Alright. When exactly was it that the "New" Star Trek came out. Was it the end of the 80s? Because I was just thinking about how the Politcally Correct 90s came about and what helped. Star Trek: The New Generation changed the words:

"To boldy go where no MAN has gone before..."

to

"To boldly go where no ONE has gone before..."

Wow! Women rejoiced everywhere! There were parties, festivals, carnivals.. The glee and joy of victory in America was never so potent since the end of World War II. Triumphant is the world. A day no ONE would ever forget..

NOT!

Did anybody REALLY care? I didn't give either cheek of an ass whether it was MAN or ONE. But SOMEBODY did. Someone actually cared enough to change the stupid phrase. Like it REALLY meant anything. Were there really LEAGUES of women everywhere complaining about the statement? I know, I know. Someone, SOMEWHERE must have.. If you are one of those people, try not to complain about how everything is so "Politically Correct". And if you ever find yourself in court for something "Politically Uncorrect". don't complain. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wink.gif I doubt anyone on 80sxchange.com would give a squirrels nut about this kind of thing, though...

Speaking as a woman....(how else would I speak?)...I could've cared less. I prefered the original Star Trek. No one could beat Captain Kirk or Spock in my book.

I agree with ya, Dawn (about Kirk and Spock). http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif I know SOMEONE must have been deeply offended by that horrible line (is "man-kind" a curse word these days?) but I can't imagine it. Life is odd..

You're right Sal, Star Trek the Next Generation started in 1987.
I've been a fan of all of the Star Trek series except for "Deep Space Nine" ever since the first episode of the original "Star Trek" was broadcast in sepember 1966.

I think they changed "Where No Man Has Gone Before" to avoid possible problems with womens groups before they got started.

I still laugh about technology today... Kirk used a communicator that flipped open... Today we have the Flip-phone. We have wristwatches that have cameras in them, and we can talk into a microphone that hooks-up to a computer and not type a word....umm... much like Spock and the other crew members did.

Umm... How long before we can talk by email one minute, and beam over to a designated location thousands of miles away for a meeting 5 minutes later???

I just saw that "Star Trek: the Next Generation" will be on TNN in the fall. TNN has become a TVLand type network.

I like the animated version of Star Trek better, because of the opening and closing theme I use to watch on Nickelodeon 6-7 days a week from 1987-1989.I downloaded the opening theme to the show,it kicked major ass!!!
