How do I change this?

A little rectangular box appears and I need to type in my password everytime before anything begins on my computer. I want to be able to turn the power on and everything starts up without typing in the pw. :)

HELP! :D

The rectangular box is called a dialog box.

Right click on Network Neighborhood, then Properties. You will see a box with your modem, TCP/IP, and probably other things.

This is either the Windows Family Logon or Client for Microsoft Networks. I think it is the family logon. Not 100% positive on that, but I'm pretty sure.

Just click on it, then click remove below the box.

That should take care of it.

I did what you said, Aaron. It worked but now I get the big connect box. It displays the number my comp. dials. My user name and PW. It has properties, connect and work offline on the bottom of the box.

I still have to type in my PW. I tried to click the box that says save password but it is not highlighted?

Now it seems like you are referring to something else. I thought your original message was referring to your dial up networking, but you said you have to enter a password before anything starts up on your computer, which to me means the initial login box asking for your name and password.

Are you referring to your internet account?

Two totally different things.

If you mean the password box for your dial up internet, I have seen that happen before too. Mostly under Windows 95, but sometimes under 98 as well. I never did find a good solutions for that. Sometimes deleting the icon out of the networking box (My Computer -> Dial Up Networking, delete icon) then adding a new connection will fix it, but not always.

It's annoying as hell and the only real solution I have found is to reinstall Windows. Not a good solution, but sometimes thats what I had to do.

I would try deleting the icon and making a new one first.

The first box I told you about is gone. I did what you said and it does not come up. NOW.....after everything is ready to go a box appears and I have to type my PW before I get connected to the internet. I get a 'connect to..' box. That has username , password, phone number and connect, properties, cancel, at the bottom of the box.

I want to get rid of that or be able to check the save password and connect automatically boxes. These boxes are not highlighted so i cannot check them.

Sorry I may sound confusing, Aaron. It is hard to describe here. :)

Do you have "Client for Microsoft Networks" showing in the Network control panel? It's been a while since I used dial-up, but I am pretty sure that it is the client needed to save your password.

I got this info from Microsoft's web site. Maybe it will help.

Install the client for Microsoft networks or the client for NetWare networks in Network properties. To install one of these clients:

Click Start , point to Settings , click Control Panel , and then double-click Network .

Click Add , click Client , and then click Add .

In the Manufacturers box, click Microsoft .

In the Network Clients box, click either Client for Microsoft Networks or Client for NetWare Networks , and then click OK .

Click OK .

If you are prompted to restart your computer, do so.

I'm still on dial-up ... also I'm using a danish version of Win ME.

TC look at your properties for your current network connection, under safety (at least that's what it's named in my version), just tick of the box next to "Automatic log on" :)

Hmmm now I'm getting confused. The first box TC spoke of was the initial log on before the computer was booted up. You need to move the Windows Family Logon to get rid of that. I think thats what it was. Then she spoke of the internet connect box, then Shakey replied about adding the Windows logon. I thought that is what TC wanted to get rid of?

Hmmm. Maybe I am confused. I thought it was not saving her password for dialing onto the Internet? TC?

That's what I thought she meant with the first message, but I reread it and figured she was referring to the windows family logon (or whatever its called) since she said that she has to type in a password before everything loads on her computer, but by the next message when she said that windows wasn't saving her password to log on to the internet, then I figured it was the dial up networking.

Which is it TC?

I guess both me and Shakey are confused. When exactly does this box appear? Is it your internet dialog box or what?

I hope I can explain this ok.. ;)

The first box only had my user name and password. I was able to get rid of that by doing what Aaron said the first time. :)

Now, I don't get that, but I do get the bigger box- as described above. I cannot click on save password. I see it there but it is not highlighted.

I hate waiting to have to type in my PW everytime. I want to be able to push in power button and my connection dials automatically. :)

Ok it sounds to me like you are referring to the internet connection dialog box. I explained how you might go about fixing this already.

Might have to delete and reinstall the icon. I never found a way that works 100% of the time though.

It is definitely annoying...
