View Full Version : Atari 2600 -vs- Colecovision -vs- Intellivision -vs- Vectrex
Which one was your favorite?
I was a die hard Atari 2600 fanatic. I remember one morning
before school, I decided to play a quick game. Well, I stayed on
it from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm! It turned over Pacman for the first
time!
Not to mention, the ratio of 2600 users to the other brands on
my block was like 10 - 1.
You know out of all the games I miss the most is ..............
Combat??!!!
Sad but true. The same free game that came with the system
that you couldn't give away, is the one I wouldn't mine playing.
Q Bert used to piss me off. Always going the direction I didn't tell it to go. (What was that thing supposed to be anyway?)
Roemello 5-17-02, 10:28 PM The only one I've played and owned was 2600, so I'd have to go with that. I've heard Intellivision was a great system too though...probably should grab an emulator and give it a go :p
I still have my 7800 wrapped up nice so it don't collect dust along with over 50 games stashed away....can't give up that lil gem :D
I forget what happened to the 2600...ah the memories...playing on our little 13 inch TV after mother said hells no to hooking it up to the living room 20... I've mentioned fave games in at least 3 other threads, so I'll stop my reminice here...:p
Oh, and I hear ya about Q*bert...that thing had some flipped out play control :wacky:
80sSmurf 5-18-02, 04:37 AM Of the sytems mentioned only Atari made it to the european market AFAIK .... I'd have to say Atari then :)

Well, Intellivision and Vectrex were actually sold in Germany.
Boy, when my parents gave me my 2600 as my christmas present, I nearly went totally rad with joy...man, the Atari!!! :D
Of course, my parents also forbid me to connect the console to their 67cm-colour TV, so I had to play the games on my small 31cm-b/w TV. Dang. For playing Space Invaders, the small tube was okay, but later on with games like Defender, I really had longed for a colour TV set (when I finally got it, the Atari was almost forgotten again). So I took the console to a friend who owned the old colour TV set of his folks until my parents didn't allowed me to take it out with me anymore, since I've overstretched the parental set curfew too many times... ;)
Oh...back on topic. :D
Since I've only owned the 2600 (SNES came in the 90s), it was my favourite console. I'd liked to own the other consoles too, but my parents didn't backed up my financial strategies to buy one of them. I still have it stashed somewhere...
Hey Roemello,
I was banned from the living room television also! I was stuck with the Samsung Twelve Inch B&W!!! Hey!!! How many
AC adaptors you burned up?? I figured I was going thru one
each month.
Atari 2600 all the way!:D I only played the Intellivision a couple of times. I played the Atari quite a bit. The games rock! As for Q*Bert, you have to position(and play it) the joystick like a baseball diamond in order to get him to move in the right direction. This is different than about every other game where you hold the joystick in a square position.

We (me and my sister) weren't too bad as far as that goes that I can remember....we were usually more interested in being out with friends having fun than in front of the tube :) I think maybe 1 or 2 at most. The controllers wore out pretty easy too :p
As for funky games while I'm at it...ever try the IMAGIC games with the odd cartridge shape? Those were all great original pieces :D
Said it before and I will say it again. Intellivision ruled! That system just had it all. Great graphics (for the time), great gameplay and it even talked to you. :)

Imagic had some pretty cool games. My favorites were Atlantis and No Escape. Demon Attack and Cosmic Ark were also pretty cool games:thumb:
I remember those cart's. Weren't they colored also? I thought I remembered one being silver.
Roemello 5-21-02, 11:33 PM All silver :) I actually went and dug mine up  I got Fathom, Moonsweeper, Cosmic Ark, Atlantis and my personal fave....Dragonfire :D All cool games though :verycool:
Yeah! I remember Dragonfire! That was a cool game.
My favorite was the Atari 2600 and my all time favorite 2600 game would have to be Pitfall!!! I know they made this for the PC but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet...maybe soon.
gfschn01 5-23-02, 09:20 AM As a game fanatic, I would have to say the Atari 2600. Granted the others had better graphics, but the Atari had the largest library of games. I currently own all of the systems, except for the Vectrex. That one came a little to late for me. I will be submitting some pics of my game room that I created. It has 5 TV's with attached systems, and a couple of stand-up arcades. God, spent a lot of money back then and even more now. Mom always used to say "One of these day's you're gonna wish that you hadn't spent all of that money on games" Funny . . .
Dude111 11-06-07, 09:25 PM Atari 2600/7800 are very good consoles (Dunno what the difference is between the two)
I loved almost every cartridge i played!!!!!!
Colecovision is another favourite of mine :)
