I know that they had the majority of their hits in the nineties, but they started out in 1984 or 1985.
I always loved The Beloved and I was wondering if anyone else know of them? They started out as a quartet, but were reduced to a two people band in the late eighties. The members were husband and wife Jon & Helena Marsh.
I remember listening to Sun Rising back in 1988 and it was so different than anything I had ever heard as a 14 year old. My brother kept playing it for me again and again. My favorite Beloved song is a tie between Hello and Sweet Harmony. I think both of those songs are from the nineties, but I am not sure about Hello.
I saw Jon Marsh as a DJ here in NYC during the winter. Now he is a house music DJ only.

Most of their stuff is way outta print, but if Im correct, I saw some of their stuff in clearance bins this week. They may also have some stuff available in cheap Import prices :)

Pippi.
Good thread. I remember this band from my Clubbing days in the early 90's. Sweet Harmony was a huge Rave Anthem in Ireland and England in 1993 although the song "Satellite" would be my favourite. The Sun Rising was another cool song which made a comeback on loads of "Chill Out" compilations last year.
It's a wonderfully haunting track that you never never forget!

I know as much as you do, but never knew they had other songs than "Sweet Harmony" and "Your Love Takes Me Higher".
I can recommend the cd Happiness to people who don't know The Beloved. It is a really good cd with Sun Rising, Hello, Your Love Takes Me Higher and many more.
Wow!! I love the Beloved, I have to say great choice of subject :thumb:
They were a married couple and that was pretty unique at the turn of the 90's. I loved 'The Sun Rising' and you're right, it was so different at that time. They contributed much to the changing music scene of the early 90's.
I've got the album 'Happiness' with 'Hello' and 'Sun Rising', and I love nearly all the tracks on it.
The last song I bought from them was 1995's minor UK hit 'Satellite', but they never reached cult status again. Always will be a classic band that stands out in my CD collection.
Great thread Pippi!!

The "local" radiostation (most of the radio stations here are broadcasted statewide, just in case that you are curious) played "Hello" and "It's Alright Now" quite often, so I went to the next record store and bought "Happiness". A minor disappointment for me...can't say that I like the whole CD very much.
Of course, I also went out when "Sweet Harmony" was released...popmusic like that was pretty rare in the early 90s. ;)
And, this track is still played fairly often on radio...just listened to it yesterday when I was on my way to school.
