Okay, here's a poll. If you have to pick just one thing about the 80's that you love the most, what would it be? Remember, you can only pick one. With the "other" choice you cannot say, "I can't choose because I love it all." ;)

It was a tough call between music and the atmosphere, but since I wasn't fully aware of every aspect of the atmosphere being a kid at the time (everything was fun! ), I went with music....ya just can't lose with the music :D

I voted atmosphere. When I think back to those days, it's not music, games, clothes or any other thing I remember best .... It's the whole 80s atmosphere/feeling .... Maybe I'm just mistaking this with something else in my selective memory. I remember the 80s as being genuinly great and good, but then again I remember sun every summer and snow every christmas and winter ;) :D

Man I'm getting old

The music!! And everything that went with it...all the bands, the shows, the people you met at shows, the whole deal.

I would have voted for "Everything" had it been an option!!! ;) I voted for atmosphere. I can listen to the great 80s music whenever I want, but it's the general feeling of happiness and well being from the 80s that I truly miss the most!!!

I enjoy the movies from the eighties the most. There was so many good movies from back then. They don't make movies like they did in the eighties anymore. I really liked the music too, but some of my my favorite songs are from the nineties, so the movies ended up getting my vote.

Definitely the music! The music of the 80's was what made me love the decade so much...and then gradually I came to love the whole 80's vibe, the 80's clothes, movies, etc. Yet, 80's music is the best ever. It can't be matched by any other decade of music! :) :thumb: :banger:

I'd have to say music. :) It's the main thing that I can still enjoy today (movies too, but I like the music better). The whole 80s atmosphere was great too, probably because I was still in school and didn't have to deal much with reality back then. ;)

MOVIES!

I absolutely love 80s movies, because they contain all the other options you offered (music, fashion and atmosphere), plus good humor, lots of over-the-top sex and violence, heart...basically, 80s movies reflect humans as who we are and what we dream about, whether it be finding acceptance among peers, becoming rich and powerful, or just taking the day off

Sincerely,

John "outofplacechild" Kilduff

It was hard just to pick one because I love everything about the 80's but I went with the atmosphere.Like someone mentioned I can still listen to 80's music today and that goes for movies too I can pop in an 80's movie in the vcr but you can't get back the atmosphere of the 80's.It was such a fun decade and a remember it having a postive atmosphere. We can't experience that anymore.Followed by the atmoshere of the 80's I would pick the movies. After 1989 the movies couldn't even compare of those from the 80's!They can keep there special effects.

I said the music, even though everything about it ROCKED OUT!!!!!!!! Even without the fashion I'd still dress differently, cuz the music would inspire me.

Definitely the atmosphere. The music's stayed around, so do the movies, and the way things are going 80s fashions may be making a comeback sooner or later. :D Ah, but the atmosphere, that's the secret ingredient that brings it all together.

That is a very good point. I never thought of it like that. You are right though.

Fashion Rules!:p

I had to vote for fashion. I loved the big hair, the clothing, punks, mods, new wavers, preppies, rockers... I love looking at old 80s magazines when I can find them. It's so fun to check out the hair styles and clothing the stars wore. The advertisments are a blast to look at too.
...I have to say I really had a tuff time bet. music and fashion. Then it hit me, fashion does rule!:D

The music.

It's the music that brings back all the memories of the 80s for me. I listen to an old song and I am taken back to the time I used to hear it regularly. Nothing like a good old 80s music nostalgia trip. :)

Tough poll this time. I chose atmosphere. Just the whole 80s thing going on. too bad everything wasnt one of the choices. But i would think atmosphere would include the music, fashion and most of the choices on the poll.

I also like many of the movies and some of the fashion. The whole 80s addiction is a sentimental thing for me as I love to remeber the good old days.

i choose 'other' cause my favorite part of the 80's
was the cartoons. pure magic.
music was awesome too.
however fashion sucked. people used to dress terribly...
hair styling also was horrible.

I loved the music.. of course my mom dressed me for the first HALF of the 80s.. so fashion wasn't a big concern.. plus the music is the main thing that lives on through other decades.

I voted Music. I wasn't really into music untill Zapp came out with "More Bounce to the Ounce" then after I heard "JMJ" with Run-Dmc I wanted to be a DJ. In the late 80's it was the whole atmosphere I still have a ticket stub of the movie Critters and a Run-Dmc concert with L.L. Cool J and Whodini and a Ticket stubb from a Beastie Boy concert. I wish the voting could have been 1,2 or 3. I also like the fashion especially the later years, plus everyone didn't seem the same like they do now. It seemed that back then you could be different and you could still fit in. Lot of songs you could ply on the radio in front of kids back then and not feel red faced.

I chose atmosphere. Everything went into making the atmosphere but, I think back then, there was a more positive atmosphere. There seemed to be hope and an abundance of creativity in the air. The music was much more positive back then. I mean, most heavy metal in the 80's was about having a good time. And most New Wavers etc, even if they had a heavy political message, were getting it across and trying to inspire hope in people.

Couldn't have said it better....

Everything was so much more light-hearted. When you saw kids hanging out they were always laughing, music was always cranking. That whole godforsaken f*cking "angst" thing wasn't as prevalent.

Kids went to clubs to see local bands...there was actually a club "scene". Each club had it's "regulars". You could go there any night on the weekend and it was packed, regardless of who was playing. Now unless there's a band they REALLY like, the clubs are like morgues on weekends.

And the local bands!!!! My Goddess!!! In NY you had Twisted Sister and Anthrax for local acts, and in Cali it was ALL the hair bands!!! Man...it was amazing to have been priviledged enough to have lived through it.

I voted Music but after reading this post I'd have to agree with Atmosphere. Maybe it was because I had little to no responsibility back then but things did seem much more positive in the 80's than it did in the 90's and today. The 90's brought out too much negativeness and anger in both music and television. And todays atmosphere is definitely guarded mostly in part to 9/11 and the events in the middle east.

I would have to say the fashion was. I think the models and fashion wear of the 80's were so much more fabulous than what is 'in style' today. The models these days look so plain and/or thin and boring, compared to the georgeous valuptuous models of the 80's (more than just skin and bones, they had pizazz and style, as well as curves). Even airline hostesses look plainer......The make up, the hair, the clothing, it has all gone down hill....I'm so glad that the 80's are slowly, but surely coming back into play. Smiles. :)

The MUSIC! When you lock yourself up in your room to be alone, all you have is the phone and music. There's nothing like the music from the 80s to compare to todays.

Has to be the atmosphere. Everything else is as a result of it. The 80s were a fun decade. We came out of the 70s with all the problems of "VeetNam", Watergate, hyperinflation, and the general malaise. The 80s were all about enjoying life again.

The 90s were all about spoiled brats whining for the sake of whining.

I went with other... all the things listed are a part of my 80s memories, but it is the fact that I was young, naive and innocent that made the music, movies, fashion and atmosphere what it was to me.

Indeed the 80's were a fun decade for me as well. Riding and racing BMX, music, movies and just plain able to be a kid with little worries. :) Half the decade I was still a kid and the other half a young adult.

I picked the music, the 80's was a time when different styles of music came in to play, punk rock, new wave, hair bands/ glamour rock, heavy metal, and pop just to name a few. This virtual 80's melting pot helped to mold the 80's decade into what it is today.

The music. Without a doubt the very best era in music. It was so happy, and it followed the other trends. I have sooo many good memories to go along with all that great music. I mean it was all good. Pop, Rock, Metal, R. and B and there was good country then, and it was the birth of alt.
