View Full Version : Could Jackson, Mississippi get its own '80s station?
Even as I type this, WYJS-FM 105.9--a former oldies station that bit the dust Friday night--is currently stunting...with clips from four '80s movies (Back to the Future, Footloose, Top Gun and--I think--Fast Times at Ridgemont High) and three '80s songs (The Breakfast Club's Don't You Forget About Me, Kenny Loggins' Footloose, Dolly Parton's 9 to 5).
I've heard the following statements from the now-stunting WYJS:
[list=1]
Get Footloose and free!
Get The Breakfast Club together for something special!
Get ready to travel Back to the Future!
A new Top Gun arrives in Jackson on the radio.
You work Hard for the Money.
Working 9 to 5 just got better!

WYJS is set to relaunch this morning, at 10:59 Central Time. If WYJS does turn out to be an '80s station, it'll be Jackson's first--and only--'80s station. :)
80sTrivia 5-27-02, 07:18 AM I'll keep my fingers crossed that the station's new format is all-80s, Jeff!!! That would be so totally rad kewl, now wouldn't it!?!
That would be cool for you, Jeff. I think we need more eighties stations out there. Not enough of them as it is.
I'm already wide awake, anxious to find out if WYJS will become Jackson's first '80s station. :)
Iluvthe80s 5-27-02, 10:18 AM Please keep us posted, Jeff! I always love hearing that another town or city gets a new 80's station! :)
Portland just got its first 80's station about 2 years ago. For years Q105 (now Rosie 105) kept changing their style, over and over. They used to play good music, but now its all 90's crap.
Mix 107.5 moved in sometime during 2000. They play 80's and some 90's, but the newest I've heard was from around 93.
Not a bad station though. Out of all the places I go that have the radio playing, about 50% (if not more) listen to the station.
It's definitely nice having an 80's radio station though.
At 10:59 am Central Time, the station formerly nicknamed Oldies 105.9 became...105.9 The Maxx!!!
:) :) :)
Iluvthe80s 5-27-02, 02:02 PM Well, is it a TOTAL 80's station?

Yes, I believe it is. :)
sketcher 5-27-02, 03:42 PM The Max is such an 80s phrase, too!
Congrats on the new station. Toronto (well, near Toronto) had one but it kept changing it's format :( It was called Foxy (not very 80s).
Iluvthe80s 5-27-02, 04:48 PM Ours is called "The End" because it is the last station in Austin, TX at the end of the FM band. (www.1077ktnd.com)
I'm glad you finally got an 80s station there, Jeff.
Our 80s station here couldn't hang in there. They now play a lot of 80s music, but they also play 90s and today's music. It kinda made me mad when I first heard a recent tune, but now I'm used to it.

I'm glad Jackson now has its own '80s station, too! I hope The Maxx will be around...well, forever! :)
(105.9) The Maxx's slogans (in alphabetical order):
[list=1]
All '80s, all the time
The best of the '80s & more
'80s to The Maxx
MAXXimum '80s
Totally '80s
