View Full Version : The Exorcist 2000
Has anyone seen this yet? I still can't watch this movie because Linda Blair scared me so bad when I was 11. I've seen the preview of the new scene on the stairs and that looks freaky!
So what are the reviews? Some tv show asked the next generation if they were scared of green pea soup like their parents were? How insulting.

ReagansRenegade 10-23-00, 06:53 AM It'd like to see today's tot, who think Scream is scary, come walking (probably before the movie is half-way through) out the theatre after seeing the Exorcist. Listen- i can barely watch this one. It doesnt matter if the lights are on, it's 2 oclock on a Sunday afternoon or im surrounded by a hundred latin-speaking bishops. In fact it would just be that much more unbearable.
You know i dont think they could make a movie scarier then this one. Think about it:
1. It was made in the 70s... for the love of GOD the seventies!
2. They used all REAL pyschical props and stuff, no high brow computor generated Microsoft Monsters
3. Its about exorcism
4. It has the Catholic Church
5. It has priests (no way they will put a bad-ass catholic priest in Scream. it wouldnt even make sense)
6. Linda Blair does something with a crucifix that no pimply NSYNC fan of today could view impassively, far from it. They couldnt even laugh like they do at the movie gore they peddle to teenagers today, and most likely be incapable of faking laughter
7. Did i mention it was made in the 1970s? That decade WAS a horror movie.
Case closed. Thank you Zel for bringing this to my attention.
LOL on point 7!! The polyester bell bottoms alone was good for a sequel or two http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

morningmyst 11-01-00, 05:53 PM Ok......review time. I managed to sit through the movie. It was, to say the least, pretty darn FREAKY!!! The stairs scene was....unexplainable. I couldn't watch it as a kid. So, this was my first time to see it. I'd heard all about it from my husband and friends. It still didn't prepare me for what I saw! There were a few things that I didn't quite understand. So, now I'm going to have to read the book...which, I've been told is even scarier than the movie.
Anyways, if you get the chance to see it, I would recommend it. Just, don't come crying to me when your bed starts to shake! LOL

ReagansRenegade 11-01-00, 06:55 PM Just as a note- do not view Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It is neither fun, exciting or good. Its just wrong.
Sal Collaziano 11-02-00, 01:33 AM The movie is cool on TV. Unfortunatly, it gets laughed out of the theater in the year 2000. Zel, you'll be afraid of a few scenes I'm sure! There are a couple of wierd ones. Unfortunatly, the laughter aggrivated me so I left early. The movie is the S-L-O-W-E-S-T starting movie I have EVER and will EVER see/seen. But, overall it's a good movie...

morningmyst 11-02-00, 03:24 AM Lucky for us, the theater wasn't crowded, and no one laughed...well, there was the nervous giggle when everyone JUMPED when a phone rang! That was pretty funny! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

I just wanted to say that when I saw this movie in the fall of 2000, people were laughing their heads off. Well mainly the teenagers were laughing. They didn't find the movie scary at all, they just kept laughing and laughing at what I am guessing where the special effects. I wasn't even alive when Exorcist came out, but I thought the film was damn scary when I used to watch it in the '80s. My feeling is that if these kids were not watching the movie with their friends, they wouldn't feel the need to laugh out loud the way they did.
I never allowed my kids to watch it because it was just to freaky. But they rented Scary Movie 2.. and in the beginning they redone the scene where she throws up that green goo. Well in this movie (Scary Movie 2 ) all of them started throwing up  It was funny. The kids didn't understand it since they never watched the original. Well the next day I rented it for them to see. They were shocked
It is a scary movie one of the best I think.
I actually still find the "Exorcist" scary and disturbing! I didn't see the re-release in the theaters, but I own the DVD and I really liked the additional footage and the quality of the film! :thumb: I think this is one of the scariest films out there!
I saw this movie! It freaked me out - - AGAIN!!! I think that this is the scariest movie, ever! I just love it. I get the creeps whenever someone talks in those 'demon voices', tho'. The book is actually even better than the movie! :)

Same here. I never saw it in the theater, but do own "The Version You've Never Seen" on VHS for now (till I get my DVD player next month. :D ) It is one of the all time greatest horror movies. It seemed like lots of great scary movies were made in the '70's up through the early 80's.
ImSoooSure 4-19-02, 12:13 AM For a second there I thought Zel was back. I miss her!
This movie definately scared me. I didn't see it until I was maybe 20 or so. I'll have to get the DVD. This is one scary movie I don't own yet.

There was a movie starring Peter Sellers and David Niven called "Murder by death". A comedy horror where all the characters get killed off one by one. I thought it was hilarious, but i can always remember my uncle telling me that when he originally went to see it, every one in the theatre thought it was a real creepy horror! Apparently it was deliberately made that way.
I know this is not the case with The Exorcist, but I have to say, I agree with what Sal said, that the movie was very slow moving at the beginning. I was quite bored with this movie. There were only small parts of the movie that actually had any scary stuff in it. The rest of it was a real yawner.
