if the last three were 80's, but they're weird sounding and actually did exist at some point http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif

I have to say that when i got my Atari i was highly dissapointed! This was actually in the first waning year of the 2600 i do believe. The videogame crash could have been all my fault for all i know http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif
I remember it took us FOREVER to get the thing to display on our television.
I know my cousin Bill got like some kind of super-high score in Space Invaders (the one with color graphics), and i was lucky to be able or to bother getting past stage 4. He was at like stage 86 or something! He wanted to take a picture but we didnt have any film handy. Also he wanted to keep it plugged in until tomarrow, but less understanding heads prevailed.

Anyhow because i was too young to be fully concious (oh if only again) when the Atari really came out i dont recall it being a huge breakthrough. But since i was seeing Hogans Alley, Spy Hunter and Legendary Kung Fu Masters in the arcades (okay and Double Dragon gotta add that) i wasnt too impressed with the graphic engine but the games were pretty neat if you had friends around!

I'd just like to go on record, and defend Intellivision.

It never locked up, I never had to wait for it to display, and came with, oh I don't know, over 100 different games. My favorite was Pit Fall (look out for the alligators!), but my sister kicked *ss on Asterioids.
Aside from the disk you used to control the movement, you had the 12-button (?) keypad AND the four buttons on the side of the controller. All your controls in one hand.

I must have had over 25 games, and one of my friends had a whole bunch of different games. When we went to each other's houses, we took our games along.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mom still had that Intellivision somewhere in her house. And I'd bet it would still work.

I remember getting my Atari console for Christmas, 1981, I believe. I was so excited! Santa also gave me the game cartridges for Berzerk, Pac Man, Missile Command and Asteroids. I played for hours and hours, until my parents wanted to watch something on the television!!!

Me and my brother got our 2600 for the christmas of '83 i believe. It was used...cause my parents couldn't afford a brand new one. But hey...it worked and I thought it was awesome. Demon Attack and Kaboom were 2 of my favorites. Even my mom enjoyed playing it. Her favorite was Missile Command...lol. My mom was always the coolest..hehe :)

I won my Atari out of a box of Cap'n Crunch (http://theimaginaryworld.com/box317.jpg)! (link=scan of front of box, here's the back (http://theimaginaryworld.com/box318.jpg)) It was Christmas '82. My grandparents had already bought me one as a gift, but they sold it to our next-door neighbors.

The funniest thing is that my second cousin Ben *also* won an Atari in the same contest! His was Peanut Butter crunch, though.

I vividly remember the thrill of finding that little slip of paper in the box and screaming at the top of my lungs. "OH JESUS, I WON!" As a seven-year-old, taking the Lord's name in vain at the breakfast table was *not* appreciated, but nobody was counting that day.

My favorite games were E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, (Roem and I had a great chat about this game a while ago! Damn tsetse flies!) and all the cheap Imagic games like Riddle of the Sphinx, Atlantis, Cosmic Ark, etc.

My Atari died in 1992, and I gave all the games to my other cousin... not the one who also won. His console still worked. I'm proud to say that he's 17 years old right now, and a retro gamer! His sister and I have worked pretty hard on him :D
