View Full Version : Buy this Album ~ Felix Da Housecat
Tydestra 5-27-02, 05:06 AM Okay, most of you know that I work in music retail... or you do now. I love this CD and I've been meaning to give you the heads up on it. The DJs name is Felix Da Housecat. His album, "Kitten and Da Glitz" is an 80s electro funk, house, trance type of thing
If you live in NYC, the Virgin Megastore in the E. Village (where I work:D) has the CD for 12.99 And its also on the listening station too :) If you're in Mid-Town, that :yucky: Virgin in Times Sqaure should have it on sale.
I will have to listen to it next time I am at Virgin, Ty. Thank you for the recommendation. I love to hear something new and different.
Prefab Sprouter 5-27-02, 06:57 AM Good recommendation Tydestra! I saw this guy do a set at the Witnness Festival last year and he was brilliant!
Tydestra 5-27-02, 06:58 AM Oh cool... like Ther said in chat, we've probably passed by one another dozens of times if you've come into the store. Try the weekend... that's when Im there :)
Thanks Prefab... he has another album that just came out like 3wks ago, not the one Im recommending, but its AWESOME! I saw him spin in NYC like 3 times, he did an instore for Virgin and I got passes to see him spin at... I can't remember the name of the venue
Therrall 5-27-02, 07:10 AM Cool Ty, thanks for the heads up, I'll give it a listen :D
Sounds cool. Can't say I've ever heard of that artist though.
Tydestra 5-27-02, 08:22 AM :p *cough*stalking*cough* He's a DJ... you can find out about him on-line... try Yahoo's site :)
Prefab Sprouter 5-27-02, 10:12 AM Hey Ty,
You into House Music? Who are your favourite artists if so?
Tydestra 5-28-02, 12:52 AM I'm all over the place... here's a quick run down... not much into the 80s stuff though. Besides Felix... here's the run down covering Acid Jazz, House, Techo, Drum&Bass
BT, Francios K, Moby, Basement Jaxx, Avalanches (who's albumSince I Left You is another must buy), Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method, Ursula 1000, Dimitri From Paris, Groove Armada, Dara, Diesel Boy, Miss Kitten
Those are some of the DJs I like :)
Okay

Okay
That is a cool list. I like BT and Moby a lot. I think Avalanches is one of last year's best cd's. How about Faithless and Etienne De Crecy, Tydestra? I think Rollo from Faithless is the best DJ around.
Tydestra 5-28-02, 01:15 AM I didnt like Etienne last album, but I loved the remix of it. I'm not too big on Faithless
And I forgot to mention Kinky, Deep Dish, Boards of Canada, Blue6, Paul Van Dky and Anabolic Frolic, who does all the Happy 2Be Hardcore albums :) The Hed Kandi albums, the Irma records.
Okay... I think I got them all :D
Avalanches album just came out here in the States like in Feb, cause since the whole album is just samplers from other songs, it had to get a boat load of clearances before it got pressed in the US.
Prefab Sprouter 5-28-02, 03:34 AM Good lists girls!!! I love Dance Music myself and have done for years (It almost rivals my love for 80's music!!!!)
Ty,
I love Dmitri from Paris. His album "A night at the playboy mansion" is always on my CD.
Pippi,
I agree with you that Rollo is a Fantastic DJ.
My list would be:
Masters At Work (nobody finer!!!), Faithless; David Morales, Etienne de Crecy; Bob Sinclair, Sister Bliss(Faithless); Groove Armada; Joey and Norman Jay; Paul Oakenfold (His Goa Mixes are soo cool); Miguel Migs
If I could give a recommendation check out the following:
DJ Mark Doyle plays a 3 hour set every Saturday on www.Jazzfm.com from 12 midnight to 3am GMT. Excellent music!
Tydestra 5-28-02, 04:05 AM Hmmm, have to disagree on the Paul Oakenfold, I've listen to his stuff, all of it. I dont see where everyone comes calling him the best DJ in the world.
If you love A Night @ the Playboy, you should get his new one... After the Playboy :) I like it better than the 1st one
Prefab Sprouter 5-28-02, 04:08 AM Ty,
I definitely wouldnt call him the best in the world (To me Little Louie Vega gets that award) but some of his sets from the early 90's are really really good (IMHO)
I think Paul Oakenfold has done really well with some of the songs from Perfecto records. I love to dance to Planet Perfecto's Bullet In The Gun and Resurrection from PPK.
I saw that you mentioned Bob Sinclar, Prefab. I really like some of the remixes of his singles. The garage version of Darlin' is really good.
I have all the Hed Kandi cd's. I think they are the coolest compilations out there. Especially their Winter Chill and Serve Chilled series.
I also like the two Lazy Dog compilations of Ben Watt, from Everything But The Girl, and Jay Hannan remixes.
There is so much good dance music out there. :) :)
Prefab Sprouter 5-28-02, 04:19 AM OH MY GOD!! A HED KANDI LOVER!!! PIPPI, I am now your no.1 fan!!!!!!
You have such good taste in music girl!!!!!:D
I have Disco Kandi and all the Back to Love CD's. I just love all the Old Skool music.:)

  My new pick-up line to get guys is: Do you want to come home and look at my cd collection?
You are a sweetie, Prefab :) :*
Prefab Sprouter 5-28-02, 04:29 AM Thank you Pippi! Right back at ya! :)
Tydestra 5-28-02, 04:51 AM Mixer, Dj, Electronic Music all magazines have called Paul the best Dj. Little Louie Vega is okay :)
For me I'll have to say that BT is the best Dj in the world. I love is R&R remix album :)
The Hed Kandi stuff is heaven sent!
 I forgot Ministry of Sound!!! I really, really love their stuff.
Prefab, you should check out their "Back to Old Skool" collection! :D
I hate to say it, but the US Ministry Of Sound titles are too boring in my opinion. I like most of their UK releases, because most of it is brand new. The US releases are not at all like that.
I don't know if you can get them in Ireland, but the compilations from Kontor in Germany are really good too. That is where you find early Ferry Corsten stuff among other things.
Prefab Sprouter 5-28-02, 05:21 AM Ty,
I love the Ministry of Sound sessions Albums, not gone on their Annuals which is mainly chart stuff and a bit too commercial for me.
I actually donwloaded most of that old Skool stuff when Napster was at its height.
Pippi,
Thanks for that. I'll check out those Kontor compilations. Ferry Corsten??? Hmmmm. I've heard of him but am unfamiliar with his sets. I'll have to check him out too.
If you guys still have WinMX or Morpheus look for Sister Bliss's Ministry of Sound Set. Its a few years old but well worth it.

I only have Headliners 02 from Sister Bliss. What is the name of that set, Prefab?
Prefab Sprouter 5-28-02, 05:29 AM To my knowledge Pippi ,It's "Ministry of Sound Sessions".
Tydestra 5-28-02, 05:29 AM You can get the Konitor stuff here... for almost 30 bucks, but you can get it. :) Im not too keen on the Annuals either... its just mostly filler
All this name dropping of DJ's and not one word about Pete Tong or Armand Van Helden. Armand is god behind the turntables. I've seen him like ten times and he is the real deal.
Morales? Seen him twice and he trainwrecked twice.
Other fav DJ's of mine: MAW, Danny Howells, Dave Clarke, Seb Fontaine, Erick Morillo, Sasha, Judge Jules, Timo Maas and Artful Dodger.
Armand is too hard to dance to, Flix. Too much cutting and too much urban without good dance beats.
I am glad you included Masters At Work among your favorites.
Tydestra 6-04-02, 11:04 PM Van Helen, hes okay... but I have to be in the mood for him ;) Not a fan of Pete Tong, not my cup of tea.
Speaking of Djs... what do you guys think of Moby's new album?
Prefab Sprouter 6-05-02, 03:36 AM Moby's new album? Havent had a chance to listen to it but some friends claim its really good.
Flix,
good on you for mentioning MAW! I have to say I dont mind Tongy!
My tastes in dance music are definitely changing; I'm now listening to a lot more latin and Deep house; and jazz influenced dance music as well
As ty brought up the subject of "Old Skool" has anyone checked out any music from the Salsoul label? IMHO it's really really good dance music (even thought its from the 70's). Most DJ's have acknowledged this label to be a major influence on the evolution of House Music.
I think the new Moby cd is really good. I like most of the songs on it already.
I loved the Play cd, so I was a little worried but this cd has not disappointed me.
Prefab Sprouter 6-05-02, 03:42 AM Pippi,
Is the new CD similar to "Play"?
It is hard to say, because Play is such a classic now. I think it has less songs that you like from the first listening, but I can not remember if that was how I felt about Play before getting addicted to it.
Prefab Sprouter 6-05-02, 03:46 AM Yeah I really like Play. Mind you I thought St. Germain's Touriste was much better, Play was great but a little over hyped!
I only liked Sure Thing from the St. Germain cd.
Have any of you listened to the Kosheen and Modjo cd's?
I really like the Modjo cd. I think it has a very unique sound and the vocals are very smooth. The Kosheen cd is my favorite dance cd right now. It is a great cd to dance around the house to.
Prefab Sprouter 6-05-02, 04:04 AM Kosheen? Havent heard it! Must check it out!
They have had a big hit this year with Catch.
**Sings for Prefab**
Out off my way I’m running
I’m gonna catch you if I can
Out off my way I’m coming
I’m gonna catch you if I can
Does it ring a bell with anyone here?
Prefab Sprouter 6-05-02, 04:36 AM oh yeah sing to me! You're obviously a Soprano!
Tydestra 6-05-02, 08:26 PM Ahhhh... keep Kosheen away from me, its horrible
Its not that bad, but don't know... it hasn't grown on me yet.
Play over hyped? Really? :yikes: He only sold the rights of all his songs... 18 is like Play 2, its okay on its own, but I'm sort of disappointed. Hopefully Moby isnt going to turn into one of those DJs who have ONE major hit and they do everything after that one song in the same format. It would be a very sad day if that comes to pass.
Prefab Sprouter 6-06-02, 03:13 AM Ty, Moby's been around for years His song "Go" is an absolute Classic and so is (IMHO) "Everytime you touch me".
I was just gonna sa that Prefab. Moby has like 8 albums behind him. I doubt he will let commercial success ruin his progress as a musician.
I thought this was his 11th album including the Greatest Hits one.
Tydestra 6-08-02, 12:18 AM  The sarsacm (horrible speller) just went over all of ya, right? :p
I love Moby's old stuff and I  to Play, but Im just saying that 18 is like Play Vol 2, I was expecting something new, he did something new with all of his stuff.
He has 12 CDs, cause Moby Play was released again with the B-Sides to it, it was an import and a domestic version ;)
