Prepare for a major rant <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
Anybody else besides me have the horrible misfortune of seeing this show?
They're playing Sister Christian by Night Ranger, and then right when that awesome "motorin'" chorus starts, a little thumbnial picture appears in the corner of the screen and some knuckle-dragging idiot starts accompanying them - painfully off key.
Then some other screwball says that Tawny Kitaen and the Whitesnake videos were "typically '80s tacky". Did I mention the guy singing along with Night Ranger? And Whitesnake was tacky? EXCUSE ME!?!? Tawny and Coverdale made some of the classiest videos I've ever seen. Tacky compared to what? Janet Jackson fondling herself in front of the camera? Kurt Cobain looking like he needs a dip in a flea bath?
Then... Oh I've just had enough of these idiots trying to defile all that was sacred about the greatest decade in history.
I was reading an issue of Guitar One magazine the other day where they were talking about how crappy the '80s were. This is a magazine (supposedly / tangentially) for guitar players. I guess their memories are too short to remember that the '80s were the decade of Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, George Lynch, etc. etc. ad infinitum. They made these condescending comments in the same issue that they published a Bonnie Rait "music appreciation", and had a transcription to the theme to Batman.
Ugh!
I guess I should just chuckle and feel pity for these people. The only way they can feel good about themselves is to ignore the reality that's staring them in the face bigger-than-life and try and cut down that which was vastly - by several orders of magnitude - superior to what's around now.
This concludes my rant. Thank you for your attention <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
