Do you do everything your doctor tells you to?

I barely ever do, becuse I think everytime they perscribe a drug, they're not doing it for you, they're doing it for more money. And that goes for apointments, too, I only go when I am injured or whatever.

Sometimes, unfortunately you have to go. I definately don't just trust what they say though. It's all a guessing game with a lot of it.

Having the choice to go to the doctors sometimes is not an option. When you collapse at work, most of the time they are going to get you to the hospital. What I can not stand is when I go to the doctor because of difficulty breathing and he prescribes a medication for a head cold, I think it is worthless.

It just all depends on how much faith I have in the doctor.

I never really had to think about that....don't get sick and never been too seriously injured **knock on wood**, so my visits to a doctor have been as rare as getting struck by lightening over the years :p

I said, "yes, they know what's best".

I'm not a freak about doctors. I'm not crazy about going to them either, but when something is wrong with my body, I seek someone who knows what's up. I can tell you anything you want to know about the education biz, but nothing about the medical biz. I would always seek an expert opinion. I will grant that there are doctors that know nothing about what they are supposed to be doing, but some are very knowledgeable and these are the people that we should trust.

Trust your own instinct. If you think your doctor's a quack, go to someone else. :D

sometimes....tho i have worked closely with doctors for a number of years and know that a lot of the time they're just guessing (somewhat informed guess mind you)

sometimes spacey knows better ;)

I pretty much always do as I'm instructed by my doctor. If I make an appointment to see a doctor, you can bet that I'm really sick or something is indeed wrong, as otherwise I wouldn't be going! So, if the doctor tells me to do or not to do something or gives me a prescription medication, I will be following the advice! :)

Sometimes, it depends on the severity of the situation. :) But I usually do as I'm told by doctors. :)

It all depends on the situation.

I really hate going to doctors. I have to go today and I am dreading it. I can't stand waiting for hours and hours for bad news. Well I hope it wont be bad news

Cross your fingers for me you guys.

In agreement completely.

I definitely listen to what they have to say, but I don't give doctors' opinions the weight of minor deities', as some of my relatives do. I guess it depends on how important the medical problem is. When I started taking a medication that goes poorly with caffeine, I dropped caffeine at my dr.'s suggestion, and stuck with it, even though it was hell. (gulping decaf right now) I did not, however, go on a starvation diet to lose the 20 pounds my other dr. says I **must** lose. (Skinny doctors suck!)

For me it depends on the seriousness of what I'm in for. I try to follow their instructions most of the time, but I use my judgement too. But I don't go to see the doctor unless absolutely necessary. I hate going. My sister is a nurse practitioner and I always try to get her to diagnose me over the phone instead.

I voted for "sometimes". I have a huge fear of doctors. :o Seriously...I also have a fear of needles and hospitals. :vibrator: It really depends on the doctor and how long I've known them.

I've only been to a hospital once for my own reason...and that was when I was five. I got sick a bunch in kindergarden with Chicken Pox and my first REALLY REALLY bad flu. And everytime my brother went (twice) something was done wrong, too much novicane, a broken needle. My parents were never big on taking us, only when we're injured, but my mom is freaking out about everything now, the lamest things I get dragged to the doctors for. And it's only her, cuz of an operation a few years ago. IF I have to go to the doctors, I demand a woman doc, cuz I don't want some weird old guy askin me stuff and touchin me.

I think the smart money is on "sometimes", with a caviat.
I work with alot of doctors, and doctors are people like everyone else: there are good ones, medeocre ones, and bad ones. If people did their homework and found a doctor they could trust BEFORE they needed one, this problem would be alleviated for the most part.
Also, it is ok to trust a doctor. They are highly trained and (in my experiece, more often than not) caring people who take an oath to do what is best for you. They cannot afford to be reckless in this age of spurious litigation. Nor do they need to swindle you to make a comfortable living (if they are worth their salt). However, they are not God. They will be wrong now & again, so it is perfectly ok to ask questions, disagree, even get a second opinion. Healthcare is like any other product/service, you can get what you need for a reasonable price if you are on the ball.

Depends really, but you know , usually they go " don't do that it's bad for your health, don't do that you'll hurt yourself ! " If you listen to them you'd be lying on the couch all day long !!!! Usually I go to have a medical form to say I can go to the gym ( so, every year ! ) And usually they say " you're fine, that's 20 $ thnx you ! ". I guess one of the great thing about being young is how well you recover, most of the time I recover 100 % in a night or 2 days top for a major injury ! My immunitary system is smokin' and I just ..... tend to think they underestimate most people's body's strenght ! But then, usually you get more often hurt, standing than when ya actually fall ( that's the case for me ) . But heck after I got a elbow in the kisser during a concert I decided to go to the doctor ( dentist ) and followed what he told me ( waited 2 weeks before going tho' ) . So really, it depends !
