View Full Version : So I spent my early evening in jail

I just had an experience I felt like sharing with the rest of you. :)

I was on my way home early this afternoon and for once there wasn't a soul on the road. I'm leaving the US for good in less than three weeks, so I was thinkin' to myself...I wonder how fast this car can go?!?! Let me repeat...apart from like three cars, I was all alone on the road.

Soooooo....I sped up...and up...and next car I meet is a cop...who clocked me at 132.2 MpH or 212.7 KmH!!!! He was really REALLY pissed when he caught up with me. After cooling down he later admitted that he was almost shitting his pants when I blew by him!!

So I got arrested and taken in. I was extremely lucky, cause I know a million lawyers in D.C. so the cops actually ended up sending me home. The cop who arrested me was nice enough to let them know that I was all alone on the road. I will however go to court and that is gonna be expensive. Needless to say, my last two points on my license didn't quite cover the offense!!! ;)

I know most of you think it's nuts and that any US citizen would have gone to jail for that offense. It was too tempting with an open road and I will never do it again. It was bigger than me!!

I think I've had enough excitement for a decade now. Just had to share it!!

PS I have a fully equipped black 2001 Eclipse for sale cheap ;)

Oh, dear, Flix... Mr. Speed Demon you!!! You might want to save your speeding urges until you get to Europe, then you can cruise along the autobahn at top speed!!! Sorry about your unfortunate incarceration, Flix, but glad that you are okay!!! :)

Only 212? :D

Flix, I can understand you to a certain degree...it's pretty tempting to let your car go when you are living in a country with speed limits - I see this almost every day (especially during the holidays) when the Autobahns here turns into some kind of a pre-stage of the 24 hours of Le Mans. ;)

Any chances to get your license back within your lifespan?

Triv(ia)...well, Germany is known as the only country worldwide which doesn't know a speed limit for their Autobahns, but the reality is a bit different.
In fact, many sections are limited to speeds between 100 and 120 kph (62 - 75 mph), and the government has issued a general speed advice ("Richtgeschwindigkeit") of max. 130 kph (81 mph).
So...if you ever plan to visit Germany and you feel that certain itching in your right foot, better read the small signs with the allowed speed limit first (the cops here won't fall for the excuse "Reading the signs? At that speed?" )...

 Wrong place, wrong time... Sounds like it was fun though. I never got any of my cars faster than 115 mph.

Far out Flix!!, what an adventure. "There are flies on the windscreen for a start" (little DM quote there) The cops are just ALWAYS there at times like that huh? some of us have done unexplained things in cars from time to time. I remember a few years back coming home very late from a party with a friend, I chose a short cut and drove up a double lane (one way) road up the wrong way (only for about 100 meters to get to a side street) My friend said she felt like Smokey And The Bandit, but the laughs soon stopped when a cop pulled out of a side street and nabbed me. I too wore some of his saliva as he yelled at me - he was angry because he couldn't find what violation code to charge me with in his book - I just ended up with a big fine. It was such a stupid thing to do now that I think of it - it wasn't even fun, and it could've costed lives - I was young and stupid

Wow!!!

Glad that you are okay, and that the cop was relatively cool with you. (The whole "he was the only one on the road" thing.)

Well you certainly are lucky! I'm glad you got away with it, though. I mean, it's dangerous - but nobody got hurt. You don't get away with things like that forever, though. So be careful - and keep the people around you in mind as well. :)

Wow Flix! What an exciting day. Sounds like you're taking it pretty well. The Eclipse is pretty fun to drive. I almost bought a new one a few months ago but chose something else. It sounds like you were pretty lucky by the time all was said and done. I'm glad they let ya go! ;)

Oh come on...everyone back off the Flixster!!! There isn't a guy out there who owns a hot car that hasn't taken the opportunity to see what it can do. If there is, he's lying. What is the point of a fast car unless you open 'er up every once and awhile?

I never got caught by police when doing ridiculous speeds. Any speeding ticket I've gotten has been for "70 in a 55" or something dumb like that.

I used to, back around '85, go on the Sprain Brook Parkway in NY at around 2-3 am in my black '77 "Smokey & The Bandit" Trans Am and have the speedo pinned and still accellerating. Nothing beats the rush! As long as no one's on the road, I say go for it. Usually cars that can go that fast also handle well at high speeds, so if you know what you're doing you'll be fine.

Just wait until LIVESAY's CD sells enough and Taz and I get our Vipers and F-40s!!! :sneaky: The Sprain Brook awaits, buddy!

lol Remind me not to be on the road when that happens Pagan!!!!! Don't want to accidently get run over. ;)

Men! I think it was childish and immature. A million things can go wrong at that speed. I am glad that you are ok. Let me know if you need a driver the next few weeks.

I am glad to see that Pagan agrees with me. ;) :p

I am so going to give you a hug when I see you in July, Flix

Bad experience, am I right?
Here in germany they say Mercedes Benz has right of way.
But once I had to pay and shut up (and not "see you and have a drink on me").
My aquaintance had another bad trip: Exact at the moment when he was flashed with his car
he had a big poke in his mouth. I don`t know if he`s lost his licence as it is usual.
Once I had fast cars but today I enjoy cruising with my bike, and I never got a speed ticket for low speed......that`s cool.

What road were you on? And let me say I'm very glad I was not on the road last night.
Good story. The fastest I've been was when we were on vacation in California several years ago with a very fast T-bird rental car. It had a governor that kept us to only 115 mph.:bouncy:

This might happen to you in germany:
We just had two curious car-accidents here in this small town, very sad story.
My next to neighbour, a young policeman has just died on a tree and another has been hurt very bad. They were hunting a drunken driver who could escape first and who has been caught without a licence more than 20 times before. A reckless killing was not detectable.
Last early sunday morning a drunken man suddenly appeared on the road, carrying and rotating a road stake. Because a car made way for him, 3 adolescent died on a tree. The drunken man has been caught later.

Whoa...Flix, next time you think about speeding again, think about it twice...

For that amount, you can have a nice trip to Germany including the rental of a Porsche and some 100+ laps on the Nürburgring race track... ;)

Hmmm, you could've also bought a Classic Muscle Car that goes faster then 132MPH for that kind of cash and got an even BIGGER ticket ;) but that defeats the purpose doesn't it, Hmmm, oh well it's a nice thought:D
That really sucks to hear too Mikey :(

Flix, since you're leaving the country anyway, what would happen if you don't pay? Would they restrict your entry back into the country or something? That fine seems waaaaaay too excessive to me...

Hi Flix,
if you mean the mercedes benz 450 SEL the top speed was 240 km/h-150mph.
In the eightees I drove the 450 SEL for two years and a 280 SE ( max speed 200 km/h- 125 mph) for one year.
The comfort even at top speed is very good, the noise inside is very low, only Jaguar is better.
The machine runs 300tkm, that is 190 thousand miles, only the oil pressure goes a little bit down.

These cars are very cheap today, one reason is the price for gas here, one gallon is more than 9 $.
This is one reason ( insurance and taxes the other) that you don`t see many of this one and the following sedan model (280-560 S, SE,and SEL), but the used prices are very low here!

For the ticket you`ve got you might have started a used mercedes shop.

And I don`t know the price for a speed limiter!
