A poll was taken in May to see what Americans say are the top symbols of our country. Here are the results. The Stars and Stripes, The Statue Of Liberty and The National Anthem were the top three. Runners up were The Bald Eagle, The White House and the song God Bless America. Here's a good one...3% of adults think McDonalds is one of the top three symbols!
Also asked were:
What is the most important element of the American dream? Freedom, financial security and democracy were tops.
What foods are typically American? Hamburger, apple pie and hot dogs.
If you were forced to be a citizen of another country which would it be? Canada, Australia or Great Britain.
What do you guys think of these answers?:flag:

I agree with all of the choices for American symbols, except for McDonald's, of course!!!
I'm not surprised by the three choices of countries to live in either other than the USA... Canada, Great Britain and Australia are tops!
When I think of America as a tourist and a neighbour I think of...
Friendship
Beauty
Disney Land (The Icon for a Kid)
I-75 to Florida
Howard Johnsons (old 70s style orange roofs)
Statue of Liberty
Peace Bridge
Grand Canyon
Breaking the sound barrier....
McDonald's?!?! I think some people must have their heads up their behinds.
Wonder why no one chose the Liberty Bell, or the Declaration of Independence? There are so many hallmarks of American culture, though, that I bet it would be hard to choose.
I'd choose Canada or Australia if I had to leave here....there seems to be a lot of great people from those countries!! :D

Val... you're being way too nice with your language here
...Let us know what you really want to call those people. ;)
I can't, Tazzy!! ;) What if someone from the Xchange voted, and then they think that I think they're a nincompoop?!?
Oooooopsie!!!
lol You're funny sis. :)
Some interesting info though. I think of the White House personally. Just what first comes to my mind.
McDonalds should NOT be on that list though!!!! ;)

Hmmm... You do know of course that I only live a couple of hours from there. don't you? :D I'm actually going up there agan in about two weeks. My sister is flying in, so I booked a cabin at the canyon for the weekend. Can't wait. That place is so beautiful that it just can't be described in words.
Canada, Australia or Great Britain? I would have to say any of them. A friend of mine in college was from Canada and he made it sound great. I would definitely like to visit there someday.
I have an uncle that lives in Australia and have always thought it would be a beautiful country. I would have to do two things if I ever go there though. One is to meet Mick Doohan and get his autograph (the world's greatest superbike driver :thumb: ) and the other would be to watch a taping of "The Crocodile Hunter" so that I just might get to see Steve Irwin actually get bitten!
Britain? Heck. I'm half-British so I just have a boat load of family there that I could mooch off of. :D I bet I could spend a year just bouncing from one family member to the next and never have to work.

If I could live anywhere else it would definatly be Scotland for me!
And McDonalds should be an American symbol,it symbolizes the American dream perfectly,2 Scottish brothers open a berger joint with dreams of wealth and are screwed out of it by a man named Ray Croc who licensed their name and made a fortune!!:D

another important element of the American dream is, I think the constitution and the greencard ( especially for the foreigners).
My favourite symbol is the spreading eagle
(the seal for the american dream, too).
Franklin`s face is the most important element (I think!!) and another favourite symbol (more than Washington, they are still doing the job!)
........the road 66!
I like the MC Donalds special offers ( so let the widow of MC Donalds donate some more millions to the salvation army)
Keep America alive and show what to do!
:) :D
