View Full Version : Report On Ace Frehley's Birthday Party!
Man, does the insanity ever stop?
ACE BIRTHDAY BASH NOT A DULL AFFAIR:
Site regular Richard reported in today after just getting back from the Ace Frehley Birthday Bash in Hackensack, New Jersey (The Rothman Center).
It seems the day was a bit of an event - for all the wrong reasons.
Richard reports:
- A limit of 500 guests were on hand, Ace arrived totally 'whacked' out and there was an evacuation of the facility due to a Bomb threat! Police and emergency units were summoned and everyone waited outside while the K9 unit went to work. After about an hour, everyone was permitted back inside.
Not only that, but Richard says he personally witnessed Ace arguing with the promoter over wanting more cash to sign the balance of fan's autographs. He had already signed for about half the fans there.
Additionally, there was supposed to be a Q&A, which only lasted about 10 minutes of Ace bitching about Gene Simmons. Gene's all about money...etc..etc... Ace made it very evident that he's finished with Kiss, and finished with Simmons in particular.
Ace says new solo record later this year...
The promoter came up with a wad of cash and Ace returned to signing autographs for the remaining fans.
Rich says: "Later in the evening, Eric Singer was scheduled to present Ace with a birthday cake. We all waited anxiously with cameras in hand. Imagine our surprise when Singer and Gene Simmons entered the room with a cake!!! Gene said nothing as he walked methodically across the room with the cake, presented it to Frehley who was clearly angry by this time. Simmons left as quietly as he entered and sped away in a black Benz.
After this, Frehley got up and went to a microphone where he announced very simply, "It's amazing what some people will do for money""
It seems the Aerosmtih/Kiss tour that has been rumored for more than 6 months was also back on the agenda, with growing speculation that it will be announced soon.
Cartoon_Chris 4-29-02, 11:56 AM $125 for a "dinner" which turned out to be hot dogs, a small loot bag and a quick autograph ($50 per extra one, and no handshakes allowed!) from a surly, stoned Ace who clearly didn't care about the KISS fans, who get ripped off yet again. KISS really and truly is the real-life Spinal Tap.
KISS and Aerosmith touring together? Oh Jesus, what happened to the "farewell" tour? Now that Ace is no longer involved, I'm praying to all that is holy that they don't slap Ace's makeup & costume on Bruce Kulick. If they are indeed going to tour with Aerosmith, just take Kulick back, remove the makeup, and go out a la "Revenge" era KISS. Anything else would be a sham.
I guess Ace really is as much of a dick as that "KISS & Tell" book made him out to be.
Pagan... you know my neighbor accross the street from me.. Joe. well his Brother, Marty, was doing carpentry work on Ace's new recording studio... evidently, Ace was trying to screw him over by saying that his work was not up to par when in fact when Ace brought in an established carpenter do evaluate the work said that Marty knew what he was doing and that his work was better quality than his own. Before that Ace, fired Marty to have that guy come in and now Ace is trying to get Marty to come back and finished the work. LOL Marty told me he's been ignoring his phone calls... I don't blame him.
Ace is a tool.
idexpectnoless 4-30-02, 04:19 PM I was a huge Kiss fan growing up and have seen them 1/2 dozen times in concert. They do put on the best shows however; they are all about money. As the got older it became more and more so. Gene would sell anything for a buck and Ace and Peter didnt think their share of the revenue was enough(also greedy). To this point I have yet to hear Paul Stanley being involved in any financial issues(although i'm not saying that he hasnt been). Money does strange things to some people, and usually more so to people with little character.
Cartoon_Chris 4-30-02, 04:48 PM Paul has exactly half the clout behind KISS' moves, he could probably stop Gene's dishonest statements and shameless business practises if he really wanted to, which would make him at least an "accomplice", if you will, to the ridiculous stuff that has happened. I do wonder if he's actually stopped Gene from doing anything even dumber than what we've already seen.
Paul is also the master of the spin doctor quote, it seems every time the band does something stupid he tries to justify it with some kind of analogy.
I saw on A&E a Biography of the 1970s They had Gene on there. He was talking about kiss. He stated he didnt want to make a famous BAND he wanted to create a BRAND NAME, like Disney. I swear to god that is what he said.

Well, I saw KISS perform on the American Bandstand Anniversary special on tv friday night. I don't know who they had on drums and guitar, but it was all in makeup. Anyone know who's in the band masquerading as Ace and Peter?
I saw that episode as well, Foxxy.. Peter was replaced a while back by Eric Singer.. remember he finished the tour in Peter's makeup last year... and that was Ace... there's no mistaken that face.
Tina, I actually read someplace that it was Tommy Thaler (sp?) on guitar. Wouldnt suprise me at all!
Really, Jasper? That makes sense, too! ;)
Jerks... that's all I can say about them right now.
Cartoon_Chris 5-06-02, 11:36 PM Tommy Thayer, who you might remember from Black N' Blue.

He also played Ace in a couple of tribute bands.
VioletFoxx 5-07-02, 11:02 AM I remember Tommy Thayer. That makes sense. I knew it couldn't be Ace. He looked too young. Thanks for the info guys. :)
If you want to see a pic of Tommy Thayer in Ace's makeup and costume, go here: American Bandstand 50th Anniversary Photo Gallery (http://www.allyourtv.com/gallery/moviesandspecials/a/americanbandtsands50th/gallery.html)
It's so sad.....even the KISS Army is starting to rebel a little. Go to kissonline.com and read the message boards.
Here's a better pic of "Ace".
Cartoon_Chris 5-08-02, 04:01 PM I think Tommy Thayer is in a KISS tribute band right now :tear: Gene & Paul should either allow two new characters created, or just drop the make-up again. This current set-up is worse than "Bewitched" when they replace an actor and pretend everything is just like it was (also a good sign the show has Jumped the Shark).
If they tour again I will NOT be in attendance... they should have quit while they were ahead... there's no mystique about them anymore! They have become washed up has-beens. :( It's too bad.. I was a true fan from the day I turned three years old... only to disappoint me before I turn 30. Jerks.
Well, some people are too nastalgic for thier youth (nobody here though, LOL!) and will shell out lots of cash for "new" kiss merchendise. I was at a store in st louis this week that had a lot of old, original KISS posters and merchendise. It was priced reasonably, but I just would not buy it, even though they would not get any of the cash, it is just the principal of the thing.
If they brought Bruce back, and toured like they did for REVENGE, I would see them again. But not another MAKEUP tour.
Same here, Jasper.. I feel the same way
Ummm Kulick in Ace makeup ???
ALREADY HAPPENED
for those of you who missed the American Bandstand anniversary or whatever show a few weeks ago.. KISS played... that wasnt Ace at all... had to be Kulick.. was tall and gangly..
Keep him in Union, take the makeup off and get his older brother Bob in the band if they do anything.. at least he has the "Ace" sound.. and who cares nowadays if the guys bald.
Hey Creeps... it wasn't Kulick.. it WAS in fact Tommy Thayer.. read it on several different sites.. one notable site, Kissaylum.com
yah .. I was just making a guess from seeing it on TV...
if they want to continue making albums, FINE... get Bob Kulick on guitar and Eric Singer on drums..
other than that.. please throw in the towel. I've beena fan practically since birth, and would rather see them have bowed out with SOME dignity than to keep on putting up the facade.
the farewell tour was horrible.
reunion tour = great
now = pathetic
