View Full Version : ..... you rode your first carnival ride?
I took my son to the local carnival here in town; and it brought back some wonderful memories for me.
I remember my first ride. The carnival came to our small town in INDIANa.
The ride was called the
Squirrel Cage.. I was actually to short to ride it but like you know those "carnival people" don't pay much attention to the rules. I was on the ride with some boy he of course was experienced i on the other hand was scared to death :vibrator: but I had to prove to my sister and brother that i was tough
A few seconds in the ride I :barf: all over the place
Then the boy started to :barf: I was horrified :( I thought they were going to kick me out of the Carnival.. and I was scared I was going to get beat up by the boy. I didn't get in trouble the guy who was running it just put a
BROKE sticker on that cart and just laughed at me.
Next time I wont eat so many corn dogs
LOSTNTHE80S 7-03-02, 03:06 PM Where was I when I rode my first carnival ride? I'm just taking a wild guess here..but I think I was at the Carnival! LOL! Sorry Milani..just couldn't resist. I think it was these little boats that went around in water that was about a foot and a half deep. I probably rode something earlier but that's about my first memory. The carnival is in our town too for a few days but I think tonight it's going to be wayyyy too hot. Thank you for sharing your memories with us. To be a kid again...ahhh.
ImSoooSure 7-04-02, 02:40 AM The first one I can remember was at Worlds Of Fun in Kansas City. Remember that place Greenway? I don't remember a Carnival ride but that's close. I always liked the bumper cars best. Still do!!!
80sTrivia 7-04-02, 08:29 AM I remember riding the carousel swing at Kings Island when I was about five or six years old. I also remember riding the kiddie rides at Santa Claus Land at around the same age or young and squealing with delight.
Ohio, 7years old, rode the Double Loop with my grandpa 8 times, one of the best days of my life....
Geauga Lake to be exact.......
The first one I actually remember was when I was 4 years old, and my dad and I went on the ferris wheel at Seaside Heights.
I have a pic of that somewhere. My dad took a pic of me when we got to the very top. I just remember it being so cool!
I also remember going on the Merry-go-Round. Also have a pic of that somewhere!
Iluvthe80s 8-24-02, 09:35 PM A traveling carnival comes through Austin every year. My first ride was a Merry Go Round. I can't remember how old I was though.
My first carnival ride was in Chicago at a park called Riverview which has been torn down some 35 years ago now. A friend of mine talked me into riding on the Parachutes. This ride had a chair for two to three people and had wires that pulled you up to some 90 feet (I think it was) and let you go. The chutes opened on the way down and you suddenly go from a fast drop to a calm drift to the ground.
Before we were going to go on this ride my freind kept saying that he'd been on the ride a million times and that it was nothing to worry about........then as we were getting strapped into the chair my friend starts to beg the guy to let him off.....he was NEVER on the ride before this I found out and I could've choked him at that point. The guy that was running the ride finally let my friend off....AFTER we came back down to the ground!!!
Shortie Blonde 8-24-02, 10:20 PM I've never been to a "carnival" and I was never allowed to ride big rides at fairs. :( :p

We went to Santa's Village (http://www.santasvillage.com/), Story Land (http://www.storylandnh.com/), (both North Conway, NH area) Riverside, and Lake George for vacations in the 80s, so I spent a lot of time on the kiddie rides
I had a really bad experience on the bumper cars at Santa's Village when I was little. Maybe 5 or 6. My stepbrother hit me head-on, and I started screaming like I was being murdered. They had to shut the whole ride down to get me out. (where is the cry-baby smiley? )
Last weekend, my mom & I were at the county fair near where I grew up, and she was razzing me about the bumper cars! Mean mama!
I have also been thrown up on in the Gravitron (by my other stepbrother) and stuck at the top of one of those icky upside-down ferris wheel thingies. (the Zipper??) I get motion sick now, so I can't go on anything like that anymore.
The Tilt-A-Whirl is about as wild as I get. :1offwall:

Oh gawd those bumper cars there are terrible. I got nailed in them once and I balled my eyes out like you.
yep i was six, my family decided to spend the day @ the Westchester County Fair ( if you live in NYC or Westchester county this is a must even if it is really crappy), my cousin chris wanted me to go on the Twister. i wasn't that bad when it was just going around then it went faster, backwards, and even faster by the time the ride was over i :barf: in the garbage can. but that's still my favorite ride. :D

OK, rant over ;) Glad you understood me Shortie
RainbowJemPony 9-06-02, 05:19 PM Hmmmm...I guess mine would be when I was 7 or 8, and I rode the kiddie scrambler....I absolutely loved that ride, and was even more thrilled to ride the one for the adults...

PontiacKendall 4-05-04, 01:39 AM I don't remember if it was my first carnival ride but I sure thought it was going to be my last. We were visiting my grandparents in Chicago and there was a little parking lot carnival up there. The ride of choice for my sister was the dreaded 'Octopus'. This thing must have had 20 arms, each with a little seat at the end of it where people were supposed to sit. After hearing enough insults about my manhood (I wasn't even 10 yet) I decided to get on. The only thing that held us in was a slippery metal bar that went across our waist. Everything was going ok until they decided to stop the ride and let some other folks get on. Unfortunately, when they stopped it we were positioned in an angled position pointing down and to this day I don't know how I didn't fall out. When they restarted the ride I screamed at the guy running it every time we went by him and hollered for him to stop and let me off. Of course he didn't and I haven't gotten on a carnival ride since. And insults to my manhood won't change my mind. :bigcry:
ILovethe80s 6-19-04, 04:27 AM My dad used to work at carnivals and such, so I was probably about 4 when I first went on a ride. The first one I remember vividly is those little cars that can sit 2 kids in them and they have a steering wheel and just go in circles, LOL I used to yell out 'Daddy! Watch Me!' LMAO
Love,
Mary
