They are the most intresting & influential gothic band I have been exposed to. Their songs ranged from haunting (Bela Lugosi's Dead) to hardcore (Dark Entries). What I wanna do is create a free-for-all forum but I would like to know several things:

What are your 3 favorite songs & why
and/or
What songs would put on a 10 song CD & why
and/or
What role do you think they played in goth music?

I haven't met many fans (even to this day) so any feedback would be great!

Are you "searching for Satori"? :)

Kick in the Eye. One of the first goth dance songs I remember from the clubs in the 80s. David J's bass is just unrelenting. Still love it.

She's in Parties. The coolest of the cool. :D

Spirit. Love the theatrical feel of the song. "We love our audience"

Definitely one of the more important goth bands.

There is a review of The Sky's Gone Out (or at least there used to be) in the Album Review section. That'll give you an idea of my thoughts on Bauhaus.

I was a fan of Bauhaus, I haven't listened to them much in the last few years. But I just might have to go hunt them up. I was way more into Christian Death, but Bauhaus got lots of play as well.

I liked Bauhaus, although I am not familiar enough with them to really call myself a fan. My three favorites would be "Slice of Life", "St. Vitus' Dance", and "Hair of the Dog". I'm not sure how I would answer the other 2 questions and will have to think on it for a while!

My 3 Bauhaus songs are:
Kick In The Eye - Why? Like Bogie said, David J's bassline is "unrelenting" (an excellent choice of words, I might add)
A God in A Alcove - Why? Peter Murphy's lyrics...
Burning from The Inside - Why? I dunno, it just sounds so cool...
If I were to make a CD, I would add:
The Sanity Assassin
Dark Entries
Spirit
Largatija Nick
Hair Of The Dog
Stigmata Martyr
Dancing
and "Fishcakes"...(that Peter Murphy song from "Mask")

By the way, like Barbed Wire Love, i am a Christian Death fan, but i just assumed they were too obscure...I stand corrected!

My favorite song is "She's In Parties". I still have the single on vinyl. Peter Murphy has an incredible voice. The Passion Of Lovers and Bela Lugosi's Dead are my other favs. I first saw them in David Bowie's movie The Hunger but did not pick up on the power of BauHaus till later. I still listen to the double album 1979-1983 in the dark!

I love their version of "Ziggy Stardust". I also really like "Bela Lagosi's dead" thanks to Stacy (Iluvthe80s) who requested it for my Halloween special last year. I have their CD "Crackle-the best of" I never really heard much of them until I bought that CD but I do like them quite a bit.

they are still one of the best bands of all time IMHO. :)
and the members going on to do their own styles produced other wonderful creations.
I don't meet many Bauhaus fans, either, except on the net.
(I'm from Atlanta, too. lol)
I can't choose out of all of their songs.
"Slice of Life" is one.
but I love the whole album "Burning from the Inside".
and what was the name of the song where the woman signs over her soul to the devil? I love that one.
Peter M.'s voice and their music helped the goth movement immensely.

That is where I first saw them as well. I actually did not know who they were till years later. Bela Lugosi's Dead is still my favorite song by them. I just love the haunting music in that song.

Did you know that bauhaus was influenced by Andi and the sex gang children AKA Sex Gang Children. Check out "The Whip" on the Cleopatra label. It has Various artists from that era.

I'd have to go with:

Dark Entries - fast, impulsive. i always loved loved loved this song.

Kick In the Eye - as bogie said, it was a great song to dance to and i love hearing it in a club.

Bela Lugosi's Dead - i know it's their cliche song, but it's a quintessential hit, if making a compilation.

I also really love:
Crowds, Double Dare, and two covers, Telegram Sam (T-Rex did the original, i believe) and Ziggy Stardust. Probably two fo the best covers ever.

The only two Bauhaus songs I really know are She's in Parties and Sizzy Stardust. I was more of a fan of Tones on Tail's Go and all those great Love and Rockets songs :)
