One of my favorite shows in the 80's was Amazing stories,it was like a modern day Twilight Zone, but with it's own twists. My favorite episode was the one were an actor is in some swamp in the south filming a movie about a local Mummy legend, when he finds out his wife went into labor,so he goes off(in mummy make-up and all)to be with her.Eventually he runs out of gas and goes to get some but the hillbilly locals think he's a real mummy and try to kill him.All kinds of crazy stuff happen from there.(One of the funniest lines I ever heard was from this episode...The hillbillys finally catch the actor and are trying to figure out how to kill him, they decide to hang him but he slips out of the noose and runs away, one hillbilly says to the others"I told you,you can't hang a mummy, mummys ain't got no necks"guess you had to see it)
Does anyone else remember this show,I believe it aired from late 80's til the early 90's.

I certainly DO remember this show! It was one of my favorites! I don't remember any of the episodes, though. This is another series I wish I could buy. Man, there were such cool shows back in the 80s. What compares to THIS now?!

Greetings! Well, if it's of any help, I've got several episodes of Amazing Stories on laserdisc, if you'd like to get tapes of 'em. E-mail me if you'd like to work something out.

Hi, Zaranyzerak! And welcome! I don't have a laserdisc player but I bet people would be interested in buying some copies who did. Post this in the 80s selling, trading and most-wanted section...

Greetings!

Thanks for the welcome, Sal, it's a pleasure to be here! I'll check out the other board you mentioned. I wouldn't be willing to part with my Laserdiscs, but I'd be more than happy to run off dubs for folks. Cheers!

I remember that show. It would be nice if one of the networks would pick it up and start showing it again.

I was watching some episodes of Amazing Stories just yesterday. I thought it was a good show.

I started watching these on video before they even came out on New Zealand TV. There were some great stories. They've been replayed recently on NZ TV so I watched some again. I remember the "Mummy" one too. I couldn't say what was my favourite story though.

One I particularly remember well, was quite a ridiculous one about a guy trapped in the bottom of a WWII bomber and the wheels of the plane wouldn't come down so he was faced with the plane landing and him being crushed. He was a cartoonist and he was saved when a pair of cartoon wheels miraculously appeared under the plane as it landed!

Remember the one with Christopher Lloyd as the sadistic teacher who loses his head? THAT episode was the talk of the school playground the next day.

There are several compilations of Amazing Stories shown on TV every once in a while. They are billed as Amazing Stories: the Movie Book 1, Book 2, etc. or something like that. My favorite episode stars Mark Hamill as a guy who is visited by a troll as a child and is told to never throw anything away and buy what his heart desires. He does this and ends up in financial ruin. He decides to use the loose change in his ceramic mug to buy enough gas to run his car off a cliff when a lady in a limousine next to him at the gas station sees his mug and offers to buy it for $10,000. He then ends up selling off his collection for a fortune. Kind of ironic now: Mark Hamill, Star Wars, collecting...

Freaky program... the compilation movies have been on the Sci-Fi Channel lately, if I'm not mistaken. I haven't seen them in the TV guide for this week, I hope they're going to show them again in the future.

I remember this show. The episode I most clearly remember is the one where an old lady competes in this pumpkin contest. This guy gives her a formula so she'll have the largest pumpkin.

In the end, the pumpkin shrinks (though it's still large) and she loses.

Another episode I remember is where some train goes through a guy's house.
