You may not be familiar with the name but I know you will know at least one of thier two singles. Their first of 2 R&B hits was "Request line" and went to #21 on the R&B charts and #103 on the pop charts. A fine song in it's own right but the reason I mention a group who only had two R&B hits and no pop hits is because of their second single "The roof is on fire", a #45 R&B hit. It is an example of a classic mid-80's hip hop single. With the MC rhyming and giving the crowd a chance to chime back, it was a party hit to the top degree. What really made it memerable was the ending line "The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire, we don't need no water, let the motherf*cker burn, burn motherf*cker, burn". So well know it was used in a song by The Bloodhound Gang and a club classic from a couple of years ago by the Soca Boys. They may only of had two R&B hits but will go down in history forever for their big party hit. Who else jammed to this song?

Was it a remake of it or a sample? If it was just a sample, which song was it? Let the beat hit 'em? Anyway, that is pretty cool that you even remember the song!!

I would call Rockmaster Scott and the Dynamic Threes version a club classic. It was one of the songs you knew was going to be played in the club (in 89). :)

Who else jammed to this song?

ME ME ME!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that the song where the DJs got the line "somebody scream" from? Or was it already being said, and they just put it in their song?

Missy Elliott sampled "Request line" in the beginning of her mega-hit "Work it"

The correct quote would be....."And if you're not a square from Delaware and you have on clean underwear and your mama ain't on welfare....." but that's just being picky :p

I'm on the late train, but I just got clued in to Lloyd Banks "On Fire". After I recognized the backing sample, I looked for the original artist on Billboard.com . Next I searched for RS&D3 and that led me here.

So, Banks titles his cut "On Fire" then uses a groove from "Request Line". Let's just say he scored some major points with me. Thanks to everyone at 80sX for all the background info.
