Tell us a song lyric that affects your mood. It can make you happy, sad, giddy, feel like dancing, etc.

This lyric makes my feet move without any help from my head!

You're playin' so cool
Obeyin' every rule
Dig way down in your heart
You're burnin' yearnin' for some...
Somebody to tell you
That life ain't a-passin' you by
I'm trying to tell you
Get with it but you won't even try
You'd get by
If you'd only cut loose, footloose.....

I guess I should've been there when the movie came out.

You don't need a movie for a song to get to you! Don't you have an 80s tune that reminds you of your beloved? Or that makes you want to scream? ;) Don't be shy!! :)

Alright alright. It's from White Wedding:

There is nothin' fair in this world
There is nothin' safe in this world
And there's nothin' sure in this world
And there's nothin' pure in this world
Look for something left in this world
Start again

It used to make me very sad.http://www.websmileys.de/trau02.gif

OK, Shortie, I'll share a sad one with you. ;)

I wasn't there that morining
When my father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I could swear I heard his echo
In my baby's newborn tears
I just wish I could have told him
In the living years....

From 'In The Living Years' by Mike & The Mechanics

I could have written these lyrics myself, if you know what I mean. Makes my sad and glad at the same time:

Father
My wings are clipped
See the steps that made me trip
Now I'm so lonely

Mother
Time's frozen flame
Seem to linger in the rain
Holding me only

Like a river
I'm flowing
And there's no way of knowing
if I'm coming or going
I need something to chain me down

But it don't matter
My eyes have seen...
For better
Out of blue comes green

Here's mine:

I hear babies cry
I watch them grow
They'll learn much more
Than I'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Ooh yeah

Makes me weep because it's so true about my life...

I saw "Good Morning, Vietnam" on TCM recently and they used that song there. It makes me weep in any version, whether it be Satchmo's or Joey Ramone's version.

Sincerely,

John "outofplacechild" Kilduff

John, that's such an optimistic song though. It's a song full of hope, there's nothing sad about it. :)

One that always makes me a little sad is this:

I hear the ticking of the clock
I'm lying here the rooms pitch dark
I wonder where you are tonight
No answer on the telephone
And the night goes by so very slow
Oh I hope that it won't end though
Alone

Till now I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone

You don't know how long I have wanted
to touch your lips and hold you tight, oh
You don't know how long I have waited
and I was going to tell you tonight
But the secret is still my own
and my love for you is still unknown
Alone

I always listen to Alison Moyet's "Invisible" when I'm down in the dumps:

You've got me so confused
and there's words I could use,
but I'm afraid to say them,
I feel I've been had and now I'm boiling mad
still I can't live without you
You don't have the time, and you won't spend a dime,
not even to call me, no
You don't know I exist and I wouldn't be missed
If I had the nerve to quit you....
Invisible, I feel like I'm invisible,
you treat me like I'm not really there
and you don't really care...

Once I hear the infectious dance beat beat at the start of "You got the look" by Prince I wanna get down and boogie!!!

It's a Dan song, and everytime I hear it, I get sad. :(

(You should know better)
Dream of better lives the kind which never hate
(You should see why)
Dropped in the state of imaginary grace
(You should know better)
I made a pilgrimage to save this human race
(You should see why)
Never comprehending a race that long gone by

(I'll stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
(I'll stop the world)
You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time
(Let's stop the world)
There's nothing you and I won't do
(Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you

The future's open wide

Any time I feel like it's time for me to stop trying to make it in the music biz....this song gives me the push to keep going. It's by Triumph.

Magic Power

Something's at the edge of your mind, you don't know what it is
Something you've been hoping to find, but your not sure what it is
Then you hear the music and it all comes crystal clear
Music does the talking says the things you want to hear

I'm young, I'm wild and I'm free
I got the magic power of the music in me
I'm young, I'm wild and I'm free
I got the magic power of the music....
In me

She climbs into bed, pull the covers overhead and turns her little radio on
She's had a rotten day so she hopes the DJ's gonna play her favorite song
It makes her feel much better, brings her closer to her dreams
A little magic power makes it better that it seems

She's young now, she's wild now, she wants to be free
She gets the magic power of the music from me
She's young now, she's wild now, she wants to be free
She gets the magic power of the music...
From me

You're thinkin' it over but you just can't sort it out
Do you want someone to tell you what they think it's all about?
Are you the one and only who's sad and lonely, reachin' for the top
Well the music keeps you goin' and it's never gonna stop
Never gonna stop
Never gonna, never gonna, never gonna stop

The world is full of compromise, and infinite red tape
But the music's got the magic, it's your one chance for escape
So turn me on - turn me up - it's your turn to dream
A little magic power makes it better than it seems

Sounds like a great tune, Pagan! :) And hopeful, so I'll share something upbeat, too! :)

Song you HAVE to sing along to:

"Up All Night" - Slaughter

Awake from dusk to dawn
Watching the city lights
Stars are shining down
They'll be shining down
On you and I
And when the morning comes
And I'll hold you
'Til the morning light
Everybody sing it now
Up all night, sleep all day
Up all night, sleep all day

That's why it keeps me going Val. If any song I write can make at least one person feel that way, then it's all worth it.

Hmm, I'm in a good mood today, so I'll share a happy one. lol Reminds me of my ever so adorable lil sis. :D

Slow down you crazy child
You're so ambitious for a juvenile
But then if you're so smart tell me why
You are still so afraid?

Where's the fire, what's the hurry about?
You better cool it off before you burn it out
You got so much to do and only
So many hours in a day

But you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want
Or you an just get old
You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through
When will you realize
Vienna waits for you

Slow down you're doing fine
You can't be everything you want to be
Before your time
Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight
Too bad but it's the life you lead
You're so ahead of yourself
That you forgot what you need
Though you can see when you're wrong

But you know you can't always see when you're right
You got your passion you got your pride
But don't you know only fools are satisfied?
Dream on, but don't imagine they'll all come true
When will you realize
Vienna waits for you

Slow down you crazy child
Take the phone off the hook
And disappeaar for a while
It's alright you can afford to lose a day or two
When will you realize
Vienna waits for you.

Here's one that always gets me moving. ;)

I was good, I could talk
A mile a minute,
On this caffeine buzz I was on
We were really hummin'
We would talk every day for hours
We belong to the deadbeat club

Anyway we can,
We're gonna find something
We'll dance in the garden
In torn sheets in the rain

We're the deadbeat club
We're the deadbeat club

Going down to Allen's for
A twenty-five cent beer
And the jukebox playing real loud,
"Ninety-six tears"
We're wild girls walkin' down the street
Wild girls and boys going out for a big time

Let's go crash that party down
In Normaltown tonight
Then we'll go skinny-dippin'
In the moonlight
We're wild girls walkin' down the street
Wild girls and boys going out for a big time

Anyway we can
We're gonna find something
We'll dance in the garden
In torn sheets in the rain

Chorus

Oh no! Here they come
The members of the deadbeat club

So many fantastic songs make me feel varying types of emotions. I have a song for every mood. The following song never fails to make me feel incredibly GOOD inside, even when I'm having the shittiest day ever...

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you'd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
with a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
and in my heart you will remain
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young
Forever Young

And when you finally fly away
I'll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I'm right behind you, win or lose
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young ,Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young
For, Forever Young, Forever Young

When things get me down, this song works for me. It's from the Seven The Hard Way album by you know who.

Run Between the Raindrops
It's always one thing or another, seems like we never get ahead
Reaching out for the brass ring, and landing in the dirt instead
We can't get past yesterday, we're only counting down from ten
It seems like every move we make, brings us back where we began

You've gotta Run Between The Raindrops
If you wanna see the sun
Run, Run, Run, Between The Raindrops
Run Between The Raindrops, if you wanna see the sun
Run, Run, Run, - Run Baby Run

Somewhere there's a sun that's shining
Somewhere we'll find a life that's good
Some way I'm gonna make it happen
Just like you always knew I could

We're treading water on a river of tears
And I don't know what to do
I can take a beating, but I ain't gonna let it happen to you, you

You've gotta Run Between The Raindrops
If you wanna see the sun
Run, Run, Run, Between The Raindrops
Run Between The Raindrops, if you wanna see the sun
You Gotta Run, Run, Run, - Run Baby Run

We're treading water on a river of tears
And I don't know what to do

You've gotta Run Between The Raindrops
If you wanna see the sun
Run, Run, Run, Between The Raindrops
Run Between The Raindrops, if you wanna see the sun
Run, Run, Run, - Run Baby Run

Run Between The Raindrops, if you wanna see the sun
You Gotta Run, Run, Run, - Run Baby Run

You Gotta Run, Run, Run, - Run Baby Run

Okay....here's one that's both sad and happy. Every time I hear it I think of my Dad. :( It's called "Through My Words" by Dream Theater.

All your eyes have ever seen
All you've ever heard
Is etched upon my memory
Is spoken through my words

All that I take with me
Is all you've left behind
We're sharing one eternity
Living in two minds

Linked by an endless thread
Impossible to break

Pagan! That's lovely. I can see the happy/sad connection. There are three songs that remind me of my dad, so I'll share one I haven't before:

"Love Without End, Amen" - George Strait

He said, "Let me tell you a secret
About a father's love,
A secret that my daddy said
Was just between us.
You see, Daddy's don't just love their children
Every now n' then - -
It's a love without end, Amen"

Every time I hear it, I say "I miss you, too, Daddy." It's an older tune, and I only ever hear it at times when I wish I could see my dad again. It's almost eerie, but comforting. The others are "In The Living Years" by Mike & The Mechanics and "God Belss The U.S.A." by Lee Greenwood (Dad is a veteran and we played this, his fave, at his funeral).

OK, now that I feel like bawling into a pillow, I'll go to another forum....;)
