How often is it happening? Just because you close something doesn't mean its unloaded. ICQ and yahoo messenger do that.

Does the sound come only after certain events? Closing a window? Clicking ok?

That can help narrow it down.

It is possible that you exit yahoo (or whatever) but the process isn't released by windows. In that case, hit ctrl-alt-del to bring up your task list and make sure whatever it was you were trying to exit is NOT in the list.

Right off hand thats all that comes to mind.

I reread your question. Must have read it wrong. Are you using yahoo messenger or were you looking at the web site when this happened?

Really sounds like an event related sound to me.

I had AIM, Yahoo and the xchange up. It happened once. Than It started happening every 10 seconds! I recorded it but I am unable to post it here.

I closed the Yahoo IM box but I have not exited Yahoo IM. Seems like it has stopped.

Yep. Sounds like it is just a sound event for one of your programs. I hate that! I turn off all sounds on my system. No real reason, they just annoy me.

I know what that is....it happened to me as well and it isn't Yahoo....it's one of those damn ads at the top of the page. It's done with a java applet with a sneezing .au (audio) file in it...

Some time ago I downloaded some gaming software onto my computer and it automatically assigned sound effects to many of my every day Windows functions, which became very annoying after a while. I ended up going into the game software and deleting the offending wave files completely!

Hmmm I didn't hear anything coming here because I almost never have my speakers turned on.

I used to have a bunch of WAV files assigned to events, but I got sick of hearing them all the time.

If I go to a page with background sounds that I can't stand, I either leave or I turn my speakers off. Pisses me off when some idiot has a MIDI going and you can't stop it.

Never seen that one before, Roem. Thanks for clearing it up though. Have I mentioned that I really don't like music coming from my computer (unless I plop in a CD).

Thanks everyone! I thought I was going :goofy: Makes sense now. The funny thing was I was on AIM chatting and I asked the person who I was chatting with if they were doing it? They said , no. THAN at that point the sneezing sounds came more offten. It almost seemed the more I asked him the more I got blasted with sneezes.

You have 3 message progs open at once? lol OK...I have one word for ya...Trillian. Get that prog and stop having 3 message progs open at once. It works with Yahoo, ICQ, AIM, and MSN. Woohoo! :D
