View Full Version : Anime
I want that box set too, Dan. I just think it is too expensive.
Have you seen Serial Experiments: Lain? That was one of the best anime series I have ever seen. The plot was great and the animation looked cool.
Please let me know if you can recommend something else? I am still a novice when it comes to anime.
Oh can I ever!:D :D Well if you want a more 80's anime I would go with robotech. Very good and if you watch this you can't go wrong. For the more current ones I would go with Soul Hunter. It's the new one that I am collecting. Its about the human and Senin(heaven world). Takibou(tyke-a-bo) is summoned by the head of mount Kunlun(coon-loon) and is giving the
Housin(ho-shine) project. He then must kill all the names on the list and defeat Daki. I think this anime is awesome. If offers alot of action with the great story line. There are two parts to the show. Takibous part mainly battles, gathering allies ect... and then there is the part where its just telling of how things are happenig at emporers castle. I think its worth the money to buy it. I have already watched it twice. Its around 30 for 4 episodes and the first has 5 episodes. It has about 6-7 volumes. There is so much more. I have just scratched the surface of my knowledge. I have seen over 7,760 hours of anime watching over 40 movies and many series. Pippi you should watch adult swim saturday nights on cartoon network. It has Yu Yu Hakiso, and gundam 0083. You probably already seen them scine cow boy bee bop is on that night as well.
One more moive i will put in the post. Ghost in the shell. ONe fo the most greatest movies ever!:hammer: I have watched this many times and need to buy the dvd for a better quality version and so I can get the extras. Well done, beautful animation, awesome story line and suspense will keep you on the edge. Its a classic. Get the dvd and you will not be sorry. The only thing wrong about it is that its really not long only like an hour or so. Ill stop talking and post a few more things tomorrow, so you can read this.
I have watched those on Cartoon Network a lot. I like Gundam too. I never liked Robotech though.
I absolutely love Ghost In The Shell. It was one of those DVD's that I bought as soon as I saw it come out. It is one of my favorite movies along with Akira and Golgo 13.
I will look after some of your other recommendations. I am looking forward to more, Dan. Thank you. :* :)
Huh? Never saw Golgo 13. Ok the next anime I have watched that one. I think the next one I shall talk about is Ruin Explorers. I have only watched the first two of the series. From what I saw it was well done. It is about two girls who explore ruins for treasure for a living. One has magical powers that she uses to make "spirit friends". She doesn't like to use black magic. The other can't use magic. This is because her mentor cursed her. Now they search for the relic that will cure her while they make their money. They start of with many enemies and not to ruin anything I won't say anything more. But it is a good buy.
Steel Angel Kurmi is a new Adv. film. This is about a robotic girl who is awakened by a young trainee of Zen Buddhism. It is very well done with great animation good sounds and awesome music. It starts off with one steel angel and more soon arrive. The only problem I saw with this is that its really short. They say they have six episodes and they do but they are really short. They episodes are like 10-12 minutes long. But since you get 6 in runs to 3 episodes making the running time 90 minutes. Lots of good voice over and Claudia black (Areyan Sun on Farscape) is on the next dvd. I would buy this if you don't know what to buy.
The next one is Ninja Scroll this one great movie. Action and suspense are quite common and abundant in this movie. Fight scenes are awesome and the story of it is just as exciting. The animation is a little bit older but still good. I want to buy this sometime in the future.
If your a fan of comedy anime then this is for you. Excel Saga is quite funny. I have not own it (yet) but I will own in June when the first volume comes out. Many laws are gonna be shown with this anime. The characters are gonna look crazy as well. The lead forgot her name is a indestructible robot and is often comic relief for her boss. The one for the blue hair is often sick, and an alien. There is a guy with a rotating mustache and a guy with a huge fro in which he can store things in the fro, like weapons. Its a must see if you like anime comedy.
Armitage 3- What a splendid movie. This is one helluva good movie. Armitage is a girl cyborg and found out that she was one a while ago. She fights crime and all that. Soon meets up with a detective guy and they fight the bed guys. Action packed and quite good. Animation top notch, with good voice over. I have watched this twice and It gets better each time.
That's it for now I need to draw up some notes for next review
Next Review-Orphen, Tenchi Muyio in love, Phantom Quest Corp, ect...
Also Pippi go here to learn the laws of anime. You probably know some but it always helps to study.

:D
I just saw Ninja Scroll in my local comic book store. I will go pick up the DVD tomorrow, Dan. I will have to look for the Steel Angel one.
I should warn you that I am not crazy about the comedies. They are not very funny and the animation is usually very poor.
Do you know a movie titled Blood? It is supposedly very good. I would like to hear another opinion before buying it.
I like comedies but thats why anime is so great so many types for differnt people. I never heard of blood. Yeah ninja scroll is a definante buy.
I got Ninja Scroll and Armitage 3 on your recommendation, Dan.
I really liked both of them. Armitage 3 looked really great and the story was really exciting.
The animation of Ninja Scroll was, as you mentioned, not as good but it was full of action. I sort of hoped it would not end, but that is a sign that you enjoyed the movie.
I have not been able to find more of the things you recommended, but I wrote them down. Please let me know if there are other movies/series you like and can recommend.
Ok here is some more reviews I made.
Oprhen-
This series is one of the best I have seen in awhile. It has excellent animation, good characters and plot. There are three main characters and three others that are the bad guys. Oprhen is the main character and was well an orphen. He and Azile came to the tower of fang when they were like 5 or 6. He is searching for a way to cure her as she is cursed and became a dragon. He also must fight his former allies, the tower of fang as he must save her and avoid them.
majic is a boy he meet in a town one day with stephanie. I forgot the name of the town. He then is payed by majics father to teach him. They leave after the first dvd and they travel to rescue azile from her curse. He is a young appretince that is just starting to learn the basics.
Cleao is the rich girl Orphen meets when he is keeping the huge sword of baltanders. She accuses him a peeping tom and tries to kill him. Later she joins up with him in the adventure.
Your should definetly buy this anime So far there is like 5 discs out and its just an amzing anime. If you get any new ones get this.
OK next one is
Phantom Quest Corp.
This was the first dvd, not my first anime but my first dvd. It has alot of comdey and action. Aykia Kisargi is the president of a ghost buster business. She takes on vampires ghosts and demons. This is only one disc long and has four episodes. there was a promo disc but i couldnt find it. It is good and I would highly reccomend it.
Tenchi Muyio in Love
This one was on the sci fi channel. It was one of the first one was one of the first things I watched. It takes tenchi and the game back in time back when his mom and dad where in highschool. They must save his mom from dying from a unknown villain. Kain is going to try and kill her. So they need to rescue her. I love this movie and I would recomend you watch it if you havent already. It has a good cast, nice music, and has some good fights.
ok thats it for now.
I have watched a new anime. This one is called L.ain., or serial experiments Lain. Its pretty good. It got some ova awards and A nice opening credits. I have watched one and 1/2 episodes so fard and It think it quite good. It is much more of a thinking anime. I like it and I think you would to. I am watching Saber Marinjote J soon and will tell you of that.
Dan, I already mentioned Lain to you in my second post in this topic. ;) :D
It is really cool. I have seen it several times. It just sucks you right in, right?
Opps! I forgot you said that. Looks like you were right. It was boring and slow to pick up at first but now its getting good. I am gonna have to buy more of this series.
For another series that I would watch you should check out Slayers or Bubble gum criss (old version). I have heard many good things about the Slayers and I am going ot but it in 2 weeks.
Bubble gum crisis is great. The animation is older but story line and characters are great.
I looked at Slayers the other day. Let me know if you like it, Dan.
I just got the Neon Genesis Evangelion boxset today. It is more than 11 hours, so it will keep me busy for a while. It is supposedly really really good.
I will tell you how good it is in two weeks maybe even one week. With School ending and me getting more hours at mcdonalds, and getting money rom graduation party I am gonna buy several box sets including Slayers and Neon Evangieon box set. And yes It is one of the greatest anime series of all time and I hope it is one of the best ones because I am gonna buy it.
Have I mentioned Aria:Zenom The Animation. It is the first anime I saw besides voltron and RoboTech. It is a must see and they have several movies, and live action jappense movies.
That I would say would be a great pick for any collection.
You can look forward to Neon Genesis Evangelion. I watched three episodes today and it is really really good.
I will look for Aria tomorrow.
Can't wiat to get it. After Aria if you want a classic try venus and mars wars I thought it interesting but you may find it boring. The quality of anime was ok but was good for the time period.
wavemaster 6-12-02, 12:09 AM Boy, Dan...have I told you that you could become one of my closest friends, after seeing that you have an impressing stock of animes? ;)
I like animes, too - unfortunately, the DVDs are pretty expensive here (apart from the fact that I can hardly afford any DVD right now :D), and I have stopped collecting movies on video tapes unless I can record them from TV. Here I'm more lucky - Vox (German TV station) is airing Anime Nights from time to time.
Among my faves are Akira (classic!), Ghost In The Shell (another classic ;)), Pat Labor, Riding Bean, Little Plastic, Urotsodoji (I have probably spelled that wrong...my Japanese is a bit rusty ), Record Of Lodoss War...heck, I still have to search for a really bad movie within this genre. ;)
From the (more kid-orientated) series shown on TV, I do favour Saber Rider, "classic" Transformers (can't stand the newer computer-animated series "Beast War") and Ranma 1/2 (it's actually good for a few chuckles :D).
Oh yeah we should get close very close. I have lots of anime. I have the first four vidoes of dragon ball the first 8 episodes. I have Macross 2 lovers again, ghost in the shell, princess monoke,Soul hunter voulmes 1-4(17-18 episodes),Phantom quest corp(4 episodes),Tenchi the movie 1 and 2, Steel angel kurimi(6 episodes), Serial experimnets Lain(4 episodes)Legend of crystania(3 episodes), AH my godess, ect... I have more just cant remember them all thats around what I have. I am buying the entire box sets of slayers cow boy beebop and Neon Genis evangelion in less than two weeks. I should go over and share the anime with pippi. I dont think she would mind if I brought over my entire collection and those box sets. I love anime. I have watche dover 7,600 hours I think.
Is this open for anyone to take a crack at?

I have so much more but I can't remember it all and I don't want to confuse anything I own with stuff I've only watched. This is making me realize though i should create an inventory list. This way I can finally plug some holes in it.
PiPPi's back... OOOOHHH pippi how I have wanted to meet you.
heheheheheh!!! I only did that to razz you sweety!!!
MMMMMMMMMLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAA:tease:
angel92501 7-16-04, 10:43 PM at the risk of having my head bitten off...have any of you guys ever watched Inu Yasha? (do not yell at me im only recently getting into anime so i know nothing about what some people consider good) i really like it, its sometimes cheesy and its not really bloody, which a lot of people have told me that they really like when it is bloody. but, if youre looking for a good story i think Inu Yasha is pretty good..oh and i also like Witch Hunter: Robin. it starts off really slow, i didnt get into it until the 5th or 6th episode and again its not at all bloody but the story is ok. ive been reading everyones recomendations (is that a word? sounds funny) so hopefully soon ill have something more interesting to talk about. lol oh yeah, Pippi were u talking about Blood: The Last Vampire? my brother told me that one was REALLY good, its on my list too :)
I didn't like Inu Yasha.
I agree- Witch Hunter: Robin was interesting but slow at developing. And after all that way the cilmax and secret plot wasn't very thrilling. If a story takes that long to unfold it should be worth the wait.
Why does anime need blood in it?
angel92501 7-18-04, 06:09 PM i dont know i dont particularly like a gory anime but i was surprised at how many people love watching animes with a lot of blood and stuff in it...
turboninja 8-19-04, 04:57 PM I love anime. My favorite anime now is Naruto it is the best anime I have ever seen. It has action, drama it has it all. How many episode was Guyver? I thought it was like 12 or so episodes, but I could be wrong. Inu Yasha was an o.k anime. It took a while to really get into it. If you want to watch anime don't I repeat don't watch it on Cartoon Network. I have them props for putting on the air. But after what they did to Dragon Ball Gt. They editted most of the series up. The first episode they show is really like the 10 episode. You can take the violence out of it, but when you start to cut up the story is where i draw the line.
if you liked DevilMan you should check out Hellsing.
DeloreanSteve 9-13-04, 12:52 AM I love anime :thumb: . As you can see by my avatar my very favorite anime is Cowboy Bebop. There are so many reasons why I love this anime. It reminds me a little of Star wars. Jet reminds me of my Dad, and I'm a little like Spike.
My other favorites are
TRIGUN
Robotech
Ninja Scroll
Nadesico
turboninja 9-13-04, 05:32 PM I wanted to see Nadesico for a while now. How many episodes is it? And is it really that good?
DeloreanSteve 9-13-04, 08:56 PM I loved it. It's 26 episodes long, and is basically a parady. It's like a cross between Robotech/Gundum and the Simpsons. Two of the Mech Pilots are Anime fans, and they keep talking about this one anime they love called "Gekki Ganger" which is basically an imitation of Mazinger Z. It's pretty funny.
turboninja 9-15-04, 05:38 PM I will have to buy it soon then. It sounds like excel saga. My friend has the whole series I only saw the first 4 and they were so funny.
I found tekkaman a couple days ago. I downloaded the first 16 ep and they were tight. I had forgotten how good it really was.
