Cartoon Network has banned Speedy Gonzales. Seems that some people find him racially offensive. I just don't get it. I mean I love that little mouse and I'm 6th gereration Mexican-American. My whole family has Speedy hanging on their rear view mirrows. What's next? Banning Peppi La Pue because in someones eyes he's a stalker? In this world of being so pc, I do think that this is a bit much. Banning the mouse but yet Jerry Springer is still on the air.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I read something about this on a latin news site....they thought it was bs too....it doesn't seem to be the group that's bitching, it's the pc assclowns that assume it's wrong. If I say anything else, I'll have a bunch of ** censoring things the whole way through, so I'll end there...:lol:

Actually this debate has been going on since the 80's! I remember Speedy Gonzales and Taco Bell had some non PC overtones, or so some thought. I really find this amusing, I'm latin and don't take any offense to this. "Arriba, arriba, yepa, yepa, andale, andale!" :lol:

I just went to the website for the cartoon network. They have a place to leave feedback. Told them what I thought of their decision on this issue. Maybe other people should do this too.

Part of the charm and fun in cartoons is the way they can reflect and twist RL, sure they use stereotypes to achieve this goal, and so what ? Nothing's so serious that you can't make fun of it, and does this mean we should also stop making parodies of football fans, lawyers etc. It's the same difference, you take a stereotype from a demographic group and twsit it to make it laughable, it has nothing to do with hurting anybodys feelings or aiming to make anybody look bad .... It's common twists of our every day perception of life and people. Next thing you know we can't portrait japanese people with cameras and all smiling. Yes this is a stereotype too, not every japanese flashes his camera everywhere or runs around smiling all the time, we all know that, still it's funny when they are portraited that way .... Nothing mean in that .... Guess parodies in general should be outlawed then .... Rant over (for now)

I think that if you teach your kids right from wrong that no matter what they see they will know the difference. Same goes for reality vs fantasy. Too many parents who are copping out and rather than parenting they go for censoring.

Unfortunately, that's the way parenting today is being handled. Why should parents be concerned with protecting and teaching their children right from wrong when the government and its many branches are happy to step in and do that for them?
