OK, everyone remembers the great album "Control" from 1986 but do you remember her early 80's stuff. She charted 5 top 40 R&B hits between 1982-1985. Her first release was "Young love" a #6 R&B hit and one of my favorite early Janet songs. I also really liked "Dream street" which amazingly didn't chart but had a video. "Don't stand another chance" also hit the top 10 in the R&B charts going to #9. THEN.....she hit it BIG in 1986. 5 of the 6 singles from Control went to #1 on the R&B charts. Funny enough, her first #1 on the pop charts was the only one not to go to #1 on the R&B charts, that would be "When I think of you". She continued her sucess in 1989 with "Rhythm nation 1814" with one more 80's #1 in "Miss you much" and more singles released in 1990. She of course is the hottest thing in music today IMO. What do you think?
I like Janet and I remember her early hits as well. I think she is very underrated even though she is very popular. Her voice is great and most of her productions are really well produced. She is such a great influence for dance music and R&B. Good topic, DJ. :thumb:

I first heard of Janet when Control first appeared. And Wow was I blown away. From the Start her infectious Pop Music, coupled with State of the Art (for their time) Videos made her one of my favourite artists. I love Rhythm Nation 1814 and the self titled album Janet. They would be my favourites

I had "Control" which really is a great album. I also loved her collaboration with Herb Alpert for "Diamonds". Unfortunately, my interest in Janet waned after that.
I have always liked Janet Jackson. I learned how to dance from her. I would always watch her videos and mimic everything she did. My mother always allowed me to listen to her because to her Janet was innocent enough.
Innocent" is not a word that has been attached to Janet Jackson's music of late -- ever since 1993's "Janet" album, her lyrics have displayed startling sexual frankness. And yet while her songs have often been raunchier than Madonna's, Jackson's image retains a certain wholesome quality. Perhaps it's because of the inherent sweetness of her voice, or perhaps it's the power of first impressions. Aside from some early performances with her famous siblings, Janet's first real introduction to the public came via roles on the sitcom "Good Times," in the late '70s, and then "Diff'rent Strokes," in the early '80s. That initial clean-cut image has subsequently allowed her to explore the subject of sexual pleasure as the natural province of a mature young woman.
