He was the former lead singer of Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes (who did the original version of "If you don't know me by now"). His biggest R&B hit came in 1978 with "Close the door" which was #1 for 2 weeks, but he started the 80's with a bang. 5 straight top ten R&B hits including my personal favorite "Love TKO" and his duet with Stephanie Mills called "Two hearts". In 1983 he was in an auto accident that left him partially paralyzed but that didn't stop him from recording great music as his career lasted well into the 90's. He also is featured on Whitney Houston's very first single, "Hold me" a #5 R&B hit. In my opinion he is one of the greatest R&B singers of all time. His voice is soothing and is great to listen to when romancing your lover. If you have never heard Teddy I suggest you waste no time in buying his greatest hits collection. Are there any other Teddy Pendergrass fans out there?
