View Full Version : Morning Sickness... psychocandy 6-13-02, 01:20 PM Can any of the girls here who've been through this give me some ideas of what I can do to make this better? I can't keep anything down... :barf: :barf: :barf: sassy 6-13-02, 01:52 PM I have three kids so I know what you are going through. They tell you to eat crackers before you get out of bed. Well that doesn't help .. the only reason they tell you to eat crackers is because you need something to throw up other then stomach acid. You might want to ask your doctor what he can recommend .. but as long as you are gaining weight you are doing okay. So how far along are you? http://www.seaproductsonline.com/index64.html http://www.preggiepop.com/ http://health.yahoo.com/health/dc/003119/0.html Look at these sites.. they might help. First Steps to Relieve your Symptoms of morning sicknesss (NVP) Here are some tips to relieving your symptoms: Eat frequent small meals, for example, every 2 or 3 hours. Avoid strong odours. Get up slowly and do not lie down immediately after eating. Talk to your healthcare provider about your symptoms and how they affect you. He or she can prescribe the right medication to treat your nausea and/or vomiting and to prevent further complications. Eat dry crackers 15 minutes before getting up in the morning. Do not skip meals needlessly. Drink fluids ˝ hour before a meal or ˝ hour after a meal. Do not drink during your meal. Drink enough liquid during the day to avoid dehydration. Do not hesitate to eat what you want when you want it, even if you are craving foods that are not part of your regular diet. Try eating cold food instead of hot (cold food does not smell as much). If odours bother you while cooking, try to have good ventilation in the kitchen. If it is possible, ask for help in food preparation. NVP may worsen when you get tired. Try to get more rest. Take naps during the day if possible. If you decide to take medication for your NVP, there is a safe and effective one available in Canada, DiclectinŽ (a combination of vitamin B6 and an antihistamine, doxylamine), that can be prescribed especially for your NVP by your healthcare provider. Greenway88 6-13-02, 01:53 PM The cracker thing didn't work for my wife either. I think ginger tea helped her a little, though nothing really made a big difference. sassy 6-13-02, 01:55 PM It is just one joy of being pregnant. I couldn't stand the smell of hot dogs cooking.. I would throw up on the spot.. didn't matter where.. :yucky: Kayenne 6-13-02, 01:57 PM Should I be taking notes for later? :D sassy 6-13-02, 01:59 PM AWWWWW Yea you should :D You can never be to prepared :D Kayenne 6-13-02, 02:01 PM I don't think anything could prepare me for that experience...not truly..... It just blows my mind..... :) psychocandy 6-13-02, 02:01 PM I'm about 4 months along, due mid-October. I have been throwing up non-stop for almost 3- I've actually LOST seven lbs. My doctor gave me some medicine that's supposed to make me less nauseous, but it doesn't seem to help much. He's been giving me shots for vitamins and stuff, so that I can get the nutrients I need, since I can't keep food down. This sucks!! OMG, the smells... things bother me I didn't even know HAD smells! Kayenne 6-13-02, 02:06 PM Ah...hope you manage to do something about it....in the meantime....lucky you...a child born in October - now there's a blessing! Oh did I mention that I'm a Libra..??;) sassy 6-13-02, 02:07 PM Try and avoid cooked foods since they have alot of smell and just eat cold foods for awhile. If you find something that doesn't make you ill eat that over and over again. To put weight back on.. eat breads.. plenty of carbs!! Oatmeal will help you gain it. Good luck!!! If you dont' gain weight he will admitt you to the hospital.. so eat up!! psychocandy 6-13-02, 02:12 PM I always wanted an autumn baby- I just couldn't see being nine months preggers in the middle of July... sassy 6-13-02, 02:15 PM It is rough to have a child then it is to darn hot! And when you are that big well nothing keeps you cool. Mine were born in July September and February.. the last one was more tolerable. Kayenne 6-13-02, 02:18 PM *takes notes* Make sure to time birth of baby....... As I'll probably look like a cross between a whale and an elephant I'm going to have my (eventual) babies in the spring or in the autumn..... Flix 6-13-02, 02:20 PM Originally posted by Kayenne *takes notes* Make sure to time birth of baby....... TAKES NOTES??? *joins the foreign legion* ;) Kayenne 6-13-02, 02:22 PM Hey!!! :hammer: Stay where you are you coward! I'm sure you'd LOVE to have a :baby: psychocandy 6-13-02, 02:38 PM You guys are funny!! Kayene, I've seen your pics, and I don't think you have to worry about looking like a whale! Well, look at the bright side- I've lost 7 lbs AND my boobs got bigger. Can't bitch about that!! :D sassy 6-13-02, 02:44 PM Just wait . you are only 4 months. Soon you wont be able to see your feet  LOSTNTHE80S 6-13-02, 04:13 PM First of all......CONGRATS! :) I've had three kids and tried every trick in the book, my best advice...(serious here..it worked for me) just eat. Eat anything. I didn't have any sickness with my third one but man, is she making me pay now! LOL! good luck with everything. Tinajo 6-14-02, 10:47 PM Wow.. congrats!!! I made it to almost 4 months before I lost my baby... but I never had a day of morning sickness.. always felt great... I'm wondering if my miscarriage had something to do with not feeling sick  my doctors were not helpful at all in the situation... next time, I'm getting a female doctor!! No other way around it! Male doctors are insensitive pigs! (Wow.. sorry 'bout the rant) Sounds like eating lots will help... Milani mentioned oatmeal.. That sounds like something that won't have a strong smell that will give you nutrition.. Good luck!! Kayenne!! What are you up to, girl? Flix.. it sounds like no good! psychocandy 6-14-02, 11:40 PM Tinajo, I'm so sorry. :( I'm at 14 weeks right now, I found out today. I'm not sure, but I might be able to understand how you feel soon. Today, I ate some farina without incident, which I thought was a good sign, but I had an appointment with my OB-GYN today for an ultrasound, and there seems to be a problem. I don't know if it's appropriate to talk about it here, but it looks like I'm going to the hospital Monday. Kayenne 6-15-02, 05:55 AM Oh :( I'm so sorry to hear that! Try not to worry too much about it until you go in on Monday. I'll keep my fingers crossed and my thoughts and prayers will be with you! {hug} psychocandy 6-15-02, 10:16 AM Thanks, Kayenne. I needed that hug!! :) Lucky for me, my boyfriend's sister is a nurse at a women's clinic. I was pretty upset last night, so she spoke to my doctor with me this morning, and I know a little better what is going on now. I have a fairly common problem, which is that my cervix is too short. This often causes a miscarriage, so to prevent this from happening, they're going to put in a circlage, which is a suture in the cervix. It is about 90% successful in preventing preterm delivery. So everything should be fine. BTW, I seem to be doing well with oatmeal, thanks to Milani, and the ginger tea that Steve suggested helps the nausea a bit. Thanks for the sage advice!! sassy 6-15-02, 10:32 PM First I want to give Tinajo a hug * hug * I am so sorry! I know how that feels :( I am sorry girl.. and I know you will have another child and it will be blessed to have a mother like you. Oatmeal is good for you so keep doing it. You will have this child.. and it will be healthy.. just keep thinking these things. I have three wonderful... precious boys.. they are my life. But I had to loose 2 to get my Logan.. my younger child. I know how it feels to loose a baby. I know how bad it feels.. :( Take care of yourself. |
