I don't recall the exact title of it, but I LOVED it... man, I would LOVE to get some episodes of it on video! battle angel alita 1-23-02, 09:53 PM The Smufs, The Wuzzels, Rainbow Bright, Strawberry Short Cake, The Biskitts and The Ewoks Mary 1-24-02, 07:49 AM Originally posted by 80s hair was I the only one into G-Force? I loved that show!! My husband was crazy about G-Force. I've never seen it! One of my hobbies is 80s cartoons. I know... insanity. I'm not very interested in collecting "homemade" dubs of videos, since the quality is usually so bad, but I do collect theme songs & digitized video clips. :) My favorites: (maybe touching a little of the 70s and the early 90s, please forgive!) Wildfire (http://wildfirecartoon.tvheaven.com) Star Blazers - Now out on DVD! Happy, happy! Dungeons & Dragons JEM Pandamonium Transformers Blackstar Kidd Video Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers DuckTales (premiered in 1987) Gummi Bears Spider Man and His Amazing Friends Laff-A-Lympics Superfriends Thundercats - another one my husband was obsessed with and I just enjoy. (is there an "Anxiously Waiting" smiley? lol) DanAria 1-24-02, 10:20 PM Man all I did was watch cartoons.Iwas quite young.Lets see oh about 4.Although i wacthed other stuff.:D :hammer: oouga 1-30-02, 06:57 PM Hmmm... maybe I'm a bit late to be answering, always was a bit late for things, but here are my favorite cartoons of the 80's! Battle of the Planets (okay, technically a 70's but Jason still was cool) Voltron (Yum... Sweynn! Lance was also cool.) Dungeons & Dragons (Shelia was neat, and I never appreciated Hank until three years ago) Biscuits!!! (no one remembers Biscuits...) Barbie (okay, there were only like two but hey ::shrug::) Beverly Hill Teens (I want Radley! Jett was cool!) Kidd Video (Ash was great, except those goofy rhymes) Voltron (Cars) Tranzor-Z (still have some old episodes on tape) He Man (Yum... Adam) Strawberry Shortcake (I can still anme them all) GI Joe (Man, gotta love Shipwreck!) Jem (though I didn't start watching it until five years ago) And of course, there's those traditional WB cartoons that every kid watches. But don't give me Bugs, I don't particularly like him. I'll take Taz any day. I forgot the Care Bears, how could I? ***************************** Anyhow, someone asked if they were the only G-Force lover, and I say you nay! G-force was actually titled Battle of The Planets. they ran from the late 70's to the mid 80's (in reruns then), and then were reintroed in teh 90's as G-Force. They were then reintroed in the 90's (again) as Eagle Riders. It was originally a Japanese Cartoon labelled Gatchaman, which was also reintroduced as Gatchaman in the 90's I believe. Now, if anyone has any episodes of ANY of the G-Force (or other titles in the wide series) Or any Jem! I'd love to communicate about purchasing copies or originals. I've been looking for anything G-Force a long time, and Jem.... well, I accidentally taped X-Files over my roomie's ENTIRE collection, and want to try to replace it. As for Biskitts, do you recall the episode with the kittens? They were Whiskers. ****************************** MARY: i remember what I wanted to say, now. Did you ever watch the Original Captain Planet? ((Not the reintro'd one)). Yes, I liked Pirate of Dark Waters, too. Sigh. They don't hav very many good cartoons out anymore, that aren't re-runs, re-intro's, or re-makes. And the Smiling you want may look like this: :uhoh: Crysty fiya kraka 1-30-02, 08:08 PM Scooby Doo Smurfs Inspector Gadget (go go gadet arms-------------------+) Snorks Shirt Tales Jem Mystery Woman 1-30-02, 08:19 PM I sorta paid attention to most of the Saturday morning line-up while I was in the kitchen cooking breakfast for everyone. I actually really liked the Smurfs for a while, and I can remember watching the Snorks, Scooby Doo and Jem, too. My favorite was Star Blazers. I don't remember which years we got to see which seasons, but I know I used to watch it after school (in the early 80's) and my sister hated it! geminiduran 1-30-02, 11:48 PM my faves are Voltron {lion} Transformers, ThunderCats, He Man, Hulk Hogan Rock and Rasslin, RoboTech, Mr T Mary 1-31-02, 06:48 AM Hehe Crysty. I didn't realize we were almost equally nuts about cartoons. I did watch the original Captain Planet and the Planeteers. I get the theme song stuck in my head now and then. Captain Planet.... He's a hero...... gets pollution down to zero?! Originally posted by oouga And the Smiling you want may look like this: :uhoh: That's perfect!! I feel like I should maybe start another thread on Star Blazers, but for now I'll put it here... MysteryWoman, I know what you mean about Star Blazers being a very individual taste ;) My husband, even though he loved G-Force, hates it. He actually falls asleep whenever I watch my DVDs. The first season, "The Quest for Iscandar," is all out now, 6 volumes. "Iscandar" was the only series released in the US in English dub in the late 70s/ early 80s. They've just started on releasing the DVDs from "The Comet Empire," the second series, which I have never seen. I've been shopping at Anime Corner Store (http://www.animecornerstore.com/starblazers.html), they are cheaper than Amazon and almost always have them in stock. I only have the first 3 volumes of Quest for Iscandar... I have some catching up to do, LOL. I wonder whether they got the original English cast to dub The Comet Empire... I'd heard that they were willing. I was obsessed with Derek Wildstar when I was a little kid, and I wanted to *be* Nova. Heh. It's nice that I still liked the show after not having seen it for 20 years. That doesn't always happen! oouga 1-31-02, 04:35 PM LOL, Mary I am still obsessed with cartoons, though some run to the more adult Japanamation and Manga stuff. Heck, if you name a cartoon from the 80's, and I watched it (How could I forget Mr. T?) I can probably still name the entire lineup, right down to any last names that were given in the shows. LOL, I still write stories with the characters, too, so can give you all kinds of complex histories, birthdays, and other stuff that were never actually released. (If something was released I tried not to change it). Crysty Johnny Z 1-31-02, 07:41 PM On a related note to Star Blazers, does anyone remember Force Five? It used to come on before Star Blazers on channel 25 in Boston. What made Force Five unique was that it showed five different anime cartoons (the giant-robot types), one for each day of the week. I personally preferred the ones on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. Alas, because of my imperfect memory, I can only remember the one on Tuesday (Star Vengers, I think)? Anyone care to jog my memory on the others? Please? mabas9395 2-01-02, 05:44 PM Here you go JohnnyZ, I got this from the yesterdayland.com website. "Force Five was not a single television show, but a syndicated series that showcased five different anime programs once a week, dubbed into English for an American audience. The compilation was mainly shown in New England in the early 1980's, with Danguard Ace airing on Mondays, Starvengers on Tuesdays, Spaceketeers on Wednesdays, Grandizer on Thursdays and Gaiking on Fridays." Johnny Z 2-02-02, 12:21 AM Ah, yes. Glad to see that my memory is only 80% shot, not 100% gone. :ego: Thanks! Now, off to see the anime freaks I know and see if they've ever heard of those cartoons before.... jdasilva 2-05-02, 09:59 AM Growing up mostly overseas (Air Force brat), our TV programming was mostly from the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service. They aired the same stuff they did back in the States, just a little later than normal. I recall on Saturday mornings they would have Gaiking or Starblazers. The Filipino TV stations in Manila would show Voltes V, Mazinga Z (Tranzor Z in the U.S.), Daimos, Battle of the Planets, and UFO Grandizer, among others. Around 1981 the Marcos government pulled all anime from the air claiming they were too violent for kids. After returning here to the States in 1983, I quickly became wrapped up in watching Transformers, Thundercats, G.I. Joe (the early two seasons), Danger Mouse and, my favorite still to this day, Robotech. krikkitt 2-05-02, 02:04 PM I loved both G-force and Battle of the planets, but I watched Battle of the Planets first, and I am loyal to that version. My other favorite cartoons are mainly from the 70's. So I guess I shouldn't list them here.... space-invader 2-06-02, 08:44 PM yeah g-force was good...havent seen it in so many years speed racer is my fav (great japanese cartoon from 60's) when did the simpsons start? was it in the late 80's on the tracy ullman show? krikkitt 2-07-02, 07:31 AM I looks like the Simpsons started in 1987 on Tracey Ullman's show. http://www.snpp.com/guides/tracey.ullman.html Roemello 2-09-02, 01:44 AM My limited memory (and reading some previous posts  ) recall a few favorites being.... Snorks Smurfs Inhumanoids Ghostbusters (the fake one with the two guys and a monkey...man that don't sound right....lol) Sectaurs Pac-Man Inspector Gadget Denver, the Last Dinosaur Dino-Riders Dinosaucers (seeing a pattern here? ) ok...that's enough...you get the picture :p purrsyn9 2-23-02, 06:38 PM Kissyfur was the greatest 80's cartoon. It didn't last more than two or three seasons because it had no gratuitious violence or exploding body parts. I really enjoyed the show. It came on either just before or just after the Smurfs, so I learned to love the Smurfs as well. Although not strictly 80's and not strictly a "cartoon", Davey and Goliath still brings a smile to my face, particularly when I imitate Goliath saying, "DAAAAAAVVVVVYYYYYYYYY"!:D Mary 2-25-02, 12:05 PM Originally posted by purrsyn9 Kissyfur was the greatest 80's cartoon. Well, I was just a kid in the 80s, and most of my memories of the time was related to the cartoons. I really loved Inspector Gadget, Jem and the Holograms, Popples, the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Pound Puppies, Rose Petal, the Get Along Gang, Lady Lovely Locks, Ghostbusters, Rainbow Brite, and, of course, the Disney movies of the time. I also really loved just about all of Jim Henson’s work as well as the Canadian Muppet-like show, Today’s Special. I think that the 80s was a golden time for animation and family shows, and I think it’s a shame that most of them are all but forgotten, and definitely not in wide distribution, if they’re still out there at all. I really do wish there could be a station to air all those wonderful shows we cherished as children! Michelle tracyscotch 3-07-02, 05:02 PM Loved Captain Caveman, but my real fave was Dangermouse. Absolutely hated Thundercats, and tho it's not really a cartoon am really attatched to Bagpuss(which I can now see on Sky!) Darkhaven 3-01-05, 10:55 PM Good sweet lord, my favorite cartoons?!? Top five: Thundercats (I have all six gigs worth!), Robotech, Dungeons and Dragons, Galaxy High (anyone have these?), and The Real Ghostbusters.
