View Full Version : Ok, So What Did You Think Of Growing Pains?
I was glued to the tube (Commercials and all)
Having myself fixed in one spot for 2 hours proved I really enjoyed the movie. Its been so long since they aired a cheerful family show. (God knows the 90's didn't have any)Brought back a lot of memories seeing them all over again, but as adults. (Of course, I still think Carol is hot) During the show I was in a great mood. To be honest, the last time I felt that good watching TV was in the 80's. As it ended I felt kinda sad it was gone and couldn't believe I watched a 2 hour episode of Growing Pains and wanted more! Well, just felt like sharing that with my friends, and regreting how I erased those
classic Growing Pains episodes (Recorded when TV was free) Hey I wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts of the show.

morningmyst 11-07-00, 09:23 PM I, too, watched the movie. But, I was strangely disappointed. I think I expected a bit more than what was there. Oh, well.

Nikki_91 11-07-00, 10:53 PM I was expecting a little more, but it was good. I used to absolutely love that show. (Still catch the reruns on Disney!) Mike and Carol fighting was a nice touch. All in all, it was good to see how everyone turned out.

morningmyst 4-04-01, 04:32 PM Yesterday afternoon I caught one of my favorite Growing Pains episodes.....the one where Carol's boyfriend, Sandy, (played by Matthew Perry) dies from drinking and driving. I remember seeing it for the first time and crying my eyes out.http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//crying.gif It still gives my heart a tug when I see it. Anyone else have a favorite G.P episode?

Loved it the first couple of seasons, but it really lost steam for me. I was more into Night Court and Cheers. The youngest brother annoyed me too much.

Sunlover 4-05-01, 11:08 AM Morningmyst, the episode where Sandy died was just about the only episode I felt was any good. I too cried my eyes out...Tracy Gold really did a good job.
The rest of the episodes....well, I felt the whole show was just to showcase then-teen idol Kirk Cameron. It was a cute show to watch if there was nothing else on.
That 80z Girl 2-24-02, 01:44 PM I was disappointed in the movie. It seemed that it was filmed on home videotape rather than whatever type of film they use for most sitcoms and just didn't seem right.
COOL BREEZE 2-24-02, 02:00 PM Loved the show! Carol was hot! Speaking of Carol must had been a straight guy in wardrobe! Remember when she started wearing out fits to show how big her breasts were getting! Two words"Halloween Episode" WoW!
Kirk Cameron was a great smartass and one of the luckiest b@st@rds in the world! He was always like "Mr. christian"..."Abstain"
(not that there's anything wrong with that) But come on! You can't tell me he wasn't getting laid all the time and by some of the hottest babes in showbusiness who played his "girlfriends"You guys out there know what I'm talking about!
Chelsea Noble,Dana Plato,Brook Theiss,Jamie Luner,Olivia D' Abo
THE LIST IS ENDLESS!And lets not forget one of my alltime favorites Playboy playmate Julie McCullough!!!!! The mom was a babe too!Loved it when she and Carol were forced to say "Boner"
Even Ben's girlfriend was a little hottie"She's got a 5 foot 10 inch body on a 4 foot 10 inch frame!"
COOL BREEZE
Awesome Dude 2-24-02, 06:41 PM Growing Pains is one of those TV shows I loved watching back in the '80s, but I can't stand to see it now. I don't know why, but this isn't a very good series in my opinion. Only the first year or two were good. After that it was lame and I stopped watching. Like The Cosbys, Growing Pains overstayed it's welcome waaaaay too much.

Yeah I remember this. All the girls in my elementary and middle school were going crazy over Kirk. They tried to really promote him to the incredible teen idol level that Michael J. Fox had achieved but it never worked out for poor Kirk.
The guy was big news in late 1986 and through 1987, but he became yesterdays news by 1988. Like I said, in my opinion Growing Pains really overstayed it's welcome. 1985-'87 were decent, but everything after that was very subpar.
That 80z Girl 2-24-02, 07:24 PM I'm a year older than Kirk and had a huge crush on him throughout the run of the series. I think he had a much bigger following of girls w/ crushes than Michael J. Fox ever did. Not that MJF isn't a cool guy, but Kirk just had that "bad boy" quality. (Even though we know he's quite the opposite of that image)
Awesome Dude 2-24-02, 07:41 PM Well since I'm a guy I don't know what the girls back then really thought of Kirk. But I remember the girls were crazy over him one year, and then the next year hardly anyone was talking about the guy. His career never took off the way Michael J. Fox's did. Kirk's moment in the sun always seemed very brief to me.
And I distinctly remember some crusty old adverstising exec coming onto some talk show and saying over and over, "We hope this kid will be the next Michael J. Fox!" I dunno, I bet if you poll the females, they would say MJF was the biggest male teen idol of the '80s.
Plus, I like to root for Alex P. Keaton and Marty McFly. hehe
