View Full Version : You were proposed to.
ImSoooSure 10-15-01, 05:30 AM So, now that we know where you met, where was the question popped? My husband asked me to marry him while we were out playing with the horses. He knelt down by the horse and popped the question. He allready knew the answer but I love the romantic way he did it. :D
wavemaster 10-15-01, 05:48 AM Thatīs out of question for me... :p
Seriously, we have talked about it more than one time, but unless our future isnīt secure in many ways, we simple canīt afford it.
Besides, my girlfriend is still objecting against a marriage in a Drive-Thru church in Las Vegas... :D
In the living room. I know, it was soooo romantic I almost fell over. Almost. He said (from the arm of the couch, no less), "Will you marry me someday?" Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather . I said, "Sure, someday". He said, "You know what I mean!" Whenever someone tells us about their romantic proposal, I just look at him and he rolls his eyes and sighs. LOL Takes years to teach a man how to know what that look means. LOL
LOL Puleeze. It does indeed. We can be watching tv and he'll just say in casaul conversation 'so you want to get married'. I just keep rolling my eyes. kIng of romance LOL but he's handy :)
We actually decided to get engaged about a year before I got my ring, so there wasn't really any surprise in the "traditional" moment. My boyfriend was visiting me at home for the first time, during summer break. It was very romantic, even though we'd bought a bottle of what turned out to be Very Bad wine, and we kept having to brush our teeth, LOL!
I asked my *cough* first fiance to marry me while on a weekend trip with her to Oklahoma. I was in my Navy school in Illinois, and she was flying into Oklahoma to visit her parent's families. She bought me a ticket and flew me down. We went down to the lake, and went swimming. We climbed out of the water, and onto the little pier thing, and *cough* *gag* made love*cough*. While laying there in each other's arms, I reached over and pulled the ring box out of my back pack, and popped the question. Of course she said yes.
Too bad a year later, she had slept with 3 of my friends and basically just vanished out of my life!

I would say that after the hurt and anger cleared, it was good fortune that you didn't have the expense of marrying her only to divorce her. Seems your 'friends' could have shown you a little more respect, too.
Joe and I lived together for almost 6 years before we decided to look for rings.. I picked out the ring I liked.. Then... about a week before Christmas, I came home from work and there were candles lit in the house, and roses, a card, and the ring box on the coffee table... I knew what was coming, he was making dinner at the same time.. and he came into the living room right away and picked up the ring box. He opened the box and pulled me to him and asked me if I would spend my life with him.. it was cute.. I, of course agreed... we hugged and kissed.. and then he looked at me and said.. "Your dinner is burning!"
It was so funny! He ran back into the kitchen to finish dinner..
morningmyst 10-17-01, 04:00 PM Am I the only one who was proposed to in a not so romantic way??? (the 2nd time he got it right though). We had gotten into an argument, and we were making up. <eg> . He then says....."Let's get hitched..." WTF??? (to make matters worse, it was April 1st. I turned to him, and told him if he wanted me, he had to do it right!! It took him about a week, but he did the whole candlelight and dinner scenario. Got down on one knee and everything. :D
I love reading the stories.
Jasper my sweet,,, *hug* I am so sorry that happened to you. Let me know who she is and i will kick her ass.
My boyfriend asked me to marry him while we were partying at my house. We were all a bit drunk. He kept asking me out and I wouldn't take him seriously. We were best friends and i didn't want to ruin that.
Later on that night my ex called and i was so upset and fed up with men in general. I was sitting at the kitchen table drinking a beer when he came next to me.. got on one knee and asked me to marry him. He took my hand and put it to his heart and told me that I had it from the first time he saw me. He was crying and he told me he loved me.
I then punched him in the face...
I love these stories.
We were lying on the floor of the family room at my sister's house where I was living at the time. We knew very early on in our dating that we would get married, but it was always in pretty vague terms. I was flying out west to go to my old college roommate's wedding and the night before I left he brought up the subject of when should we do it. I thought he was talking about when should we just get officially engaged, and it took a while before I figured out he was talking about getting married, not engaged. After I finally figured out what he was really talking about, I made him actually ask me, in clear terms. He knew I wouldn't say no. :)

 How romantic. ;) lol
We were still living in Kansas, but were getting ready to move to Louisiana. We picked out the rings together and then went home. He decided to change clothes and I was in the bedroom with him. He suddenly remembers that he has an engagement ring for me while in his underwear. I made him get dressed and do it up right. He did the knee thing. I cried and of course said yes. We'd just spent a bundle on rings. ;)

Tinajo, you are soooo lucky that he is romantic!! I knew my hubby wasn't really romantic before I married him, but he is so great to me in other ways, and I have learned that that's his way of saying what he feels.
LOSTNTHE80S 2-05-02, 05:14 PM Actually.....I sort of asked him! About a week, before, he had bought me this beautiful heart shaped ring surrounded in diamonds and I knew he was up to something. We had a nice time that evening but it passed without anything major going on.
The next week....we had been out and had a couple of drinks, went back to my trailer and were in bed when I blurted out, "I'm going to make an honest man out of you someday." kidding around....he said, "Ok, will you marry me?" .......good thing too because I think I got preg. that night with out daughter...we didn't find out about her though until two and half weeks before the wedding.
Almost 9 years later......we have another beautiful daughter and still on our honeymoon!
