View Full Version : What Is Your Other Favorite Pop Decades? Iluvthe80s 8-28-02, 06:24 PM Most of us, if not all love 80's pop music, but what other decades do you also like of pop music. Click on all that apply. My other favorite would have to be the '70's. Caligula 8-28-02, 07:07 PM The seventies would be my next favorite decade, I actually find alot of the popular artists from the 80's, that I liked their 70's music better ie Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, and Aerosmith to name a few I also like alot of 60's songs, not enough to buy cd's of the 60's but to hear it occasionaly I enjoy it, I like alot of the anti viet nam songs and folk music not to mention Jefferson Airplanes White Rabbit just rocks djdaffy1227 8-28-02, 08:09 PM I like 'em all...in this order 1 80's 2 70's 3 50's 4 60's 5 00's 6 90's Ted Nugent 8-28-02, 08:35 PM Originally posted by djdaffy1227 I like 'em all...in this order 1 80's 2 70's 3 50's 4 60's 5 00's 6 90's Perfect order. :D I feel the same. BlueMolly2001 8-28-02, 08:43 PM I picked the 70s, because there was a lot of great music that came out of that era. I would then choose the 60s as a very close third. ImSoooSure 8-31-02, 01:54 AM I picked the 50s. It's the total package for me though. I like the clothes, cars, music... I'd love to live Grease!:D BlitzKid 9-03-02, 12:48 PM I like the 70s, like to listen to 70s Rock, Glam, Punk. I also like some of the fashion from back then. And the 70s had some influence on the 80s! The 50s are fashionwise a nice decade. And nowadays music is not too bad either. Or maybe i just got used to it? :) amk27 9-03-02, 01:18 PM 70's and 80's are my favorites times.... abcmcd 9-05-02, 10:16 PM 70s. That was my first decade of exposure to music and my brother and sisters' tastes rubbed off on me.:D Chasey 9-07-02, 05:51 PM I liked the 70's, but not all of it. I didn't like the Bay City Rollers and the Glam Rock particularly, but loved stuff like Hot Chocolate, Disco and Funk. My other favourite was the early 90s - from 1990-1992. The 'Baggy Clothes' scene fronted by groups like the Happy Mondays was really good, along with groups like C&C Music Factory, Stereo MC's and The Shamen. Even MC Hammer had his place for a time! When the 'commerical Indie' stuff died I think it was downhill from 1992 onwards, and the rest of the 90's generally became full of pre-programmed boy band dirge. 80sTrivia 9-10-02, 07:24 PM The Swingin' Sixties were Groooovyyyy, baby!!! I just love the Sixties; something about that time has always captivated me!!! The music was absolutely amazing! :thumb: Recker 9-10-02, 09:46 PM 70s. I love 70s music, I love the whole disco thing. I remember the cool discos we had at school. I was a young kid in the 70s and just getting into modern music. In fact I would go as far as to say I love 70s music almost as much as 80s. totallycait 9-10-02, 10:09 PM My other favorites are the 50s and right now, the 00s. I love the music & the style of the 50s, everything from rockabilly to classic pop (a la Sinatra). The clothes, the cars, the music, everything. And I'm enjoying right now as well. A lot of the current stuff is so New Wave I can't believe it! Plus, tho most "teen pop" is really icky and derivative, I have an absolute fetish for NSync. I'm always a sucker for a solid vocal group. I really love the music of the 70s, but some of the styles were just rotten. Most folks looked like they could use a good bath. The 90s were my least favorite. There was some great stuff at the start but man, the mid-90s was like listening to and looking at one long dirge. Very little there that I enjoyed. Christine 9-11-02, 01:28 PM I personally really like the '50's and the '60's. There was a lot of good music that came out of that era! :) :D XTC 9-11-02, 06:00 PM I have to admit I really dig a lot of classic 70's rock. Some of the stuff that Queen, David Bowie, Foreigner, Rush, and a lot of other bands were doing in those days raised what guys like Jimi Hendrix and Pete Townshend did in the 60's to a whole new level, and gave the era a defining sound, more so, I think, than the disco stereotypes we often think of. It made for a great transition from the "buttoned-down" sixties to the modernistic, "post-apocalyptic" 80's. Then in the 90's came along guys like Dave Matthews, Pearl Jam, and Hootie and the Blowfish who fused those eras together, so I've latched on to a lot of more recent alternative stuff as well. Mary 9-12-02, 02:11 PM I voted 90s, 60s, and 00s in that order. I should've voted for the 70s, too, having been brought up on the Beatles, the Stones, Elton John, & Billy Joel's early stuff. The only pop decade I've never really gotten into would be the 50s. Originally posted by Chopper My other favourite was the early 90s - from 1990-1992. The 'Baggy Clothes' scene fronted by groups like the Happy Mondays was really good, along with groups like C&C Music Factory, Stereo MC's and The Shamen They were playing "Move Every Mountain" by the Shamen at the mall last week. That made me pretty happy, I hadn't heard the song in at least 5 years. My huge guilty pleasures from that era are the Spin Doctors and the Soup Dragons. Brings back some of my only positive memories of senior year in high school, dancing around backstage during the state drama competition. http://216.40.241.68/cwm/cwm/rain.gif Chasey 9-13-02, 05:47 PM Yep, it was good stuff MaryC - the last good era before the UK music chart music descended into a myriad of durge...... Cartoon_Chris 9-13-02, 06:14 PM I voted '70s as well. I couldn't quite vote '60s as a whole, because a lot of the pre-British Invasion stuff in the early part of that decade was (IMO) terrible. I do like certain '50s stuff like Chuck Berry, but again not much from that decade as a whole. Femmetal 9-13-02, 10:37 PM I voted for the 70s too. I love a lot of "classic" rock: Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Eagles, Queen, Steve Miller Band, America, ELO, The Runaways, ect, ect... One of my most vivid early childhood memories is as a toddler, laying on the living room floor with my coloring book and crayons while Deep Purple's "Smoke On the Water" was playing on the stereo! Too cool:) Johnny Z 9-13-02, 10:46 PM I voted for 70s, 60s, and 90s. Though actually, it's mostly 70s and late 60s. There are a number of 90s stuff I like, but it's mostly early 90s (and not just spillover from the 80s, but stuff like techno and some new age.) Boggle 9-15-02, 03:19 PM Have to go with the 50's. Great songs, great style, great cars:thumb: Would definitely be neat to cruise around town in a '57 Chevy Bel- Air:cool: Shortie Blonde 9-15-02, 07:09 PM 50s 60s. rockabilly... Dr Funkenstein 10-03-02, 01:40 PM 70's for sure.... Little River Band Boston Queen Elton John Eagles ...need I go on? gently69 10-04-02, 04:55 AM I voted for the 90's, because in the 70's I still was too young (born 69) and somehow I didn't find my way into this music decade afterwards. JS 10-10-02, 08:48 PM I chose the '90s. :) Originally posted by gently69 I voted for the 90's, because in the 70's I still was too young (born 69) and somehow I didn't find my way into this music decade afterwards. I agree: In the '70s, I was too young to remember most of that decade's music (after all, I was born in 1970). Therefore, I voted for the '90s, too. Sarg 10-10-02, 09:14 PM I voted for the 60's and 70's. I should've included the 90's too. I rocked throughout the 60's while in school, hit the disco clubs in the 70's and went on to rockin my way through the 80's and early 90's. It's all been a great experience. Never really got into the 50's music much. I was eight when the 50's ended and the music was not that important to me at the time. Sheibub 11-04-02, 06:11 AM 70s of course! Second only to 80s...:D BlueMolly2001 5-24-03, 03:35 PM I didn't know where to put this topic. Since is music related I thought I put it here, but any of the mods I give you the permission to move it if you can find a better home for it. :) I was just wondering what other decades of music do you listen to besides the 80s? Do you tend to listen to more 70s music or music from the 90s? Besides the 80s, I tend to listen to a lot of 60s and 70s music. This is because I grew up listening to the music, plus I love the music that came out of these decades. Roemello 5-24-03, 03:41 PM Here's a good home...where the topic was covered :) Now ya get to vote too ;) angeleyes25 5-24-03, 04:51 PM After the 80's I'd have to say the 50's.followed by the 90's and then 60's.I really didn't like the 70's or today's pop music. Blitzburgh87 5-24-03, 05:18 PM 50's i like the music and everything about the decade. not a big fan of 70's RockBoy83 5-24-03, 09:10 PM My favorite decade of music other than the 80's would have to be the 60's. My favorite artists from that generation are the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, Monkees, and Supremes. The 50's are fine, but a bit old fashioned in my view. I didn't know much about music of the 70's until recent years, but I do enjoy many of the tunes from those times. The 90's and 00's, however disappoint me to a large degree. While there are many talented artists and beautiful songs in these recent years, there is also the dominace of all those bloody awful rap songs (many of which contain foul language and make references to drugs and violence). Fortunately, there happens to be one decade where the music is just perfect, with a great mix of vocal and instrumental styles from many wonderful artists. That decade of course is the 80's! :bouncy: RockBoy83 Darkside 5-31-03, 03:08 PM I like the stuff from the '50s through the '80s. Some '90s and some music today that is non-radio played. After the 80s though, the '70s is my most fave. LOSTNTHE80S 6-01-03, 09:48 AM I like music from alot of era's but mostly the 70's and 80's. 80s&Indie_Obsessed 6-10-03, 12:51 PM I voted 90s beacuse I adore the whole 'brit-pop and indie' era. Plus, I grew up through the 90s and apprecaite a lot of different styles from then. Ok, I even liked some of the boy bands :S and the Spice girls :S and I bought the Barbie Girl single :S (I was only 13!!) Ooh, I'm so ashamed!!! XXX 6-11-03, 11:47 PM Count me in as another 70s kid! The music, the films, the clothes, the fun! Only the early 80s could top the late 70s! nolanbuc 6-12-03, 01:01 AM Had to go with 70's on this list, but my true second favorite besides the 80's for pop culture is the 40's. PG 6-12-03, 06:40 AM The 70's was my choice. I love everything about the 70's. Music, fashion, decor, disco, movies......etc. Glenn Gulia 3-01-04, 07:41 PM My second fav is the 70's :thumb: Slayergrrl 3-04-04, 11:25 AM I had to go with the 50's 70's and the 00's AngelicR 8-29-04, 10:38 AM I like music from all decades, however, I also dislike music from all decades too (including 80's). I voted 90's, because those were my most active dance performing years and thus, I danced to many of the 90's songs, however, I do like 80's music a lot more than 90's. :) COOL BREEZE 8-29-04, 10:51 AM I voted for the 70's! :thumb: Don't get me wrong ,I love the 80's(Obviously! I wouldn't be here if I didn't! :D ) BUT there will NEVER be another decade where such a tremendous amount of quality songs were released ever again! :thumb: I love most of the music from all decades EXCEPT the 90's. Let's face it 75% of the music (I won't say produced) but that received airplay was garbage! :grrr: Unfortunately, this decade isn't fairing much better! With the 90's came the infection of grunge, alternative and gangsta rap and with it less and less emphasis being placed on the muscianship, vocal talent and lyric writing! I use the term "infection" because I believe this is exactly what these types of "music" are! A plague on the music industry, a virus subjected onto the general listening population. A disease that as of yet as we still have not been able to cure! :fight: BCRichRocker4JC 8-29-04, 12:03 PM Well since the '90s were basically the '70s regurgitated and mixed with other crap and then force fed back down, I can't go with that decade or it's mentor ('70s). So I'd pick the '50s. A fun time in Americana while it still had some innocence before the hippie years took over. And the '00s still don't a have a unique personality to it yet that I could say I like or dislike. So to put them in order: 1. '50s 2. '60s 3. '00s 4. '70s (at least it was original) 5. '90s ElectricYouth 8-31-04, 01:25 AM I went with 70s (uh, hello, Fleetwood Mac? ), but I also went with 90s. Yeah, it wasn't as cool as the 80s, but it is the decade I truly grew up in so I can remember a lot of the music. DJ Midas 9-08-04, 04:56 PM I like 90's pop also. :) whistledog 9-09-04, 11:41 PM The new millenium has been a great time for euro dance music :thumb: Tanya1976 11-14-04, 01:02 AM the mid to late 60s and 70s Jefferson Starship 12-11-04, 08:46 PM Perfect order. :D I feel the same. me too except that 90s & 00s sux big nutz!! :bigcry: 80's fanatic 4-10-05, 09:28 PM I picked the 90's, but I also liked the 70's, 50's, 60's and 00's in that order Dude111 3-26-06, 10:15 PM The 70s :) (@ first i looked @ the poll and thought "I cant vote,'80s' arent there" :D Then i looked @ the poll question CLOSER (hehehe)) 80s Queen 3-29-07, 01:09 PM As a collector I think there's good stuff in all decades of rock and roll and R and B. But, my heart will always be in The 80s. There's nothing better. 80s hair 7-15-08, 05:14 PM 60s, 70s & 90s:thumb: |
