View Full Version : Denmark vs. Senegal (Possible result inside)
I can't sleep. Only managed to get 4 hours of sleep this night as in about 4 hours and 30 minutes Denmark could be through to the 1/8 finals :goofy:
Hopefully there will be good news in this thread when the game ends :vibrator:
70 minutes until kickoff now and I am on the edge. This could be our day. Please don't force us to get points against France. That is too cruel.
Prefab Sprouter 6-06-02, 03:04 AM Go the Danes. You can do it. I know you can!
 The Senegal players played way too rough - should have had their no. 10 given a red card in the first half.
Also we were blatantly cheated for a goal for 2-0 when Jon Dahl scored - not using his hands. Talk about a poor ref :1pissed:
But - as the second half went, we should be glad for getting a point out of this match. I really felt we could lose it all after the first 30 minutes of the worst half I've seen in a long time on behalf of the Danes. Pure luck we didn't concede a goal.
Now we have to beat the French or at least get a point. This is going to be hard.
nolanbuc 6-06-02, 03:56 AM That does suck!:( I was rooting for the Danes in their group. Good luck against the French.
Can I add my..this totally sucks...to this?? OK thanks!!
IT TOTALLY SUCKS!! :)
Oh, yeah. I forgot my IT TOTALLY SUCKS!!!
There you have it ;)
space-invader 6-06-02, 06:39 AM i think the heat got to the players...lotsa short tempers
denmark played ok in the first half and were unlucky not to be 2-0 up
the danes were totally outplayed in the second half, and were lucky to only concede one goal
even in the last 10 minutes after the send-off, denmark did nothing
being a totally unbiased supporter, i thought a draw was a fair result
Prefab Sprouter 6-06-02, 07:40 AM Yeah Guys it sure sucks! At the end of the first half I thought Denmark had it all under control. I didnt see the 2nd half but caught the Sengal goal and I have to admit it looked Terrific.
Pity though. Mind you Thierry Henry has been sent off in their match with Uruguay just now so he'll be missing and with Zidane still doubtful France are looking very, very vulnerable! Denmark could still do it!
I was delighted with the Cameroon v Saudi Arabia result. Sets Ireland up nicely for the next match! :D
With Petit and Henry out, it still looks bad for the Danes. I hope Uruguay can squeeze in a goal in the last 10 minutes.
space-invader 6-06-02, 08:44 AM nope...that was an awful game really...so scrappy
if the ref was consistent, then he shoulda had 2 uruguay players sent off
make things interesting if france beat denmark 1-0 and uruguay beat senegal 1-0...all the teams would have the same points and goal difference!
it was nice to see the saudi's put up a much better fight too...that result may help ireland

That would be beautiful, because then Denmark would advance on more goals scored. That comes after goal difference. :) :D
80sSmurf 6-06-02, 12:18 PM Despite our poor effort today, the future still looks good for us. Drawing against France isn't impossible (even with Zidane in the match) .... I'm still positive :)
Of coz a lot of the players have to lift their standard so far, especially Henriksen, who has shown no authority or consistensy at all, and I'd like to see more of Sand ... The wingers and Tomasson is just not gonna cut it, if we wanna go far ....
I'd have liked to se how this match would've turned out if Fadiga had been given the red card and Tomassons goal allowed (2 incidents the ref misjudged big time  ) .... Again this is footbal, and we just have to live with a 1-1 draw, we don't have to like (and we don't) .....
Saw the game the other day (recorded it--it comes on at 2:30 in the morning) where I'm at!:D
I thought Senegal played way too rough. Their game IMO seemed to use more underhanded fouling tactics to goad Denmark into getting flustered.
I am impressed in the way Denmark is able to handle the ball, as well as their techniques and passing skills. I was also impressed the way Sorrenson went for 3 very good saves.
The one thing that puzzles me is when are penalty kicks given? I know Tommanson was given one because of a push behind the back by one of Senegal's players. However later in the game when Diao delivered the low tackle below the knee (a more serious injury and infraction), and got red-carded, why wouldn't a penalty kick be assessed then?
I'm used to watching basketball where if a player were deliver a foul (like Diao)like that, that person (who was injured) would automatically be given 2 free throws at the basket for an intentional foul (don't know if ejected--maybe if a fight broke out between players).
A penalty kick is only awarded inside the penalty box around the goal. Fouls committed anywhere else are awarded with a free kick. :) :)
80sSmurf 6-08-02, 12:06 PM Except if a player intentionally passes to his own keeper, and the keeper uses his hands, the you can actually get a free-kick inside the penalty box :p

Free kick...that was along the lines exactly of what I was looking for:) I assume it's almost the same as a penalty kick in as far as they're both free, just different circumstances.

Thanks for the tips:thumb:
So in other words, 1) a serious foul committed outside of the square box or 2) if a player intentionally passes to his goalie (without the use of hands) when his other teammates are open will result in a free kick for the other side.
Question: If Diao had committed that tackle inside the penalty box area, would Denmark have been awarded a penalty kick?

Yes. :) :)
Is my theory of how the game works so far been correct?
You are doing great, David. It is great that you even take the time to watch the World Cup. :) :*

I always thought soccer was an interesting sport to watch. The players and the referees seem to get along better in soccer than in basketball. That makes it even more entertaining to watch.
One more question: :D What is the purpose of the 3-minute clock after 45 minutes of regulation play? Any difference if a goal is scored in that time, etc. ?
The three minutes you are reffering to, is the extra time the referee has judged should be put onto the usual 45 minutes in a half, due to interruptions during the normal 45 minutes (Injuries, fouls comitted etc.) So it's not a static number - it could be from one to ? minutes, but usually around 2-5 extra minutes. There's no special rules in those minutes.
Thanks, Harket:thumb: That's the one thing that has always piqued my curiosity the most:)
And thanks to the everyone else for helping to answer my questions as well:) Now I'll have a better idea of what's going on:) Soccer is truly a fun sport to watch:thumb:
80sSmurf 6-08-02, 05:48 PM Well there's much more for you to learn young david :D
Different kinds of freekicks, cartain things you must do when making a throw-in and all the tactics in this game, but don't worry, you're making great progress :thumb:
