Spinoffs and shows that just never quite made it big. Some of these shows I know hardly anyone has ever heard of.
My Sister Sam
Joanie Loves Chachi
Just the 10 of us (Spinoff from Growing Pains)
Sidney (comedy w/Valerie Bertinelli..Matthew Perry played her younger bro.) it was a detective agency or something like that. ('86)
Models-(I think that's the wrong name..but it was a spinoff from Who's the Boss..when Sam wanted to be a model..Halle Berry's t.v. debut.)

Well, I guess St. Elsewhere could look a little bland compared to something like ER. That is a REALLY cool show.. I haven't seen much of it, but.. When I do watch it, it's always really great..

Otherwise, I'm glad you're getting used to the new board. I hope everyone is! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

China Beach was a really great gritty girl power show!
Bj and the Bear now why don't they play those reruns.

Wasn't there a spin off from Charlie's Angels? I keep thinking there was...

"Bosom Buddies" was one of my fave shows! I may be getting into the 70's here but does anyone out there remember "Soap"? God, that show was a riot!

"A Different World" - I think it got much better after Lisa Bonet left.

"Mama's Family" was a spin-off from the Carol Burnett show. Loved that one too!

I used to love that show "Bosom Buddies" with Tom Hanks. That was like in 1980, I think.

I don't know if anyone remembers the sitcom called e/r that was on in 1984. Jason Alexander was the head administrator of the clinic (non medical staffer), Elliott Gould was the head doctor, Conchata Ferrell was the head nurse, Mary McDonnell (who has been guest starring on ER as Dr. Carter's mom), also played a nurse, and for the really ironic one... George Clooney played the character named "Ace". He was an EMT and med student if I remember correctly and the nephew of the nurse played by Conchata Ferrell. It was a pretty funny show. It only ran for one season, though.

Lots of good ones,
The spinoff of "Who's the Boss" was "Living Dolls"
besides Halle they had babe Leah Remini as "Charlie" tough "street wise" babe Alyssa Milano(Don't get me started on her!)chracter "Samantha"s cousin , that was connection. Sort of the "Jo"
character on "Facts of Life"
"Just the Ten of Us"-AHHH!! THE LUBBOCK BABES!!! Who knew they could sing? With those outfits who cared!!!!!
I also liked the Valerie
Bertinelli show "Sydney" also her other one "Cafe' Americain"
"B.J. and the Bear" not a bad show but one word "Stacks"!
Judy Landers WOW! Remember her on "Madames Place" with that annoying puppet. Her in sexy nightgowns almost made it tolerable! Almost!
Lot of other babes on that show( by the way I'm using babes not in a duragatory way! You ladies are more than welcome to use it about us guys!) Remember Sherilyn Wolter she was also on "General Hospital" Man, she had a smile that could melt steel!
B.J. had a dumb spinoff "Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo"with Claude Atkins
Still can't get his fat deputy's queer way of saying "check" out of mind! Couple of babes on that show Tara Buckman and Amy Botwinick Remember "Peaches & Brandy" A friend of mind dated Tara for awhile said she was a little too bizarre!
Hooperman loved it! Loved all of Ritter's shows...Even "Three's a Crowd" How's that for a spinoff? How bout "The Ropers"
I have the actual negative of a photograph taken of John at age two with his mother on a show horse! Did you know John's dad was famous cowboy crooner Tex Ritter? Did you know John trained to be a stuntman? Why did you think he was so good at prat falls in "3's Co."?!!! In his movie "Skin Deep" when a wave of water hits him if you listen you can here Johns head hit the wall! Not part of the plan!
Liked "Simon and Simon" How bout "Riptide"?
Also "Magnum P.I. My favorite episode was the one were Bo Svenson("Walking Tall") played a sadistic general from Germay who tortured Magnum and his buddies in Nam sometimes by asking the P.O.W.s if they saw the sunrise today? Then he'd put a gun to their heads and pulled the trigger! Sometimes it was loaded sometimes not.He almost gets T.C. to assainate a diplomat. You think he's going to get away with it but Thomas has Rick set up a road block(Car trouble)
when the general's driver goes to help Rick, Magnum quietly leads the general at gunpoint out into the woods. The general tells Magnum "your not going to kill me .It's not in your nature to kill
an unarmed "innocent "man.He turns to walk away. Magnum stops him by asking "Did you see the sunrise today". He turns around "Yes, why?" Magnum raises his gun at fires!
They freeze the frame on him! WOW! TALK ABOUT BLOWN AWAY!
That one did it for me! It will always be an episode of television I will never forget! Anybody have that one on video?!!!
The E/R show was funny Alexander's charater somewhat like his last "Bob Patterson"Liked Clooney's character as well.
"Bosom Buddies"CLASSIC! Tried to tell every body he was gonna be "BIG"! Said the same thing about Sandra Bullock in "Working Girl"(Weaver/Griffith/Ford movie inspired show) Remember that one? Also said the same thing about Jim Carey when I saw "Once Bitten" at the theater. Speaking of "Once Bitten" As far as I know there were never any "Charlie's Angels" spinoffs but Aaron Spelling did produce the pilot for a new series called "Angels 88' "Karen Kopins(one of my alltime favorite babes- looked like a young Erin Gray from "Buck Roger" anyway!) who played Jim's girlfriend in "Once Bitten"was set to play one of them. This time there were going to be 4 angels!
It was never aired!!! Bummer anybody have a vhs copy?!!!

The only show that comes to mind immediately was a spin off on Top Gun in 1987.

For the life of me I can't remember the name of it, but it was so blatent obvious that they ripped off the movie. Exact same type of setting with the jets, I believe aircraft carrier, and so forth.

I've often wondered what the name was... either way, it was out in 87 I believe and only lasted 1 year, if that. It sucked!

I have read many times that Malcolm In The Middle is just a rip off on Married With Children. Never watched it because I don't like spin offs much.

The last spin off I watched was Family Guy. I read that it was very similar to Simpsons, and they are right. I watched 3 episodes and besides the fact the baby has a head the shape of a football, and the mom and dad are VERY close to Homer and Marge, I just hated how much Simpsons was ripped off.

Overall, I find that most spin offs suck. You can rarely beat the original show.

Not to be anal guys, but we need to get our TV terminology correct. A spinoff is a TV show that has direct roots from another TV show. Basically meaning they're generally made by the same writers and producers of the original show and the characters all exist in the same universe. Fonzie and Mork exist in the same universe. Urkel and Balki exist in the same universe.

For instance:

Laverne and Shirley was a spinoff of Happy Days.

Mork and Mindy was also spinoff of Happy Days.

Joanie Loves Chachie was yet another spinoff(albeit a failed one) of Happy Days.

Just the Ten of Us was a failed spinoff of Growing Pains.

Family Matters was a spinoff of Perfect Strangers.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine was a spinoff of Star Trek The Next Generation

Shows that are just similar to other shows are not spinoffs. Ripoffs maybey, but not spinoffs. Unhappily Ever After was a ripoff of Married With Children. Al Bundy and Nikki Cox's character do not exist in the same universe.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that I came across as violently angry or anything. I knew it would sound a bit anal to show the difference between a spinoff and a ripoff, but I didn't realize I sounded so mean spirited like that. My apologies to everyone.

That's alright. When I was speaking about shows like."Sydney", "Simon & Simon","Magnum P.I.","Bosom Buddies"...etc.I was just sharing my personal memories about shows other people had mentioned in their posts. I think I know which shows are far spinoffs and which are not but I will let my other posts on the subject of TV and my forth coming show schedule for Sal's Eighties Entertainment network speak for themselves!
As for "Just the Ten of Us" it did last 3 seasons it aired on ABC from April 26,1988-July 26,1990 and the reruns ran alittle longer in some areas It was also in syndication for a short while. Some highlights for the "Lubbock Babes"include:
Heather Langenkamp starred in a couple of the "Nightmare On Elmstreet" movies among other films,Brooke Theiss appeared on "Beverly Hills 90210" for several episodes and Jamie Luner starred on TV's "Profiler" and "Melrose Place"

Without Soap there would have been no Benson. Soap, by far was one of the funniest sitcoms of it's time.

I liked the "Tortelli's" a spin-off of "Cheers"! :thumb: It starred Dan Hedeya, he played Carla's husband on "Cheers". The show centered around his family in Vegas. Jean Kasem played his ditzy wife, but alas the show lasted all of a 1/2 season! :(
