Sal Collaziano 8-03-02, 02:24 PM Ooh! I invented a new hack! Well, I posted it on a vBulletin board and someone is making it and releasing it tomorrow. I guess they liked it! Here's what I posted:
Hey. Can anyone think of a good use for something like this? Let's say I'm in a thread and I want to tell somebody something in private without having to open a private topic. Say two people are having an argument. User1 is starting trouble with User2. Maybe I could do a:
Just leave it alone. Everybody knows he's wrong...
And nobody sees this message except for User2. Any thoughts?
And walla! That was it... What do you's think?
Roemello 8-03-02, 02:34 PM This hack is actually already available as a moderator function...you can have it so mods can discuss a topic in private....not sure if there's something like that for regular users though...
Actually, no....the one I'm thinking of I think is a invisible messages by usergroup....one by individual would something new :)
EDIT: nevermind...I checked what you were talking about over there...I like FF's idea of going about it via vbcode...this could be pretty nifty :verycool:
Shortie Blonde 8-03-02, 04:20 PM  So Teddie and I can talk about pie, eh? :D Shortie likes.
But but...how does one know it's for them?
Roemello 8-03-02, 04:26 PM It'll stand out...possibly be all in bold italics or something like that.
Mind you, these private comments are in addition to comments you make public (ie what you want public will show, private won't show). So if you just post a message with only private text, it'll come up blank and end up getting deleted...so it's not something to overuse....just where needed :)
Sal Collaziano 8-03-02, 08:03 PM FF's idea about using vB code was actually mine. Maybe I didn't put it over well enough. When I wrote [user2] I meant that users name in brackets. Being that "font" is already a bracketed code, he added a string so that it would work even if someone's name was "font". ;)
space-invader 8-03-02, 09:41 PM would you be able to see the secret message by viewing the source code? (when you're not the intended receipiant)
Sounds like an interesting idea!! I would also like to know the answer to what space invader asked....
Or, if someone 'quotes' your post, will they be able to read the private part of it?
Hmmmm, interesting. Like to actually see it being used.

Tydestra 8-04-02, 03:19 AM Sweet, just imagine all the rules I can break underneath that cloak of invisbilty...:lol:
Oh, *cough* its a brilliant idea, really. I love with, when do we get it to test it? :D
DC Rebel 8-04-02, 03:25 AM It sounds like a nice idea. I agree with Ty. When do we get to start using it?
80sTrivia 8-04-02, 08:29 AM Hmmm.... very intriguing! Sort of like in DC, when you click on a Users' name to send PM. I like the premise! :thumb:
This could be cool. I'd like to see it in use, too. :)

I "third" Val & SpaceInvader ;) I plead guilty to View Source-ing when other people's webpages are acting funny.
Sal Collaziano 8-06-02, 05:13 AM Not sure of the answers to these questions yet... When I find out, I'll let you know...
If you send a private mesage to a certain someone will it be invisible for everyone including the MOD's?
What! Nothing is invisible from Mod's. We're everywhere... :jason: JK. I don't really know.

:mwaha: Exactly... we need to know if you people are secretly planing a mutiny on us mods :cry::lol:
 That would never happen we love the MODS :p
Roemello 8-08-02, 02:26 PM nah, I don't think it'd be monitored...if anything at all, it may be checked by me or Sal if there's suspicion of something rotten going on, but other than that, no one else would see it.
Caligula 8-11-02, 06:05 PM I like the idea
HEHE DOES IT WORK
No Cal, I tried it myself too!
...unless it don't work with your own name?
Roemello 8-11-02, 09:47 PM If it were working, me or Sal would've announced it :p It's pretty complicated to put together, so it probably won't be ready as quickly as originally thought....
