The Transformers was the BEST cartoon of the 80's and still kicks ass today.

Yeah, I used to watch that a lot. I still have issue #1 of the comic book in good condition up in my attic. My toys didn't quite make it though...fell victim to not having enough storage space http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/frown.gif

I remember they even had a Transformers movie...that was pretty good.

I'll admit, The Transformers was--and still is--my favorite '80s-era cartoon. :)

December '84-September '85: WDBD-TV 40 aired Transformers every Sunday morning--from 8:30 to 9:00
September '85-September '86: WDBD aired Transformers every Monday through Friday afternon--from 3:00 to 3:30
September '86-September '87: WDBD aired Transformers every Monday through Friday morning--from 7:30 to 8:00
September '87-January '88(?): WDBD aired Transformers (its final season :() every Monday through Friday morning--from 6:30 to 7:00
September '88-January '89(?): WDBD aired Transfomers (all reruns...and Transformers: The Movie, broken down into a few TV-edited segments) every Sunday morning--from 8:30 to 9:00

(WDBD began brodcasting on December 27, 1984...and was the only Jackson station to ever carry Transformers.)

Chromia, Elita One, Firestar and Moonracer all appeared in only one episode of Transformers: The Search For Alpha Trion (from Transformers' '85-'86 TV season).

Arcee first appeared in the summer '86 animated blockbuster, Transformers: The Movie. She also appeared in Transformers' '86-'87 and '87-'88 TV seasons.

Beta appeared in at least one episode of The Transformers '86-'87 season.

Welcome to the madness! I'm so glad to have another cartoon buff on board. My toon obsessions are Voltron, Wildfire, Blackstar, Dungeons and Dragons, and JEM, but I watched a whole lot of Transformers too. Such a well-written show with real character development.

If I still had my original, diecast Sideswipe, I'd be the happiest woman in Rhode Island. Whatever happened to my Sideswipe??

Hey, I bet you know where you can buy those great Autobot/Decepticon car window stickers.... I want one for my Corolla! hehehe

Robots In Disguise debuts on Fox Saturday, September 8th.

In Marvel Comics' 1984-1991 Transformers series, Optimus Prime was a Powermaster. He became a Powermaster way back in Transformers #42 (cover-dated July '88). :D

Also in that same Transformers series, Optimus Prime had died twice--in issues 24 and 76 (cover-dated January '87 and March '91, respectively). :( :(

Yes, I have watched many other '80s toy-inspired, blockbuster cartoons (there're just too many to mention)! But Transformers was (and still is) my favorite! :) :)

Hey, I found a place to get those stickers cheap... the Decepticon sticker is way cooler, but I'm going to buy the Autobot anyway since I've always wanted to call my little red car "Sideswipe." Hehe.

Can someone confirm something for me?

Did the toyline for the Transformers come out before the TV series? I seem to remember the toyline came out in '83, then the series came out in '84. But I my memory is so hazy, I can't recall.

You know I don't feel so bad now. I'm not your age, I'm a bit younger, I was 8, 9 years old when the TV series came out in '84.

However, for the longest time I've been feeling like I was one of the older Transformer fans. You don't think of such things when you're 8 or 9, you're just a little kid that loves the show and the toys. And me and my best friend were completely immersed into the series, the toys and the comics. We would have long discussions about each episode, each toy and all the comics.

Then the freaking movie came out in 1986 and we were so pumped up, we felt like our whole lives revolved around seeing that movie. But by then we were about 10, 11 years old-----and basically I remember how it hit us that we were one of the older kids in the theater.....and that this was probably the last kid craze that we could most likely take part of----at least publicly without getting stares. There were a bunch of 3-6 year olds running around in the theater that wouldn't shut the hell up. To this day, whenever I talk Transformer talk, it seems like more then half the fanbase are more then 4 or 5 years younger then me and just barely saw the original run of the series or missed it entirely. They just remember the Movie from '86.

I don't mean to take pleasure in another fan being even older then I was, like you being 14 when the series came out in '84, but it's nice to know that I'm not always one of the "older fans".

:)

I've seen more Beast Wars (1996-2000) than Beast Machines (1998-2001). I liked Beast Wars more.

In both cartoons, each character is capable of transforming into an animal. But I liked Transformers (1984-1987), Transformers: The Movie (1986), and Transformers: Generation 2 (1993-1995) the best! :)

Vincent
3-22-02, 10:42 AM
^Yeah me too. But I've heard from several people who first watched the '80s toon, say that Beast Wars is a good show. Some even say that it suprasses the '80s version.....if that's even possible.....

and these are fans who watched Generation 1 Transformers first back in the '80s, not some little kid saying it.

A couple friends of mine used to watch "Transformers" everyday after high school! Julie's house would be the place to be after school, and no interruptions for that 1/2 hour!

I was glad to see that there is still an overwhelming demand for the show and it's merchandise. In fact, Season One of the show will be released on DVD this year! This show is truly an 80's institution! :thumb:

Vincent
3-29-02, 03:35 PM
^It's definately an '80s institution! Transformers is just as '80s as ALF, Mr. T, Punky Brewster or KITT!! And you're never too old to get into these things, I'm in my 20s, and I watch Pokemon regurlarly! Though Pokemon can't touch any of the '80s toons!! :)

The toy industry has always tried to reproduce the success of the '80s crazes. Transformers has been brought back many times in the '90s, and now in the '00s, with lukewarm results.

Transformers: Armada recently made its debut on Cartoon Network.

Armada is aired three times a week on Cartoon Network.

Friday--5:30-6:00 pm
Saturday--12:30-1:00 pm and 9:30-10:00 pm
(all times Central)

I think Armada is a weekly series...for now.

There was an episode of Transformers where a "mysterious" (JEEZ. We all knew who it was from the beginning!) stranger with a raspy voice was involved in turning a few of them (Rodimus, Springer, R.C.) into "humans" (synthoids actually :) ). At the end, he gave this yell "Cobra!".... before falling into a coughing fit! My, things must've really gone downhill for Cobra, huh? ;)

In any case, that episode caught my attention because, aside from reporter Hector Ramirez and Dinosaur/Dinobot Island, it was a sign of the connection between the "Hasbroverse" series of toons thru the art of the crossover (interesting link here: http://www.jemunlimited.com/oneworld.htm).

Funny, weird,.... or am I just reading more into this than what's there  ???? You be the judge! :mwaha:

JS
7-26-04, 10:28 PM
That episode was "Only Human" (1986).

And the "guest" star was really Cobra Commander--nicknamed "Snake" in that episode.

Arcee, Rodimus Prime, Springer and Ultra Magnus were caught in a trap devised by Snake, who was in cahoots with crimelord Victor Drath. Drath wanted to get even with the Autobots because they interfered with an theft in progress, so he summoned Snake--and together, they came up with a plan.

The four Autobots' souls had been extracted and put into synthoid bodies--while their real bodies were used by Drath's men in various criminal activites. Drath even had plans to destroy Autobot City with explosives packed in crates, and placed at the entrance!

But, fortunately, the other Autobots--in cooperation with local police--halted Drath and Snake's plan to destroy Autobot City. And Arcee, Rodimus Prime, Springer and Ultra Magnus were reunited with their real bodies.
