Prepare for a major rant

Anybody else besides me have the horrible misfortune of seeing this show?

They're playing Sister Christian by Night Ranger, and then right when that awesome "motorin'" chorus starts, a little thumbnial picture appears in the corner of the screen and some knuckle-dragging idiot starts accompanying them - painfully off key.

Then some other screwball says that Tawny Kitaen and the Whitesnake videos were "typically '80s tacky". Did I mention the guy singing along with Night Ranger? And Whitesnake was tacky? EXCUSE ME!?!? Tawny and Coverdale made some of the classiest videos I've ever seen. Tacky compared to what? Janet Jackson fondling herself in front of the camera? Kurt Cobain looking like he needs a dip in a flea bath?

Then... Oh I've just had enough of these idiots trying to defile all that was sacred about the greatest decade in history.

I was reading an issue of Guitar One magazine the other day where they were talking about how crappy the '80s were. This is a magazine (supposedly / tangentially) for guitar players. I guess their memories are too short to remember that the '80s were the decade of Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, George Lynch, etc. etc. ad infinitum. They made these condescending comments in the same issue that they published a Bonnie Rait "music appreciation", and had a transcription to the theme to Batman.

Ugh!

I guess I should just chuckle and feel pity for these people. The only way they can feel good about themselves is to ignore the reality that's staring them in the face bigger-than-life and try and cut down that which was vastly - by several orders of magnitude - superior to what's around now.

This concludes my rant. Thank you for your attention

I totally agree. Some of the greatest guitar players came from the 80's. How can they cut them down? Oh well, who are they to say what is great. We in here know otherwise.

I don't know, Myst. It has been like this for the last two days. I'll have to do some investigating later.

I watched that last night. Actually, after the first part, where they had annoying people on the street commenting on video and songs, VH-1 then ran the full length of the videos for the next two hours, with no commentary whatsoever. I saw obscure videos that I never thought I'd see. And at #1 was Bon Jovi's "Always".

I didn't always like what they had to say - or their picks every time - but I was glad I watched it. I recorded the 2 hours of videos afterwards. That made me happy. Atleast I have that now...

I saw it. The full video afterward was worth it. I didn't the whole thing, as I was watching while on the computer, but they did choose some great songs.

I didn't see the show but I agree with you, I'm really getting sick of hearing what all these idiots are saying about our beloved 80's... Need to send some of these magazines our opinions! Think that'll piss them off

I finally saw the show a few days ago. I just ignored what they had to say. The picks of the videos were pretty cool (minus 2 or 3 of them). I hadn't seen Night Ranger's "Sister Christian" in a long time, so that was a treat.

I didnt see the show, but let me guess they had that Levy guy, and David Wilde both from Rolling Stone. Those idiots are on EVERY show VH1 does, and they have NOTHING positive to say about ANY music. I wish I could get all my music for free, so I could just be a complete prick about everything. That way I could just bash everything, because I had not spent MY cash on it. And why do they have a "countdown" show, all the time, and interupt the videos with people talking? I know they have to fill a few hours, but just show the frieking videos, and put all the talking in between!
