If there was one show I loved more than any other in the 80s it was this one. Waldorf & Stadtler, Swedish Chef, Pigs In Space, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker, Sam the Eagle, Gonzo, Animal, The Electric Mayhem Band, Fozzie, Kermit, Miss piggy, Scooter, Rowlf, the newsreader, the mad bomber, and many more. Ah, the memories. I also remember some of the guests like Elton John, Leo Sayer, Madeline Kahn, Vincent Price, Dolly Parton and more.

I liked when they would dance in the ballroom and each couple would tell a joke. The best was the two snakes.

Snake1: Are we poisonous?
Snake2: Why?
Snake1: Because I just bit my tongue.

Animal Emergency Room or whatever it was called was also good. The quack who's gone to the dogs.

How about some Fozzie humor?

"I'm passing through London, England, Home of Big Ben. Which reminds me of a joke. What did Big Ben say to Little Ben? Give me a hand! Get it? A HAND! He's a CLOCK! Wocka wocka wocka!"...lol http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Or some Swedish Chef lingo:

"Øder tis moodle in der noggin tu smacken der ouchey und vinger-slingers ur to smacken-backen und fix de morkin, yøobetcha!"

In DC, there is a weird network called Odessey (some sort of effort between Hallmark and Henson Productions or something along those line). Anyway, they play the Muppet Show every night. The best part is seeing what star of yesteryear is hosting. It's usually Rich Little or Beverly Sills.

The Muppet Show rules!!!!! I remember when they had Alice Cooper, Lynda Carter (Miss Piggy wanted to be Wonder Woman), John Denver, the cast from Star Wars, etc.

Remember "Pigs In Space"?

I also loved Fraggle Rock!

I was one of many who cried when creator Jim Henson died. He brought joy & laughter to millions & his creations still do the same today. I wasn't close to my family at all so the Muppets were one of my very few good memories from my younger days.

I cried too when I heard that Jim Henson died. Wasn't that back in '91? What a loss! I was devastated. Oh, does anyone remember The Storyteller? I loved that! They repeat it over here quite a bit.
I also remember the show with Alice Cooper in it. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Jim Henson was a genius, definately! I did a speech on him last year for US history, as my "Person of Influence" speech. I showed a clip from "The Muppet Show". http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif I remember exactly where I was when I heard he died, too... I was up in my room playing My Little Ponies, and my mom came in and told me the guy who played Kermit was dead. I cried. But just think of the influence he has had on our culture! It's awesome. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Oh, and I forgot. My favorite was Gonzo. I just thought it was the funniest thing that he had a chicken named Camilla. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif Right after Gonzo was Kermit... Kermit's the man lol.

My favorites on the Muppet Show was Dr. Teeth and his band, The Elecric Mayhem. And the subtle humor of Rowlf the Dog. Rowlf never got his due after Jim Henson died.

Best Jim Henson movie: Labyrinth!

That one scared the bejesus out of me as a kid :D Not because of Alice Cooper, I liked Alice Cooper, but because Gonzo sold his soul to the devil!

Time-Life sells the Muppet Show on DVD and VHS now... the full DVD set is on my Christmas list already! Hehe.

I have a picture from the Muppet Movie up on my desktop... I get lots of compliments on it at work.

In the pub last night we heard "When I Need You" or whatever it's called by Leo Sayer. We were discussing his performance of that song on the Muppet Show. But we couldn't decide if he was a telephone repairman on a pole or a lumberjack on a tree. Can anyone clarify for me?

My favourites were always Beaker and the Swedish Chef. Dr. Bob was good too - "the continuing stoooooory...." :D

Oh yeah, and also Piiiiiigs Iiiiiiin Spaaaaace.

This was one of my favorites too.

I remember Leo Sayer very distinctly being up on some kind of pole singing. It seems to me like he was a repairman of some sort, but I'm not sure at all. You'll have to check back with Mary C. after she gets her DVDs for Christmas :D .

My grandmother was Swedish, and my sister and I loved to cook pretending we were the Swedish chef. We were sure he was a distant relative. My grandma never quite got the humor of him 'tho.

'Kay, I have some answers for you Bogie dear....
http://www.fernsehserien.de/fs.php3?sendung=464

It's episode 50... and it's in German :o I don't speak German, but I have run it through trusty Babelfish. Maybe Wavey could check it for us? :D

Leo Sayer, an American Popsaenger, has the luck to be this time guest in the Muppet Show. Because today a charming, innocent, sweet recent thing has its debut named Annie Sue as a singer. All like Annie Sue, only measure Piggy is rather verschnupft over the presence of the erfrischenden young lady. Without on the oppressive atmosphere to noted, Leo Sayer " You Make ME Feel sings left Dancing " with a troop of Go-Go-birds as well as " When I Need You " in a tree in the midst of a forest decoration as well as forest animals and in the end " The Show Must Go on ".

LOL, gotta love Babelfish when you're stuck at work on a Friday afternoon. The German reviewer says it's a tree!

My faves were the Swedish Chef, Beeker and the cranky old guys in the balcony. They used to show the Muppet Show everyday on the Odyssey Network, but since it changed over to the Hallmark Network, I haven't seen it...

Okay...here´s the Bablewave translation version: :D

" Leo Sayer, an American pop artist, is the lucky one to be the guest of this episode. Because today, a young, charming and innocent thing named Annie Sue gives her debut. Everyone likes Annie Sue, only Miss Piggy is a mighty bit piqued about this refreshing young lady. Without paying attention to the depressing atmosphere, Leo Sayer intonates 'You Make Me Feel Like Dancing' with a group of Go-Go birds, 'When I Need You' amidst a forest decoration with some forestal animals in a tree and 'The Show Must Go On' at the end. "

Okay, I hope this is halfway correct... ;)

Here were two of my favorite episodes. One, Elton John singing "Crocodile rock" and two Alice Cooper singing "Welcome to my nightmare" and "You and me". As far as Dark Crystal is concerned, I have the complete trading card set.

How funny was it when Alice turned Miss Piggy into, well, whatever he turned her into!

Beeker is my and my wife's favorite. When we went to Disneyworld this year, they actually had a Beeker doll! Never saw one before, so you can bet we snatched it up! If you're ever in WDW, you HAVE to see "Muppetvision 3D" at MGM Studios! It's like being on the set of the Muppet Show!!! Highly recommended!

The "Bert is evil" site has been removed. The author explains why.

Anyhow, my favorite Muppet Show characters are: Waldorf and Stadtler (which up until now, I called "the old guys". Thank you for enlightening me on their actual names.) They always reminded me of my grandpa. He was very sarcastic and had quite a dry sense of humor.
I also really liked The Swedish Chef and also Animal.
