When you were little what were some of your favorite cartoons to watch on television.Why was it your favorite cartoon?

I *loved* the gummy bears. I thought it would be so cool to bounce around with their gummy power. *lol*

I also loved the smurfs, but my ultimate favorite as a kid was Tom & Jerry. I think their a bit pre-80s, however.

My favorites to were Tom&Jerry also it liked the Smarfs because they were so small!

My favorite was always Robotech. The reason why it had great music and I loved the Japanese animation . It was like a soap opera cartoon with a story behind it. Rememmber, Robotech rocks!!

Scooby Doo, Captain Caveman, Smoo, and the Smurfs of course. Secret Railroad and Simon for nostalgic purposes :)

Does anyone remember Fang Face? That's one of my all time favourites. It was a bit of a rip off of Scooby Doo, but man it was funny.

Transformers was--and still is--my fave '80s 'toon.

I also liked Thundercats, Gummi Bears, Duck Tales, Tail Spin, Chip N Dale's Rescue Rangers, The Real Ghostbusters, Garfield, The Littles (that goes back to like 1985), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I always watched Saturday morning cartoons on ABC. I still remember the lil clay mation thing of the people singing "After these messages we'll be right back".

I don't remember Bell And Sabation, but I do remember Leo The Lion. It too was a fav of mine. One of my favorite shows on Nickolodeon was "Today's Special" too.

Wasn't Today's Special the show with the manichan(sp?) and Muffy the mouse?When the store closed the manichan wich was a guy came to life?I used to watch that show all the time too.My brother and I would never miss it.

I could probably post a list a mile long on this one... what cartoon did I NOT like in the 80's :) Some of my favs though were GI Joe, Transformers, Silverhawks, MASK, Thundercats, Voltron (the lions), He-Man, Go-Bots, Inspector Gadget... but of course, wasn't the king of all cartoons the Pac Man cartoon that ran for awhile!!! I don't recall the exact title of it, but I LOVED it... man, I would LOVE to get some episodes of it on video!

Battle of the Planets (okay, technically a 70's but Jason still was cool)

Voltron (Yum... Sweynn! Lance was also cool.)

Dungeons & Dragons (Shelia was neat, and I never appreciated Hank until three years ago)

Biscuits!!! (no one remembers Biscuits...)

Barbie (okay, there were only like two but hey ::shrug::)

Beverly Hill Teens (I want Radley! Jett was cool!)

Kidd Video (Ash was great, except those goofy rhymes)

Anyhow, someone asked if they were the only G-Force lover, and I say you nay!

G-force was actually titled Battle of The Planets. they ran from the late 70's to the mid 80's (in reruns then), and then were reintroed in teh 90's as G-Force. They were then reintroed in the 90's (again) as Eagle Riders.

It was originally a Japanese Cartoon labelled Gatchaman, which was also reintroduced as Gatchaman in the 90's I believe.

Now, if anyone has any episodes of ANY of the G-Force (or other titles in the wide series)
Or any Jem! I'd love to communicate about purchasing copies or originals. I've been looking for anything G-Force a long time, and Jem.... well, I accidentally taped X-Files over my roomie's ENTIRE collection, and want to try to replace it.

I sorta paid attention to most of the Saturday morning line-up while I was in the kitchen cooking breakfast for everyone. I actually really liked the Smurfs for a while, and I can remember watching the Snorks, Scooby Doo and Jem, too.

My favorite was Star Blazers. I don't remember which years we got to see which seasons, but I know I used to watch it after school (in the early 80's) and my sister hated it!

MysteryWoman, I know what you mean about Star Blazers being a very individual taste ;) My husband, even though he loved G-Force, hates it. He actually falls asleep whenever I watch my DVDs. The first season, "The Quest for Iscandar," is all out now, 6 volumes. "Iscandar" was the only series released in the US in English dub in the late 70s/ early 80s.

They've just started on releasing the DVDs from "The Comet Empire," the second series, which I have never seen. I've been shopping at Anime Corner Store (http://www.animecornerstore.com/starblazers.html), they are cheaper than Amazon and almost always have them in stock.

I only have the first 3 volumes of Quest for Iscandar... I have some catching up to do, LOL. I wonder whether they got the original English cast to dub The Comet Empire... I'd heard that they were willing.

I was obsessed with Derek Wildstar when I was a little kid, and I wanted to *be* Nova. Heh. It's nice that I still liked the show after not having seen it for 20 years. That doesn't always happen!

LOL, Mary I am still obsessed with cartoons, though some run to the more adult Japanamation and Manga stuff.

Heck, if you name a cartoon from the 80's, and I watched it (How could I forget Mr. T?) I can probably still name the entire lineup, right down to any last names that were given in the shows.

LOL, I still write stories with the characters, too, so can give you all kinds of complex histories, birthdays, and other stuff that were never actually released. (If something was released I tried not to change it).

On a related note to Star Blazers, does anyone remember Force Five? It used to come on before Star Blazers on channel 25 in Boston. What made Force Five unique was that it showed five different anime cartoons (the giant-robot types), one for each day of the week. I personally preferred the ones on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.

Alas, because of my imperfect memory, I can only remember the one on Tuesday (Star Vengers, I think)? Anyone care to jog my memory on the others? Please? :confused:

Growing up mostly overseas (Air Force brat), our TV programming was mostly from the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service. They aired the same stuff they did back in the States, just a little later than normal. I recall on Saturday mornings they would have Gaiking or Starblazers. The Filipino TV stations in Manila would show Voltes V, Mazinga Z (Tranzor Z in the U.S.), Daimos, Battle of the Planets, and UFO Grandizer, among others. Around 1981 the Marcos government pulled all anime from the air claiming they were too violent for kids.

After returning here to the States in 1983, I quickly became wrapped up in watching Transformers, Thundercats, G.I. Joe (the early two seasons), Danger Mouse and, my favorite still to this day, Robotech.

I loved both G-force and Battle of the planets, but I watched Battle of the Planets first, and I am loyal to that version.

My other favorite cartoons are mainly from the 70's. So I guess I shouldn't list them here....:rolleyes:

Kissyfur was the greatest 80's cartoon. It didn't last more than two or three seasons because it had no gratuitious violence or exploding body parts. I really enjoyed the show. It came on either just before or just after the Smurfs, so I learned to love the Smurfs as well.

Although not strictly 80's and not strictly a "cartoon", Davey and Goliath still brings a smile to my face, particularly when I imitate Goliath saying, "DAAAAAAVVVVVYYYYYYYYY"!:D

Hello! Well, I was just a kid in the 80s, and most of my memories of the time was related to the cartoons. I really loved Inspector Gadget, Jem and the Holograms, Popples, the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Pound Puppies, Rose Petal, the Get Along Gang, Lady Lovely Locks, Ghostbusters, Rainbow Brite, and, of course, the Disney movies of the time. I also really loved just about all of Jim Henson’s work as well as the Canadian Muppet-like show, Today’s Special. I think that the 80s was a golden time for animation and family shows, and I think it’s a shame that most of them are all but forgotten, and definitely not in wide distribution, if they’re still out there at all. I really do wish there could be a station to air all those wonderful shows we cherished as children! Michelle

Loved Captain Caveman,but my real fave was Dangermouse. Absolutely hated Thundercats, and tho it's not really a cartoon am really attatched to Bagpuss(which I can now see on Sky!)

Most definately, it was star blazers. downloaded alot of the episodes online, and stored them! Very cool !! I grew every saturday looking for reruns and new episodes! Man thats some memories there! :thumb:

As I've said before, Transformers (Generation 1) is my favorite '80s cartoon. But I've watched other '80s animated series: GI Joe, MASK (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand), Masters of the Universe, Voltron (a predecessor to the Power Rangers) and GoBots (a Transformers rival until 1991, when Hasbro acquired Tonka).
