View Full Version : HBO's "In Memorium"
Just finished watching it. Way too powerful. I told myself I wouldn't let it get to me, but the tears flowed nonetheless.
The scenes with Giuliani's Assistant talking about her husband, who was Captain of FDNY Rescue One, were the most heart wrenching. When she said that she knew her husband was dead when she saw Tower 1 collapse was bad enough, but when she said she knew he must have been incinerated, and she was grabbing the dust in the street because she knew he must have been part of it, I lost it.
Watching the people falling again, and seeing that one photo of a body on the ground, the tears turned to complete anger again. If they replay it, watch it. We can't forget.
Goddess, how I wish the entire Middle East was a smoldering radioactive crater right now...:1pissed:
80sTrivia 5-26-02, 10:20 PM I just finished watching it as well, Pagan. I didn't want to watch it initially, as I knew it would bring back all of the hideous and painful memories of that unforgettable day. The scenes of the people jumping from the buildings affected me the most, as I avoided watching that footage immediately after the attacks. But the amazing courage demonstrated by the people of New York made me so very proud...:flag:
I didn't want to watch it either, but I did. Don't know what to say, except for those poor people in the towers up above the flames. That was hell on earth and I just can't imagine what they were going through.
That day, all they showed on TV was aerial shots from helicopters on the burning Towers. Nothing from the streets. And to see it now....was just too much......
I wish Rudy Guiliani was still our Mayor. He never faltered, or lost his composure that day (at least not on camera). He made us all feel safe.
God bless all those lost. I'll never forget, and will ALWAYS be proud to be a New Yorker. It was so F'n sad to watch 3,000 people die in front of us that day.
I decided not to watch it, because I knew it would make me so very sad. My boyfriend watched some of it, but he gave up and turned off the tv. I am never going to forget that day, but I can not bring myself to watch it. Maybe in many years, but not now.
The scene that choked me up was watching the firemen carry two bodies draped in the American flag to the awaiting ambulences. There were other scenes that were gripping, but that was the most touching for me.
Let us never forget...
ImSoooSure 5-27-02, 03:02 AM I dont have cable so I didn't watch it. I'm sure I would have lost it too. I still have a tuff time just seeing the same news footage they show all the time. It's just so sad to think about what happened that day.

:tsk: Summon not Athena in vain Pagan love... not cool. :p
I refuse to watch anything having to do w/ Sept. 11th. Cause if people :buttkiss: our Ex-Mayor one more time, Im gonna :barf: He did want he had to do, he did nothing extra to be getting so much praise... Time's Man of the Year my left... you know what. I rather  to every EMT, Cop and Fire Figther than to say thanks once to Guliani.
I fear the the groups in the inside, more than I fear the groups in the M.E.

I don't want to start any kind of debate here, but I just have one thing to say. Maybe not the entire population, but have you not been watching the news? Do we have to see one more newscast showing hoards of these people shouting "death to America" and burning flags and effigies of our leaders? They all hate us, it's as simple as that. I'm sure you would think quite differently if downtown Melbourne was "ground zero".
Like I said though, I don't want to get into a debate, especially with the liberals amongst us.

Don't worry Ty, I am not summoning Her in vain. It all stems from a song I'm writing called "A Matter of Security". Unfortunately, sometimes self-preservation must take precidence over the moral right. I'd rather be alive and be told I did something immoral than be a corpse who "did the right thing" Like my lyric says so far:
"Cause the wolves are at the gate
And it's starting to splinter
Complacency has weakened its resolve
While we looked the other way
From the oncoming winter
It's left us with more problems to be solved"

Have to disagree with you there Ty....he went to every NYPD and FDNY funeral. He was there for everyone. Bloomberg hasn't gone to a single one yet. Rudy was there for the people, he was accessible.
I fear the groups in the inside, more than I fear the groups in the M.E.
....and just where do you think the groups on the inside come from and get their funding from? ;)

Giuty as charged... I'm a Liberal, but not the :yucky: bleeding heart type. While Im not fond of Mike yet, he has gone to a handful of funerals, and Rudy did not go to all of them... he went to most and to the rest he sent someone to represent him; the very thing that Mike is doing. Rudy accessible? :bs::rolleyes::lol: The man who had City Hall under blockade for the last 2yrs of his term so that people wouldnt be able to peaceful protest.
And a good chunk of the Middle East groups get their money American groups here... something the media isn't sharing or hasn't seen. I'm a sticker for "Keep your friend's close, but your enemies closer."
:thumb: Awesome lyrics... where the rest? I want to see the finsh product :)
And Pops, we got to behave.... damn it
LOSTNTHE80S 5-27-02, 11:51 AM We don't have HBO so I wasn't able to watch this. It sounds like a very emotional program. I'll never forget Sept. 11, it still haunts me and probably will for the rest of my life. I'm going to check the listings frequently and subscribe just to watch it the next time.
I don't have cable (don't really want it either), and I only watch MAYBE 2 hours of TV per week.
Not sure if I would have watched it or not. I have seen many stories about the events and they are pretty gut wrenching.
I can only take so much of it. I was at Costco a few days ago and they had 2 large books with TONS of pictures from during the attacks and the aftermath. Pretty shocking.
I'm just trying to move on with life. I didn't know anybody that was killed, but it still is just too depressing for me.
Not sure if I could have handled it anyway...

Uh oh....politics! :bigeek: We'd better not discuss that, as it's one of the big three "no-no's" to talk about! I dug Rudy for the most part, so we wouldn't see eye to eye on that topic! ;)

True, very true....but they had to start somewhere. We know where that somewhere is. I'm not one to sit idly by and wait while they build nuclear weapons, which is exactly what they're doing. Just imagine the 9/11 attacks had the terrorists been carrying nukes. Would have made what did happen seem like a picnic. It's heading that way if we don't do something about it. You can count on that.

You shall....when it's finished! I'm still tweaking it. As for now, I'm on my way to post the lyrics for the 3rd song that's being added to "Darkest Hour" in the "Stuff from our members section" now...
And Pops, we got to behave.... damn it
Yea....the one thing that sux about being Wiccan, huh? Wait a minute....who the f**k are you calling Pops? Ya little whippersnapper!!! :hammer:
It is true that Rudy G did what he had to, (The Time magazine cover is probably a whole nother debate) but I think he excelled at being a caring father figure to the entire city of New York, and even for a moment the entire country. Even though he didn't run into buildings or save people, his value came from being the dad everyone needed to let them know everything was going to be OK. I think on 9-11, almost everyone became lost children, and Rudy was there for NY.
just my thoughts on the man....
But I do understand the flip side of why people think the man gets too much praise, and is a packaged, force fed hero. After all before 9-11 Rudy was mired in womanizing scandals, then the attacks happened and he became an American icon.

 Pops! You gotta watch that mouth around me, oh my virgin ears! Whippersnapper? I'm clueless on this one, you have to use references from the 20th and the 21st centuries around me, no pulling ones out of the attic on me:p I left my history text books in school
Yep, that's the one and only downfall of being Wiccan, you cant :witch2: people when you really want to. :thumb: I like what I see, very good Pops. Its nice to see that the old man still has it.
Ha, told you I was going to get even for you calling me kid... how do ya like me now?:mwaha:
helloman 5-28-02, 07:20 AM That dark day was the only day I watched a TV soap at 2pm. The program was suddenly interrupted and I had the picture of the first burning tower a few minutes after it happened. Then I saw the second airplane crashing in and got all the other facts.
I zapped CNN and RTL and was like frozen. A few weeks ago I got me everything for a flight to New York like city-map and information material, but I had my foot still bandaged from a diving accident (glass).
It was like a kick,
suddenly I felt somehow like beeing very close. I phoned my family, for the logistic made me think this is a war attack. I thought that this can`t be true.
And I still have the hate in my mind the poor people in the towers up above did not have (the time for).

oh yes, i have been keeping up with what's been happening
i'm sure, it would be a sickening sight to see what happened in new york, washington, etc., (it was awful enough watching it live on tv) but still, the ordinary person living in the middle east has really not known peace for decades! we don't get to see all the suicide bomb blasts in the middle east, etc etc live to air, in your face...
whether you think they all hate america, whether you hate all the people in the middle east is your opinion...we watch the same news...its just that i may interpret it differently, and i'm not going to try to debate the topic with you.
my point is that i believe such comments are inappropriate in here
think about it...this is a global forum...what would someone from the middle east visiting this forum think about such statements?

Probably exactly what I think when I hear them say America must die. However, at this point I really couldn't care what they think. Nor would over 3,000 families here in America who lost their loved ones. You're right about it being inappropriate, but only in this forum. Maybe it should be moved to the "Operation Infinite Justice" forum.

This may be true, but they have been blown up by their own people. Last I recall, America has not attacked them because we don't like their religion and lifestyle. You're comparing apples to oranges, my friend. I guess we should have left Japan alone after they bombed Pearl Harbor, huh? After all, not all the Japanese were bad guys, right? Had we not gotten involved and attacked the enemy as a whole instead of selectively, we'd all be goosestepping right now, including you.
You're also right in that there will be no debate. End of discussion. We (obviously) have different views, and trying to pound them into each other's heads will get us nowhere.
