View Full Version : 120 Minutes
Who else watched Dave Kendall's long-running, late-night MTV show, 120 Minutes? I taped it almost every week between 1988 and 1993, when I went to college and had no cable-- even then, I wasn't much for staying up late on Sunday nights.
What were your favorite "modern rock" videos? I'll talk about mine later, but I really must get back to work. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00blush.gif

morningmyst 4-22-01, 04:27 PM I never really got into that show. Seemed boring compared to Headbangers Ball. (that's just my opinion though) I liked some of the songs that were played during that time, but the whole thing just wasn't my bag!

Urethane 4-30-01, 11:05 AM Whoa, whoa, wait a minute, 120 minutes boring? Head Bangers Ball better? I really hate to disagree with you ladies, but 120 Minutes was the only reason I watched MTV once they became too commercialized (I started watching MTV back in 84, before the popularity rush) And you have to admit, the Metal of the Eighties was as commercial as you can get (much like the boy and girl groups today), 120 minutes showcased Music that was different, individualistic, artistic, expressionistic, and lots of other 'istic' words too. I have lots of mp3's from that era of that genre if anyone wants to be converted to a non-conformist http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//PSYCHO.gif

Yikes!! I was metal all the way.... Headbangers Ball was just a way to just go nuts!!! I am not into the commercial bands of today.. but let's face it.. the commercial bands of the 80s were one of the things that made the 80s so great!! The alternative stuff on 120 minutes? Who can even name some of the bands that were on there? Did they shape who I am today? Noooo.... but Kiss.. Poison... Ratt... now that's what I'm talking about!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//OFFWALL.gif
Just my opinion!! What do you think, Myst?

It totally defined the 80's! Loved the way the music made me feel....so free....so alive...so energized...nothing picked me up faster than listening to Kiss or Ozzy or Judas Priest!!! *plus the guys were so totally H-O-T!!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon20.gif*(right Pagan?)

Urethane 5-01-01, 10:56 AM I didn't mean for you ladies to go on the offensive, like morninmyst said " to each their own " I was just showing that others are just as compationate about their fav style music as you all are and I sure do have some great memories with my alternative/newwave/punk music too. Ahhh with that all smoothed over, I think I'll go listen to some Skinny Puppy (my daughter really likes Skinny Puppy) http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//cool.gif

djdaffy1227 5-03-01, 02:08 PM I have to admit it wasn't my favorite show but I watched it because the young ones was on after it on Sunday nights. There was a video for a song called "Virus" and I can't think of the name of the band but I went out and bought many of their C.D.'s. Why can't I think of who they are, this is driving me nuts! They were industrial. I'll have to go find my C.D.'s they are at my place and my computer is at my girlfriends place. If you can help please do.
djdaffy1227 5-03-01, 07:26 PM I went home and got my C.D.'s out. The group was Frontline Assembly!
Iluvthe80s 5-07-01, 04:53 AM Well actually I liked 120 Minutes and Headbangers Ball. I liked a wide range of 80's music.
