I was introduced to this lady with the truly wonderful song "you know how to love me". I know that this particular track was released in 1979 but I believe she had some material in the 80's. Can anyone help me with some info or some recommendations about her music?

Phylis charted 26 songs on the US R&B charts between 1976-1998. she was born in 1950 in Philadelphia and later moved to Pittsburgh (a fellow Pennsylvanian :) )She commited suicide in 1995. She was a singer, actress and model. Her biggest R&B hit was 1991's "Don't wanna change the world" it went to #1. I don't have anything by her but now I know what I'm gonna look for next time I buy CD's :)

No probs DJ. I think she's a classy singer. I actually heard the track "You know how to love me "on a House music mix. And I just had to find the track which led me to her music. Fabulous!

I was listening to this again today, man she sounds a lot like Dionne Warwick! That is a good thing in my mind, she has a wonderful smooth jazz styling to her songs too.
Phyllis were indeed a class act, capable of singing both R&B and jazz. She lived a very troubled life and we lost her way too early but thankfully she left some outstanding music behind.
The 70s work she did as a vocalist for drummer Norman Conners are worth recommending. Songs like "Betcha By Golly Now" & "You Are My Starship".
A good 80s album is "Living All Alone" (1987) including the wonderful "Ain't You Had Enough Love".
Unfortunately Phyllis Hyman never made it to the big league of R&B singers like Aretha or Chaka Khan (commercially that is). Sad really, 'cause if anybody deserved it she defenitely did.
